  • Patent number: 4555256
Abstract: In the production of gaseous oxygen, a process and apparatus is used which requires low temperature rectification of air. The air is compressed, purified and cooled in a first heat exchanger while a second gas stream is compressed to elevated pressure, and is cooled in a second heat exchanger. Liquid oxygen removed from rectification is pressurized to a desired pressure and is evaporated and heated in heat exchange with the compressed gas stream.

  • Patent number: 4553990
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for separating gaseous and liquid components of a foamy gas liquid mixture, into which device a feed line for the gas liquid mixture and a withdrawal line terminate, and into whose top portion there is arranged a turbine. In order to obtain a complete and quick separation of the gas and liquid components of the foamy gas liquid mixture, it is suggested that the container part, below the turbine is a centrifugal separator into which the feed line terminates as a tangential inlet (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4551107
Abstract: A water ski vest is formed of EVA cross-linked polyethylene. The vest fits around the torso or over the shoulders of the wearer and is held in place by belts which extend around the vest. The belts extend through indented loops formed in the polyethylene material to prevent the belts from contacting the wearer's skin. Loops riveted or sewn onto the male ends of the belts extend through the loops in the vest to transmit stress directly to the belts instead of the foam material. The surfaces of the foam material are provided with a fine mesh texturing to give the material a cloth-like feel and appearance. Creasing patterns formed in the shoulder portions and in the back and side portions provide flexibility. The shoulder material is tapered in thickness to reduce bulk and the upper portion of the back is tapered in thickness to minimize catching water in a hard fall. The outer perimeter edges of the vest are rounded to enhance comfort and appearance.

  • Patent number: 4547165
Abstract: A personal flotation apparatus is made of one or more layers of cross-linked polyethylene polymeric foam material. A nylon or polyester cloth preferably having a tight weave is fused to one or both of the inner or outer surfaces. When more than one layer is used the cloth may be fused to interfaces of both layers. Edge portions of the personal flotation apparatus are rounded inward and cloth fused to the outer surface is extended inward around the round edge to abut or overlap and be joined to cloth on an inner surface.

  • Patent number: 4545621
Abstract: Services, such as electricity and water, are supplied through conduits to moving machinery such as a longwall mining machine which moves along a conveyor or other fixed path. A channel having an open mouth which is flexibly sealed is disposed alongside the path and contains supply conduits for the machine. A sleeve projects through the channel seals into the body of the channel and guides the conduits to the machine. A gas may be fed to the machine via the channel and sleeve. As the machine moves the conduits bend over themselves.

  • Patent number: 4544099
Abstract: A valve device to control fluid through a passageway under a pressure head which may vary, has at least one vane which lies in the passageway to restrict the fluid flow. The vane is effectively flexible and resilient to deflect under fluid flow and so increase its restricting effect on increase in the pressure head and decrease its restricting effect on decrease in the pressure head so as to maintain a substantially constant flow output through the passageway. The valve device may be incorporated in a nozzle for insertion as one of a series along the length of an irrigation pipe, and the nozzle may be provided with a pointed head part and an outlet tube or cap.The device also has application in other forms of fluid control.

  • Patent number: 4541380
Abstract: In an electronically controlled fuel injection apparatus which is controlled in accordance with the signal from a sensor for providing a signal concerning the operational condition of the associated engine, there are provided a generator for generating a stand-by signal by which the apparatus is able to continue the control operation thereof without the normal output signal from the sensor and a switching circuit for applying the stand-by signal instead of the signal from the sensor to a control section for electronically controlling the apparatus in response to detecting the occurrence of trouble in the sensor.

  • Patent number: 4527499
Abstract: A mast step is mounted on a traveler having two parallel linear bearings which ride in lateral grooves on a central track. The central track has downward enlarged vertical holes on 2-inch centers which hold detent balls. The detent balls are locked in their upper active position with a contact and lock the traveler in a preselected position. Depressing an operator pedal moves a slider bar within the track to align detent receivers with the openings in the track. As the detent balls drop into the receivers in the slider bar, the platform is released to move toward a new location. When the pedal is released, a spring tends to return the slider bar to misalign the receivers with the track openings. The detent balls are ramped upward out of the receivers into their upper operative position in contact with the downward opening locking recesses in the traveler.

  • Patent number: 4522638
Abstract: A process for regulating the NH.sub.3 content in an organic liquid that acts as a physical scrubbing agent and is used in a procedure for absorbing sour gases from gaseous mixtures. To ensure undisturbed and reliable carrying out of the scrubbing process, an ammonia-precipitating precipitant is added to the scrubbing agent and the precipitate is then separated from the scrubbing agent. Preferred precipitants include sulphuric acid and phosphuric acid. The ammonia salts are effective fertilizers.
