  • Patent number: 4511897
Abstract: In a sensor system including Doppler radar, a radiometer and circuits for comparing the target information received by the two devices, a receiving mixer comprising a mixer oscillator is employed both for transmitting the CW Doppler radar emission signal and for transforming the frequency of the returning radar echo and radiometer signal. At the output of the mixer, the Doppler signal is obtained as a low-frequency signal and the radiometer signal as an IF signal, so that both can easily be separated and individually processed. The radiometer signal is checked only for a jump in the noise temperature. With such a jump present and if simultaneously a radar target is detected, the presence of a metallic target is inferred.

  • Patent number: 4487058
Abstract: Test gas passing through leaks is conducted through a conduit to the discharge end of a counterflow pump or turbo-molecular pump. The leak gases advance opposite to the pumping direction of the counterflow pump to its intake side, and is detected by a detector connected to its inlet. The heavier gases (air) interfering with the detection, for which the counterflow pump has a substantially higher compression ratio, however, are retained mostly by the detector. Heretofore, the partial pressure of the test gas in the detector or the signal given off by it were used as a measure for the test gas current passing through a leak, while according to the invention the speed of the counterflow pump is varied so long until the detector signal has a predetermined size. The invention includes a device for adjusting the speed of the counterflow pump so as to obtain a high detection accuracy at less cost than heretofore.

  • Patent number: 4456156
Abstract: An apparatus for unloading a silo having side walls and a floor which includes a central chute that supplies material to a conveyor box which is covered except for the chute. A conveyor in the conveyor box conveys material from the central chute out through a material outlet in the silo. The central positioning of the chute causes a top surface of the remaining material in the silo to form itself into a conical shape having an apex moving toward the central chute. As the material is depleted to such an extent that the apex of the material surface meets the central chute, the remainder of the material is blown to a lower run of the conveyor and discharged from the floor of the silo.

  • Patent number: 4376540
Abstract: A gas seal for a rotatable shaft of a housing which comprises, a first rotatable dimensionally stable seal ring connected to the shaft. A diaphragm is connected to the housing which exerts an axial bias on a second rotatable seal ring. The bias of the diaphragm provides a gap space between the rotatable and fixed seal ring which is supplied with a sealing gas. The material of the fixed ring is different from that of the diaphragm. A compensating ring is connected unilaterally to the fixed ring and of a material at least partly the same as the fixed ring. A slide seat is defined between the compensating ring and the fixed ring to permit axial movement of at least a part of the compensating ring. This part is connected in turn to the diaphragm so that stress free transmission of axial thrust is provided between the seal ring and the diaphragm.
