  • Patent number: 4599935
Abstract: A piston for internal combustion engines, which has inclined surface portions in the skirt area to allow formation of hydrodynamic wedges of lubricant, these surface portions being constructed as skirt recesses (13 or 14) which are open either towards the upper or towards the lower end of the piston skirt. The transition zone from these skirt recesses to the bearing surface of the working surface of the piston is constituted by oblique surfaces which are inclined inwardly from the surface of the skirt. The oblique surfaces terminate in a circumferential direction within the bearing surfaces of the piston. The oblique surfaces constitute ramps on which a hydrodynamic wedge of lubricacting oil can form.

  • Patent number: 4595969
Abstract: One end of an elongated flexible strap is connected to a screw base. The strap extends downward through a central opening in a cover and in a reflector. After the screw base is threaded into a socket, a friction ring is pushed upward along the flexible strap, drawing the reflector up and a trim ring tight against the ceiling which surrounds the recessed fixture. The friction ring holds the lamp and reflector upward on the strap, without stretching the strap and without pulling downward on the screw base with a force substantially greater than a weight of the reflector and trim ring. While the friction ring holds the lamp on the strap, a gripper is moved into position beneath the friction ring to permanently support the friction ring. The strap is then clipped below the gripper.

  • Patent number: 4593537
Abstract: Plate freezer apparatus has a plurality of vertically disposed refrigerated plates separated from each other by spacer frames to define a plurality of open topped compartments to receive product to be frozen. The assembly of plates and spacer frames are held together by spring tensioned rods which apply a compressive force to the assembly. Each plate has a number of wedge surfaces and a plate separating device engages the wedge surfaces of an adjacent pair of plates to thereby separate those plates to enable the spacer frame and frozen material therebetween to be withdrawn. The frozen material is removed from the spacer frame which is then re-inserted between the separated plates and the separating device removed before the compartment is refilled with product to be frozen.

  • Patent number: 4592744
Abstract: A self-resheathing safety needle has a case with a small closed end and a large open end and a needle assembly within the case with the needle projecting through the small closed end. A hub is connected to the needle assembly inside the case and a connector on the hub cooperates with a receiver in the small end to hold the needle assembly in the case. A flange on the hub cooperates with an inward projection in the case spaced from the small end to prevent movement of the needle out of the case when the needle is withdrawn from the opening in the small end. The nozzle of a syringe pushed into the hub withdraws the needle when the syringe is withdrawn. A rubber stopper on a vacuum tube withdraws the needle after the rubber stopper turns the flange to release the connector from the receiver.

Abstract: A compact portable grill has upper and lower sections of a base, a grill body and a cover which may also be used as a cooking pot or wok. The cover, grill body, upper section and lower section, are all of equal height. When the cover and upper section are inverted, the grill body fits within the cover, the upper section of the base fits within the grill body and the lower section of the base fits within the upper section of the base in a compact, tight arrangement suitable for shipping or transporting in a short cardboard box. The lower section of the base and a lower portion of the grill body may hold a grate for roasting or grilling. In the former configuration, fuel is added through a sliding door in the upper section of the base. Paper is added and lighted through a door in a lower section of the base to start the briquets. Aligned openings in telescopic joints are held together by eye-bolts.

  • Patent number: 4586389
Abstract: A portable aerosol dust spectrometer has an inlet section with a sampler entry having an entry efficiency for airborne dust approximately to that of the human head during inhalation, a clean-up stage to remove particles above 15 .mu.m and a main collection stage which is a cascade impactor. The cascade impactor classifies particles of dust and collects fractions onto a number of collection surfaces. A pump draws air or gas through the apparatus. The apparatus samples air in a similar way to the human body and yields fractions of dust for further study.

  • Patent number: 4583714
Abstract: A truck mounted hydraulic cable reel apparatus for heavy power cable includes bed frame members supporting a circular turntable. A motor rotates the turntable 45.degree. to either side of a longitudinal center line. Two vertical stanchions are mounted on the turntable. One stanchion supports a tail stock assembly, and a second supports a reel drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a reel drive shaft connected at one end to a hydraulic motor and having a reel drive face plate on the other end. The face plate has lugs which engage lugs on an end of the cable reel spool shaft. The hydraulic motor reversely rotates the cable spool to wind in or pay out power cable. Vertical guide rollers are disposed at either end of the horizontal cable roller. Telescoping outrigger booms are adjustably positioned on either side of the bed frame. Multiple guide rollers on the ends of the booms open and lock closed to capture the power cable and to act as outriggers when laying or retrieving cable.

  • Patent number: 4577748
Abstract: A transfer apparatus has longitudinal, transverse and vertical movements. Transfer bars are mounted on a frame which moves longitudinally as a unit. The bars move transversely on the frame. A drive box mounted on a side of the frame has transverse and longitudinal drive levers. The longitudinal drive lever has a roller which slides in a transverse track in one of the transfer bars to drive the frame forward and rearward. The transverse drive lever is pivotally connected to a link which is pivotally connected to a pivotally mounted crank arm. A roller on one side of the crank arm pivot slides in a longitudinal track in one transfer bar to push that bar in and out. A slideable transverse rod pivotally connected to the crank arm on the other side of the pivot has a roller on a remote end which slides in a longitudinal track in the other of the transfer bars to push that transfer bar in and out.

  • Patent number: 4574764
Abstract: Carburetor air-fuel mixtures are directed to a manifold having a plurality of long, small diameter helical tubes extending upwardly therefrom. An auxiliary air inlet having an auxiliary choke and an auxiliary air throttle supplies air to mixtures entering the tubes in response to engine temperature and carburetor throttle.Heated engine coolant flows upwardly through a jacket enclosing the tubes. An outlet manifold receives air-fuel mixtures vaporized in the tubes and directs them to the engine intake manifold. The carburetor is mounted on a block having an air-fuel passageway extending from a top inlet to a side outlet. The block is mounted atop a block having a passageway having a side inlet which receives vaporized air-fuel mixtures from the tubes to a bottom outlet in communication with the intake manifold.

  • Patent number: 4571228
Abstract: Bicycle chain is made of alternating bushing links and pin links. The bushing links have parallel bushings held in interference fit in bushing plates and extended axially beyond the bushing plates, solid metal rolls with a lubricating plating are held loosely on the bushings, and loosely between the bushing plates. The bushings extend axially outward beyond the bushing plates for substantial distances. Pins extend through the bushings and are fixed in pin plates to form pin links which alternate with the bushing links. The pin plates are held outward from the bushing plates for a substantial amount by the axial bushing extensions to prevent dirt build up. The pin plates, bushing plates and bushings are plated with an anti-corrosion plating. The pins and rolls are plated with a porous metal plating with solid polymeric lubricant held within pores of the plating for lubricating the pin-bushing interior interface and for lubricating the roll-bushing and roll-bushing plate interfaces.

  • Patent number: 4556375
Abstract: A pre-shaped aluminum plate is held against the flat end wall of an inverted mold cavity by vacuum pressure communicated through bore holes in the wall leading to a vacuum chamber in the mold body. A high temperature PTFE gasket shaped to match the plate fits in an annular recess in the wall to provide a seal between the wall and plate. Polyurethane foam expands and hardens in the mold cavity to further press the plate against the wall and to form a foamed plastic water ski having a flush aluminum deck. The mold cavity has a curved side wall to produce a ski having a radiused edge about the deck.
