Abstract: Disclosed herein is a cantilever-type PLC optical attenuator. The optical attenuator includes a base substrate made of silicon, an input waveguide, and output waveguide. Front portions of the upper and lower silicon substrates around the output waveguide are thinner than rear portions of the upper and lower silicon substrates around the output waveguide to provide a cantilever part having upper and lower cantilever substrate parts. A first electrode is provided on a bottom of the lower cantilever substrate part, and a second electrode is provided on the base substrate to electromagnetically correspond to the first electrode. When a voltage is applied between the first and second electrodes, the cantilever part moves up and down by an electromagnetic force, thus controlling the output light.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the controlled growth of nanotubes or nanofibers on a substrate, characterized in that it furthermore comprises the production, on the substrate (11), of a bi-layer structure composed of a layer of catalyst material (71), for catalyzing the growth of nanotubes or nanofibers, and a layer of associated material, said associated material being such that it forms a noncatalytic alloy with the catalyst material at high temperature. The invention also relates to a process for fabricating a field-emission cathode using the above nanotube or nanofiber fabrication process. These processes allow very precise positioning of the catalyst spots from which the nanotubes and nanofibers can be grown and allow the fabrication of cathodes for which the nanotubes or nanofibers are self-aligned with the aperture in the extraction grid. Applications: electron tubes, nanolithography.

Abstract: A connection part between a panel and a support includes a body provided with an elongated segment that extends through an orifice made in the support. It incorporates an over-injected part made of a soft and compressible material on the body. The over-injected part has an absorption ring that envelopes a segment of the body and is in contact with a neck of retainer joined to the panel, thereby absorbing the lateral compressions resulting from positional misalignments due to manufacturing errors and expansions of the support and the panel.

Abstract: A car defogging system reduces energy required to defog a windshield glass of the car. A temperature sensor mounted at the windshield glass detects the glass surface temperature, Ts. A humidity sensor spaced from the windshield glass by a predetermined distance detects the humidity, H, around the windshield glass. A temperature sensor mounted inside the windshield glass detects peripheral temperature Te around the glass. A system controller determines if fog is or is not present by comparing the dew point temperature Td with the surface temperature Ts. Dew point temperature Td is derived by the combining values of H and a temperature Tc based on a combination of Ts and Te.

The waist covering region provided with the indication element includes a first composite sheet, a second composite sheet lying inside this first composite sheet and the indication element interposed between these two composite sheets. The first composite sheet comprises a first intermediate layer, a first outer layer and a first inner layer while the second composite sheet includes a second intermediate layer, a second outer layer and a second inner layer. The respective layers of the first composite sheet are joined together at joining spots arranged intermittently in a waist-surrounding direction.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a deflector of a micro-column electron beam apparatus and method for fabricating the same, which forms a seed metal layer and a mask layer on both sides of a substrate, and exposes some of the seed metal layer on which deflecting plates, wirings and pads are to be formed by lithography process using a predetermined mask. The wirings and pads are formed by plating metal on the exposed portion, and some of the metal layer is also exposed on which the deflecting plates are to be formed using a predetermined mask, and then the metal is plated with desired thickness, thereby the deflecting plates are completed. Therefore, by forming plurality of deflecting plates on both sides of the substrate at the same time through plating process, alignment between the deflecting plates formed on both sides of the substrate can be exactly made, and by fabricating a deflector integrated with the substrate and deflecting plates in a batch process, productivity and reproducibility is improved.

Abstract: A method of fabricating nonvolatile memory devices. The method includes forming a tunnel oxide layer, a stacked oxide layer, a polysilicon layer for a control gate, a buffer oxide layer and a buffer nitride layer in order on the entire surface of a semiconductor substrate, and patterning the substrate vertically to form a control gate and a first device isolation region. The method also includes implanting ions into the first device isolation region to form common source and drain regions, filling the gap of the first device isolation region to form a first device isolation structure, and removing the buffer nitride layer and the buffer oxide layer. The method further includes depositing polysilicon for a word line on the substrate, and patterning the substrate vertically to form the word line and a second device isolation region, forming sidewall spacers on the sidewalls of the control gate and the word line, and forming silicide on the word line.
Abstract: Headband for headwear having a crown portion, the headband being attached to and extending around the lower inside edge of the crown portion. The headband is made of fabric or knitted textile as a covering portion with a mesh lining tape inserted on the inside thereof. The covering portion and liner are sewn together, preferably with stretch yarn, in a chain-like pattern to provide excellent expandability without the need for a separate size controller. The mesh lining tape improves the ventilation provided through the headband, while also serving to retain the overall uniform shape of the crown portion of the cap when the cap is removed.
Abstract: In a process for continuously making disposable wearing articles, a first web which will be finally cut into a series of sheet members that are contiguous to one another in a transverse direction, and that define an outer surface of the article, is continuously fed in a first machine direction. A second web having a ?-shaped cross-section forming individual adhesive taper strips is fed in a second machine direction orthogonal to the first machine direction. The second web is periodically cut in a second cross direction orthogonal to the second machine direction to obtain composites. After the composite is fed to and attached to the first web, the first web is cut together with the composite so as to bisect the length of the composite.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an imaging sonar for detection of objects buried in a reflecting medium, comprising a “vertical” transmit antenna and a horizontal receive antenna forming a “Mills Cross”, said transmission means enabling a vertical radiation angle producing a slightly ensonified area thereby reducing masking of the echo from said buried objects by acoustic backscatter from said reflecting medium. The invention is applicable to sonars and “sonar towfish” used for seafloor imaging and enables detection of sub-bottom objects buried in submarine sediments.
Abstract: The invention relates to gyroscopes having a vibrating structure that is micromachined in a silicon substrate. A novel vibrating structure is described, which has two moving masses 14 and 14?, connected by a vibration energy coupling structure (transverse arms 26, 26?, longitudinal arms 22, 22?, and a short transverse link 24 between the longitudinal links 22, 22?). The moving masses are also suspended from U-shaped flexure arms (13), having one branch end connected to the mass and another end connected to a fixed anchoring point 18. The flexure arms are not inserted between the coupling structure and the mass, but are independent of the coupling structure. The masses are excited so as to vibrate in their plane by electrostatic forces applied by interdigitated combs 11. The Coriolis forces make them vibrate perpendicular to the plane, and this vibration is detected by electrodes forming part of the moving masses.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of forming an interlayer dielectric film in a semiconductor device. More particularly, the present invention selectively forms an insulating film spacer only at a region where a plug is formed between metal lines and removes the insulating film spacer at a region where the plug is not formed to lower the aspect ratio between the metal lines, in a process of burying an insulating material between the metal lines to electrically insulate them. Therefore, the present invention can easily bury the insulating material even between the metal lines having a narrow gap without voids.
