  • Patent number: 6821734
Abstract: A method for examining nucleotide sequences of a sample includes adding a group of primers of multiple species to a solution containing the sample and simultaneously synthesizing complementary strands at each of the multiple regions containing the nucleotide sequences; designing the DNA probes with specific sequences elongate the complementary strands by the presence or absence of mutations in the nucleotide sequences, wherein the same number of such DNA probes and the nucleotide sequences are used for complementary strand synthesis; using the nucleotide sequences or their complementary sequences as a template to convert pyrophosphate produced during the elongation reaction to ATP which then reacts with chemiluminescent substrates to develop luminescence to be detected. According to the method, sensitivity is greatly increased by amplification of the amount of pyrophosphate produced in synthesis of the complementary strands without amplifying the copies of nucleotide sequences.

  • Patent number: 6820937
Abstract: A reclining mechanism for a vehicle seat includes first and second attachment members coupled with each other at their outer peripheries and connected by a hinge pin, a slide pawl slidably mounted within one of the attachment members, and a cam element mounted on the hinge pin in a space between the attachment members. The cam element is engaged with the slide pawl to maintain engagement with the ratchet portion of the attachment member when the hinge pin is retained in a torsion spring load position. This construction permits relative rotation of the attachment members for adjustment of an inclined angle of a backrest. In the reclining mechanism, a thrust member is coupled with one of the attachment members and welded to a frame structure of the back rest allowing the device to be assembled as a unit.

  • Patent number: 6822818
Abstract: A hard disk drive and magnetic medium including a servo area, a data area divided into a plurality of sector blocks and at least one micro-servo area disposed between two sector blocks. There may be a micro-servo area immediately preceding each of the plurality of sector blocks. The micro-servo areas include an address mark and a track parity check code that allow the detection of an external shock that causes the recording (write) head to skip to an adjacent track in the hard disk medium. The micro-servo area is smaller than the servo areas, and various numbers of different track parity check codes can be used for different resolution of shock detection. An acceleration sensor may also be provided to detect larger external shocks. By detecting various external shocks with improved accuracy, and aborting the recording operation of data if an external shock is detected, the corruption of data in adjacent tracks is substantially reduced to improve disk drive performance.

  • Patent number: 6818941
Abstract: As the top electrode material of a thin-film electron emitter, a material having a bandgap wider than that of Si and electrical conductivity is used. In particular, a conductive oxide such as an SnO2 or ITO film and a wide-bandgap semiconductor such as GaN or SiC are employed. The electron energy loss in a top electrode through which hot electrons pass can be reduced so as to enhance the electron emission efficiency. A high emission current can be obtained in the case of the same diode current as a prior art. In addition, in the case of the same emission current density as a prior art, a small driving current is enough. A bus line and driving circuits can be simplified.

  • Patent number: 6820179
Abstract: A semiconductor device which has an internal circuit for performing a circuit operation corresponding to a signal inputted or outputted through an input/output interface circuit adapted to a serial bus. The semiconductor device has a non-volatile storage circuit for storing identification data. Internal identification data stored in the non-volatile storage circuit is compared with external identification data included in an input signal supplied through the serial bus by a comparator circuit. A control circuit is responsive to a match detecting signal generated by the comparator circuit to perform a circuit operation corresponding to an input signal subsequently supplied through the serial bus to change the internal identification data stored in the non-volatile storage circuit.

  • Patent number: 6815949
Abstract: An apparatus can detect a magnetic field with a high sensitivity using an ordinary-temperature pickup coil even when the pickup coil is arranged outside a cryostat. Specifically, the apparatus for measuring a magnetic field includes a pickup coil for detecting an external magnetic field, a SQUID electrically or magnetically connected to the pickup coil, a cryostat for holding the SQUID at low temperatures, and a driving device for driving the SQUID. The pickup coil is made of a normal-conducting material and is placed at an ordinary temperature outside the cryostat. By arranging outside the cryostat, the pickup coil can be brought close to a subject and can thereby detect a weak magnetic field in the subject with a high sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 6815083
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium, which has a low level of recording noise and sufficiently large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy relative to demagnetizing field energy, includes a substrate and a multi-layered magnetic film. The multi-layered magnetic film is composed of ferromagnetic metal layers of Co alloy containing at least Cr and non-magnetic metal layers of Pd alloy, each one layer of which are laminated alternately on top of one layer of the other. The ferromagnetic metal layers and the non-magnetic metal layers have a thickness of d1 and d2, respectively, with the ratio of d1/d2 being in the range of 1.5 to 4.0. This specific layer structure reduces the magnetic exchange interaction between magnetic particles in the multi-layered magnetic film. Therefore, the perpendicular magnetic recording medium is stable against thermal disturbance and has a low level of recording noise.

  • Patent number: 6815357
Abstract: A process for selectively forming a metal barrier layer on a surface of an interconnect of a wiring substrate comprising the steps of abrading the substrate and simultaneously feeding onto the substrate a plating solution having said metal dissolved therein. The abrading step comprises contacting the substrate against an abrasive surface and causing relative linear and/or rotary motion between the abrasive surface and the substrate while the substrate is in contact with the abrasive surface. Growth of the metal barrier layer on a portion of the wiring substrate other than the interconnect layer is suppressed and the metal barrier layer thus formed is thinner, exhibits improved uniformity and superior prevention against Cu diffusion.
