  • Patent number: 4630057
Abstract: A leaky-feeder or other form of guided radiocommunication system serving a linear route or track is equipped at intervals with static marker devices which successively modify a radio signal passing those points between a fixed base station and a personal or mobile station travelling the route. By reference to the resulting overall modification to the signal as received at the mobile or fixed station the position of the mobile station may be determined or delimited.

  • Patent number: 4628988
Abstract: In a heating and cooling system for a building, water from either a swimming pool or a well flows through a heat pump unit within the building and recirculates to simultaneously and automatically control ambient air temperature within the building and temperature of the pool water. Hot gases produced by the heat pump are used by an energy conservation unit to heat water for domestic use.

  • Patent number: 4628170
Abstract: In an electric discharge machining method, a workpiece is subjected to an electric discharge machining at a high working speed using water as the dielectric fluid, and after this, the workpiece is finish-machined using oil as the dielectric fluid. An apparatus for carrying out the method has a feeding system for selectively feeding water or oil as the quenched surface of a workpiece is removed by using water as a dielectric fluid in electric discharge machining (EDM) the dielectric fluid to a machining gap between the workpiece and a tool electrode and a returning device for selectively returning the dielectric fluid used in the machining gap to an oil tank or a water tank.

  • Patent number: 4624574
Abstract: An aerated cementitious composition is produced by feeding a mixture comprising cement and foaming agent to a mixing chamber open to atmosphere together with a feed of liquid. The ingredients are mixed and the wetted mixture pumped to a desired site, the capacity of pumping being greater than the feed rate of the ingredients into the mixing chamber such that air is drawn into the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4622942
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus comprises a first storing device for temporarily storing cut-off fuel drained after the termination of a fuel injection, a second storing device of changeable volume for temporarily storing fuel for intake, the second storing device having a movable member which is movable in response to the quantity of fuel introduced therein, a detector for producing a detection signal showing an actural position of the movable member and a clamping device responsive to an electric signal for clamping the movable member. The clamping device is actuated to clamp the movable member in response to the detection signal when the desired amount of fuel is stored therein. The adjusted quantity of fuel stored in the second storing device is supplied to a high pressure chamber together with the cut-off fuel stored in the first storing device during the next fuel intake stroke of a fuel injection pump. As a result, extremely high accuracy control of fuel quantity can be realized.

  • Patent number: 4615171
Abstract: Bicycle Chain is made of alternating bushing links and pin links. The bushing links have parallel bushings held in interference fit in bushing plates and extended axially beyond the bushing plates, solid metal rolls with a lubricating plating are held loosely on the bushings, and loosely between the bushing plates. The bushings extend axially outward beyond the bushing plates for substantial distances. Pins extend through the bushings and are fixed in pin plates to form pin links which alternate with the bushing links. The pin plates are held outward from the bushing plates for a substantial amount by the axial bushing extensions to prevent dirt build up. The pin plates, bushing plates and bushings are plated with an anti-corrosion plating. The pins and rolls are plated with a porous metal plating with solid polymeric lubricant held within pores of the plating for lubricating the pin-bushing interior interface and for lubricating the roll-bushing and roll-bushing plate interfaces.

  • Patent number: 4615361
Abstract: An evacuating pump has a hollow cylindrical body, a cap at one end of the body, and a nozzle at the opposite end. A plunger disposed within the body has a piston attached to an inner end of a reciprocating rod, while the outer end of the rod extends through a bore provided in the cap. When the plunger is withdrawn, a vacuum is created at the nozzle, while on the inward stroke, a check valve flap seats over the nozzle inlet to prevent air from being injected through the nozzle. Air being compressed on the inward stroke escapes around the peripheral edge of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4614201
Abstract: A break-away coupling for incorporation in a hoseline or pipeline, comprises a pair of tubular coupling members each being arranged at its one end for connection to a length of hoseline and provided at its other end with a face to be held in sealing engagement with a complementary face of the other member by frangible connectors. Each connector has one end length of spatulate shape and formed with a through opening to receive a shear pin, a screwed length at the other end to receive a nut, and an intermediate length of reduced section. Valve members in the coupling members are held in open positions against the action of springs until the coupling members are separated on breaking of the connectors; thereupon, the valve members close under spring action. A bleed passageway may be provided to prevent build-up of pressure between the complementary faces, and provide a seal testing facility.

  • Patent number: 4610701
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for separating gaseous and liquid components of a foamy gas liquid mixture, into which device a feed line for the gas liquid mixture and a withdrawal line terminate, and into whose top portion there is arranged a turbine. In order to obtain a complete and quick separation of the gas and liquid components of the foamy gas liquid mixture, it is suggested that the container part, below the turbine is a centrifugal separator into which the feed line terminates as a tangential inlet (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4609117
Abstract: A waste container has top opening closed by a lid member. A pair of arms is pivotally mounted on opposed ends of the container. The lid member is pivoted relative to its rear edge to the upper ends of the arms. The arms are of a length and so mounted to the container ends that the lid can be moved between a closed position and an open position with the front edge of the lid sliding along the upper edges of the container ends. A pair of springs connected between each arm and the container assists pivotal movement of the arms relative to the container during sliding movement of the lid across the container opening. When the container is inverted for emptying, the lid pivots relative to the arms to facilitate discharge of waste from the container.

  • Patent number: 4606237
Abstract: A control device 1 comprises an operator lever 2 fast at its lower end with a lever block 3 which carries a ball stud 4 of which the ball 7 is mounted for universal pivoting in a fixed ball housing 8. A cross shaft 13 is mounted for rotation about its axis in the lever block 3, and links 17 are pivotally connected to opposite ends of the cross shaft and each to an axially movable output member 20. The operator lever 2 can be pivoted about axes passing through the center of the universally pivoted ball 7 to cause axial movements of the output members, either together in the same direction or in opposite directions or one only at a time. A gate may be provided for the operator lever 2 to confine the ball 7 to pivot only about defined axes. A spring 24 may be provided which becomes loaded upon movement of each output member 20 either side of a neutral position to bias the output member and hence the operator lever 2 back to neutral. The output members 20 may operate push pull control cables.

  • Patent number: 4603617
Abstract: A multi-part plunger piston for internal combustion engines, comprises a piston upper part and lower part which engage one on the other through coinciding annular abutment surfaces. The parts are connected with one another by screws which pass through the annular surfaces. At least one of the annular abutment surfaces is domed in the circumferential direction in such a way that the annular surfaces are more strongly resiliently braced in the region between the screws in the finally assembled piston than in the regions around the screws. Due to the elastic initial stressing of the regions of the annular abutment surfaces between the screws it is intended reliably to avoid lifting away of the annular abutment surfaces in these regions during engine operation. When the finally assembled piston is in the cold condition the annular surfaces lie uniformly against one another over the entire circumference, admittedly with locally differing initial stresses.
