Abstract: A viscous fluid dispensing pump such as used on the mechanical arms of computer controlled dispensing systems introduces the fluid into the center of a vertical bore having a dispensing tube at the bottom and a variable pitch thread feed screw in the bore rotated by a precision servo motor. An alternate embodiment describes a conical shaped feed screw with linear pitch turning in a conical shaped sleeve in the bore. In both embodiments, the viscous material is homogenized with gas and low viscosity particles and the servo motor accurately controls the amount of deposition.
Abstract: A flexible shaft in which the interior rotating cable is formed of links having first and second loops formed of wires or bands that have a maximum diameter slightly less than the inside diameter of the outer non-rotating shell. The second loop of one link is linked to the first loop of the adjacent link to provide a very flexible shaft or cable with a minimum of friction.
Abstract: A hand held tool for gathering and later releasing metallic particles such as paper clips or a spilled box of pins or tacks includes a handle with a magnetic attached at the bottom and a sweeper cover covering the magnet and hinged to the handle. Ferrous particles are gathered on the surface of the sweeper cover and later released by pivoting the magnet away from the cover.
Abstract: A truck tire/wheel assembly detection system in which the moving thermal dynamics of a truck are measured before cooling off, by passing over and around contact or non-contact thermometers directed toward the tire/wheel assembly and transmits the approximate temperature of each tire/wheel assembly to a computer which will compares the output data and identifies each abnormally overheated tire/wheel assembly and print out location on rig and other information that may be required. A modem controlled by the computer is used to advise other interested parties of rig condition at this check out point.
Abstract: A magnetized rail for improving the adhesion between the rail and the steel wheels of a rail car will help prevent skidding of the rail car when decelerating from a high speed. The rail is split with an air gap in the rail head and a electromagnet coupled between the split webs of the rail.
Abstract: A scalpel with a blade set at about thirty degrees to the handle has a blade shield that pivots up from the handle and a shield lock that prevents accidental lifting of the shield. The shield lock includes a small movable shaft just below the sidewalls of the shield next to the handle. A small disc is at each end of the shaft close to the handle and prevents the shield from being pivoted up. A counterbore around the shaft on one side of the handle enables the adjacent disc to be pushed in, thus extending the opposite disc permitting the shield to be pivoted up to unshield the blade.
Abstract: A magnetic feedthrough manipulator adapted to be sealed to a chamber for inserting a manipulator shaft capable of rotational and longitudinal movement. The shaft is axially coupled to a ferromagnetic armature having an even number of longitudinal surface splines freely movable within a nonmagnetic tubular housing and which is controlled by alternately polarized magnets in a frame that slides and rotates on the outer surface of the housing. Two or more manipulator shafts may be controlled independently by a like number of armatures in the same housing.

Abstract: In hilly areas, building below the level of flooded manholes or secondary distribution boxes are often damaged by water entering the electric meter enclosure through the service conduit. For eliminating drain water from a service conduit before it reaches a meter enclosure, a drain pipe is installed in the conduit below the meter enclosure. The drain pipe must not be accessible to any probing and therefore has several spaced, oppositely and alternately positioned vanes in the bore with each vane covering over half the area of the bore.
Abstract: A one-way fluid valve formed of a parallel plurality of one-way valve cells, each cell comprising three flexible leaflets each bonded to 1/3 of the edge of a hexagonal opening in a frame, their free center edges joining to close upon pressure from one side and separating to open the valve upon pressure from the opposite side of the frame.
Abstract: The correction for scattered light reflected from a substrate having surface irregularities and the measurement of thin film thickness on that substrate are made using a spectrophotometer system and the Fresnel reflectance equation.
Abstract: An educational game comprising a game board having a closed loop of four legs, each containing eight spaces numbered from 1-4, tokens for each player, a pair of dice, and a plurality of cards, each of which have a word and four numbered statements instructing the player what to do with that word. A player rolls the dice, moves his token into a numbered space and the player to his left reads the card and the instruction having the number corresponding to the number of his space. If the player answers correctly, he takes another turn. The winner is the first player who gets his tokens completely around the loop.
