Abstract: A truck mounted hydraulic cable reel apparatus for heavy power cable includes bed frame members supporting a circular turntable. A motor rotates the turntable 45.degree. to either side of a longitudinal center line. Two vertical stanchions are mounted on the turntable. One stanchion supports a tail stock assembly, and a second supports a reel drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a reel drive shaft connected at one end to a hydraulic motor and having a reel drive face plate on the other end. The face plate has lugs which engage lugs on an end of the cable reel spool shaft. The hydraulic motor reversely rotates the cable spool to wind in or pay out power cable. Vertical guide rollers are disposed at either end of the horizontal cable roller. Telescoping outrigger booms are adjustably positioned on either side of the bed frame. Multiple guide rollers on the ends of the booms open and lock closed to capture the power cable and to act as outriggers when laying or retrieving cable.

Abstract: A seat belt retractor with a belt tension eliminator comprises a belt take up reel, a retracting spring, means for producing a belt fastening signal, and a tension eliminator which prevents retraction of the belt with a measure of slack in the same, so that the tension or stress exerted on the body of the belt wearer by the belt fastened is eliminated by rendering the force of the retraction spring to be inactive in the normal driving position and posture assumed by the belt wearer.
Abstract: In an electro-discharge machining method for progressively conducting precise machining through relative approach movements between an electro-discharge machining electrode and a workpiece in the horizontal direction substantially perpendicular to a direction in which said electrode is opposed to said workpiece, the method comprises a step of dividing a movement region of said relative approach movements into a plurality of sections within the horizontal plane and a step of selecting trajectories of said relative approach movements for the respective sections for successively and progressively achieving the machining.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for dosing the air-fuel mixture in burners of the type which is formed with an evaporator tube (9) through which fuel and some amount of combustion air is introduced in the combustion chamber (1) and in said combustion chamber is mixed with further combustion air and is inflamed. The optimum amount of combustion air is determined for different amounts of fuel and for different reference temperatures in a predetermined point of the evaporator tube (9) adjacent the mouth (10) thereof in the combustion chamber (1), and the temperature of the air-fuel mixture is measured by means of a thermo element (41) in the said point of the evaporator tube (9).
Abstract: The invention relates to a cylindrical lock of the type comprising a barrel journalling in the bore of a body.In the lock to which the invention relates, the peripheral surface of the barrel and the surface of the bore in the body comprise an assembly consisting of an elastic longitudinal tongue and a shoulder which are respectively integral with the said two surfaces and which are arranged in such a manner that the said elastic tongue interacts with the said shoulder to lock the barrel so that it cannot move longitudinally in relation to the body.Application to the car industry.

Abstract: A breathing apparatus comprises a high pressure oxygen source, a reducing valve, set to give a constant flow rate of from 4 to 30 1/min of oxygen, personal gas supply means, with an inhalation valve and an exhalation valve, a regenerative section and a breathing bag. The apparatus provides a more comfortable and useful apparatus especially suited to the requirements of underground rescue in mines.
Abstract: A motor vehicle is operated with a hot gas power system which includes a compressor which compresses air in normal driving when being driven by the motor and upon slowing or running down hill when being driven by vehicle momentum, a storage tank which holds the compressed air and a heat exchanger which cools the compressed air and supplies the removed heat to heat air as it is released from a storage tank to the motor. An additional heater is used where required. When required, fuel is added to the compressed air and the mixture is ignited and combusted before entering the motor.
Abstract: A microprocessor receives sensor signals and produces signals proportional to total, longitudinal and lateral air speed. An omnidirectional air speed sensor uses pressure samplers on a rotating arm to produce a sinusoidal pressure differential signal related to air speed. An interrupter disc rotating with the arm periodically exposes an opto-electric sensor to light to produce a pulse phase reference signal. In one embodiment, the pulse signal operates a first ramp generator to produce an arm RPM signal and operates a second ramp generator in conjunction with the sinusoidal signal to produce an azimuth reference signal. The RPM and azimuth signals are fed to a processor to resolve the air speed into longitudinal and lateral components. In the preferred embodiment, the processor receives the pulse signal and produces a pair of out-of-phase square wave signals which control chopper modulators which demodulate the sinusoidal signal to produce signals proportional to lateral and longitudinal speed.

Abstract: A transfer has gripper bars capable of grasping, lifting and transferring a work piece. The grasping and lifting motions are actuated by face cams. The face cams act through rocker arm linkages connected to rotatable rods having arms connected to the gripper bars. The transferring motion is actuated by a barrel cam having an axial cam curve positioned between cam followers. A lifting frame has diagonal slots which receive guide pins connected to a base frame. A rack and pinion assembly connected to the gripper bars facilitates the gripping motion. Slidably mounted blocks with toothed wheels supporting arms of various radial extension provide variable travel distances for the gripper bar when moving in the transfer direction.
Abstract: Treatment equipment for mixtures comprising solid and liquid is controlled by determining a value comprising the cumulative mass throughput of solid and an inverse term comprising total treatment time, and monitoring said value substantially continuously until it substantially reaches a maximum.
Abstract: A survey system for determining the shape of a fixed path along which there may be no line of sight from end to end. The system comprises a mobile optical detector adapted to travel along the path and a plurality of optical sources which can be arranged along the path. As it moves along, the detector receives optical signals from consecutive groups of the sources and processing circuitry in the system deduces the angular positions of the sources and hence the shape of the path. In a coal mine, the optical sources are positioned on mine roof supports and the detector on a mining machine which traverses to and fro along the coalface. The system then determines the shape of the coalface. The frequency with which the detector and processing circuitry scan the sources is compatible wiht the mining machine. The sources can be retro-reflectors, in which case a primary optical source is mounted adjacent to the detector.

Abstract: Apparatus is provided for adapting the clamp-type end fitting of a push-pull cable assembly to a bulkhead-type fitting. Identical semi-cylindrical castings form a sleeve on the cable assembly. The castings are offset axially with respect to each other. Ridges formed on the inner surfaces of the castings cooperate to engage an annular groove formed in the cable assembly and thereby hold the sleeve on the cable assembly. Two nuts threaded onto the outer surface of the sleeve mount the assembly to a wall or bulkhead.
Abstract: A damper door unit is swingably disposed in an air intake duct for selectively permitting outdoor intake introduction and indoor air introduction. The damper door unit comprises a main door which is swingably connected to the air intake duct to selectively close an outdoor air intake opening and an indoor air intake opening, and an auxiliary door which is swingably connected to the main door to selectively close and open an opening formed in the main door. When of warming of the passenger compartment is required, the main door takes a position to achieve outdoor air introduction. However, under low speed cruising of the vehicle or at standstill of the vehicle with the engine idling, the auxiliary door opens to a certain extent thereby permitting a certain degree of indoor air introduction.
