Abstract: Mutant B. lentus DSM 5483 proteases are derived by the replacement of at least one amino acid residue of the mature form of the B. lentus DSM 5483 alkaline protease. The mutant proteases are expressed by genes which are mutated by site-specific mutagenesis. The amino acid sites selected for replacement are identified by means of a computer based method which compares the three dimensional structure of the wild-type protease and a reference protease.

Abstract: Detergent mixtures with improved processability contain 70 to 95% by weight of fatty acid isethionate salts, 5 to 30% by weight of fatty alcohols, 0 to 15% by weight of fatty acids, 0 to 15% by weight of alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides and 0 to 15% by weight of fatty acid N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkylamides, providing that the quantities add up to 100% by weight. Heavy metals are also efficiently removed from contaminated soil by a process which comprises leaching or washing the soil with a mild leachant solution comprised of an aqueous solution of an acid and a salt. The heavy metals are recovered from the leachant by cementation.

Abstract: Ammonium fatty acid hydroxyalkanesulfonates are made by a process in which (a) ammonium hydroxyalkanesulfonate corresponding to general formula (I):HO--(C.sub.n H.sub.2n)--SO.sub.3 NH.sub.4 (I)wherein n=2 to 4, is subjected to the esterification reaction with a fatty acid corresponding to the formula (II)R--COOH (II)wherein RCO is an aliphatic, linear or branched acyl radical containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms, in the presence of an esterification catalyst, characterized in that (a) before the esterification reaction, the starting compounds corresponding to formulae (I) and (II) are dried at a temperature of 120.degree. C. to 160.degree. C. and under a pressure of 100 to 700 mbar; (b) the esterification reaction is carried out at a temperature above 160.degree. C. to 195.degree. C. and under a pressure of 250 mbar to atmospheric pressure; (c) water of solution and water of reaction formed are directly removed from the reaction mixture; (d) the catalyst is neutralized with a base on completion of the reaction.

Abstract: Described is the use of physiologically compatible tocopherols and especially of vitamin E as an inhibitor against premature polymerization initiation in reactive systems capable of undergoing a free radical-initiated polymerization, which systems before and/or after the polymerization thereof are placed in tissue contact with the living human or animal body and, more specifically, are implanted into the living organism thereby. Abstract: A process for the production of a highly concentrated fatty alcohol sulfate paste comprising the steps of: (1) forming a crude sulfonation product by reacting a mixture of an inert gas and sulfur dioxide with a mixture comprised of: (a) an unsaturated fatty alcohol of the formula IR.sup.1 --OH (I)wherein R.sup.1 is a linear unsaturated hydrocarbon radical having from 16 to 22 carbon atoms and 1, 2, or 3 double bonds, (b) a saturated fatty alcohol of the formula IIR.sup.2 --OH (II)wherein R.sup.2 is a linear or branched saturated hydrocarbon radical having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms; wherein the molar ratio of sulfur trioxide/fatty alcohol mixture is from 0.95:1 to 1.3:1 and (2) neutralizing, at a temperature of from 50.degree. C. to 90.degree. C., said crude sulfonation product with a quantity of aqueous base sufficient to form a water-containing fatty alcohol sulfate paste product having a solids content of from 60% to 70% by weight and a viscosity of less than 10 Pa.s at 60.degree. C.

Abstract: This invention relates to alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside isethionates prepared by reacting salts of vinyl sulfonic acid at an elevated temperature and in the presence of basic compounds, with alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides of the formula (1): R.sup.1 O--(G).sub.p in which R.sup.1 is a straight-chain or branched-chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group with 6 to 22 carbon atoms and 0, 1,2 or 3 double bonds, G is a glycose unit with 5 or 6 carbon atoms, and p is a number between 1 and 10. The products exhibit marked surface-active characteristics and are useful as surfactants.
Abstract: Process for the production of a neutral-tasting paste of an alkyl ether sulfate in glycerol, comprising the steps of:A) forming an aqueous paste of at least one alkyl ether sulfate wherein the aqueous paste contains from about 25 to about 75% by weight of alkyl ether sulfate;B) adding glycerol to the aqueous paste from step A) in from about 1 to about 4 times the quantity by weight of the aqueous paste;C) distilling off substantially all of the water present in the mixture resulting from step B) to produce a substantially ambydrous paste; andD) passing steam heated to a temperature above 100.degree. C. through skid paste with intensive whirling of the paste and steam phases.
Abstract: In the new process, cleaning and care preparations for floors, shoes, leather and furniture are produced by mixing a wax emulsion containing alkyl glycoside as emulsifier with the other constituents of the preparation. The alkyl glycosides correspond to the following general formulaR--O(--G).sub.n Iin which R is a long-chain C.sub.8-22 alkyl radical, G is a glycoside-bonded residue of a monosaccharide and n has a value of 1 to 10. The wax emulsions are distinguished by particular particle fineness and extremely good compatibility with the other constituents of the preparations.
