  • Patent number: 4486368
Abstract: A pre-shaped aluminum plate is held against the flat end wall of an inverted mold cavity by vacuum pressure communicated through bore holes in the wall leading to a vacuum chamber in the mold body. A high temperature PTFE gasket shaped to match the plate fits in an annular recess in the wall to provide a seal between the wall and plate. Polyurethane foam expands and hardens in the mold cavity to further press the plate against the wall and to form a foamed plastic water ski having a flush aluminum deck. The mold cavity has a curved side wall to produce a ski having a radiused edge about the deck.

  • Patent number: 4468795
Abstract: Integrated circuits contained in a rail are passed through cylindrical electrodes. Two electrodes are connected to an oscillator to transmit out of phase fields. A receiving electrode's output has the residual oscillator frequency component removed by a nulling network and summation device, whose output is fed to a band pass amplifier and balanced demodulator, which receives a phase shifted input from the oscillator. Demodulator output components at and above the oscillator frequency are removed by a low pass filter. A demodulator output above the reference voltage triggers a counter.

  • Patent number: 4450703
Abstract: A cold header or a screw machine preforms a rod end blank from rod stock. A female blank has a drilled and tapped rod portion and an undersized spherical head portion. A male blank has an unthreaded straight shank and an undersized spherical head portion. The rod portion is necked adjacent the head portion. The blank is placed on an indexing table which advances the blank through a series of processing stations. The head portion is heated for three seconds with an induction coil, rested for one second, and heated again for three seconds with an induction coil. The head portion is then flattened, shaped and enlarged in a closed die press. The head portion is quenched to room temperature. The head portion is punched in a die punch to remove the slug and flash.

  • Patent number: 4447032
Abstract: Dissimilar pairs of identical parallel longitudinal grooves having enlarged U-shape central pockets open outwardly along opposite faces of a support block for pivotally receiving correspondingly dissimilar end fittings of cable conduits. A U-shape retainer detachably connects to the block to hold the end fittings in the grooves. The block is connected to a mounting plate in any one of a plurality of positions. In use, the block is turned to match corresponding grooves and end fittings and is connected to the plate to support the cable in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 4441437
Abstract: In a process for the utilization of the heat content of combustible components in sludges, in particular in clarification sludges, the sludge, which still contains a proportion of water, is burnt in a pressure-tight furnace. The resulting steam and exhaust gases are conducted through heat exchangers and a thin layer evaporator, and the exhaust heat and heat of condensation effect, in one or more stages, a heating and thickening of the sludge to be burnt. Pressure-drop machines can be driven by the excess pressure of the exhaust gases, steam circuits and liquid circuits.

  • Patent number: 4428791
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for the fibers of composite building panels, bars are laid against a rotating drum, parallel to each other and close together. Parallel threads or wires which extend in the direction of the drum periphery are then would around the outside of the bars, in a stressed condition, whereby the bars being transported by the drum are pressed against the peripheral surface thereof. The bars are connected by a hardenable binding agent to fibres and a thin sheet of suitable material which move with the drum, and the binding agent is caused to harden, thereby forming a first strip on the drum. The first strip is then brought into a condition of extending parallel to a second strip produced in the same manner, with an adhesive between the two strips. The two strips are then passed through a pair of rollers which press the assembly together, thereby forming an elongate panel configuration.

  • Patent number: 4415137
Abstract: Cantilever attachment method and apparatus are described. A resilient portion of a cantilever assembly holds a first part of an attachment device. The second part of the attachment device is positioned on a side of a post opposite the cantilever assembly. The attachment to the resilient means is positioned opposite an intermediate portion of a base on the cantilever assembly. The base lies against the post when assembled. The cantilever assembly is first tipped upward and the attachment is joined to the resilient portion. Tipping the cantilever assembly downward compresses the resilient portion. Continued rotation of the cantilever assembly downward slightly raises the cantilever assembly along the post and slightly relaxes the compression of the resilient portion, thereby creating an over-the-center clamp.

  • Patent number: 4402201
Abstract: The invention is a unibody key with lateral grooves on one side or both sides of the shank of the key. The lateral grooves are of an irregular pattern and are cut at a depth such that the key can be snapped off along the lateral groove. The snapped-off portion ofthe key can be inserted in a lock. By inserting the snapped-off portion in the lock, only a key which will mate with the irregular pattern of the snapped-off portion will give proper alignment for a key to open such lock. By such operation, the key necessary to open the lock is easily, quickly and effectively changed.

  • Patent number: 4378798
Abstract: The present invention relates to single shot stocks of animal semen to be used for artificial insemination of poultry such as turkeys, hens and guinea fowl, of the kind comprising a tube presenting an opening of relatively small diameter so that the semen introduced therein can be maintained therein by capillarity alone so as to avoid the use of any bung. The object of the invention is to provide a stock of semen of the kind referred to which avoids any risk of waste of material. To this end, the invention provides a stock of the kind comprising a tube made of relatively flexible material presenting an opening for receiving the semen whose diameter is significantly greater than the thickness of the cylindrical wall, one end of the tube terminating in a brim forming by bending the end of the wall within the tube, characterized in that this brim is shaped so that its free edge comes into direct contact with main cylindrical wall of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4374326
Abstract: The proportion of a radioactive material in a moving mass of material is determined with a sensor which derives an output signal proportional to the mass of radioactive material. The output signal is calibrated against known reference values to give a quantitative value of mass. Problems associated with inhomogeneity of material distribution are overcome by averaging the sensed radiation over a time period. Background radiation can be sensed to determine sufficiency of material or it can be shielded from the sensor.

  • Patent number: 4373419
Abstract: Drums have a truncated spherical sidewall section formed integrally with a truncated conical sidewall section. The spherical section is one-half to four-fifths the length of the drum body and it curves about a point located 20% to 40% of the distance between the ends of the drum body. The conical section slopes inward 30.degree. to 40.degree. from vertical. A cylindrical sidewall section extends between the spherical section and the end of the drum. A drum head is stretched across an end of the drum body by tightening bolts which extend through slots in a hoop surrounding the head. The bolts have threaded ends which are received in tapped rods rotatably mounted in the curled ends of sheet elements. The bolts pivot about an axis tangential to the drum body. Radially extending portions of the hoop have bent edges adjacent the bolt heads. The slots are formed in portions of the hoop which project toward the end of the drum.
