Abstract: A process is disclosed for overbasing a substrate comprising mixing a composition comprising said substrate, water, a phenol containing up to three aliphatic carbon atoms, a source of magnesium and a carbonating agent, under reaction conditions to form a magnesium overbased substrate, said water being retained in said composition throughout the overbasing reaction, the weight ratio of the water to magnesium being about 10:1 to about 1:5. A magnesium overbased substrate made by the foregoing process is disclosed. Concentrates and lubricating compositions containing the foregoing magnesium overbased substrate are also disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a curable composition comprising:(A) at least one aminoplast resin; and(B) an amount effective to cure the composition of at least one catalyst which is a sulfo acid, or an anhydride, ester, ammonium salt or metal salt of the acid.The sulfo acid can be exemplified by sulfonic acids, such as 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, or a reaction product of the sulfonic acid and a phosphorus acid or salt, such as a dihydrocarbyl phosphorodithioic acid.The catalyst allows curing of aminoplast resins to be accomplished at low temperatures, while imparting a high degree of water resistance to the cured coating.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved process for beneficiating an ore. In particular, the process is useful for beneficiating ores and recovering metal values such as gold, copper, lead, molybdenum, zinc, etc., from the ores. Abstract: Coupled polyamine additives for lubricants, fuels and functional fluids have been discovered. The coupled polyamines are prepared by the cyclization reaction of at least one reactant polyamine reactant with at least one hydrocarbyl polynitrile. This coupled polyamine may be further reacted with a hydrocarbyl carboxylic acid or derivative thereof, a hydrocarbyl phenolic reactant or mixtures thereof to provide an additive having greater oil solubility as well as imparting dispersancy and VI improvement.
Abstract: A process for preparing a lower alkene polymer from a lower alkene feedstream, including the steps of: (A) contacting the lower alkene monomer with a catalyst system comprising boron trifluoride and at least one acid selected from the group consisting of sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, phosphoric acids and strong acid resins and (B) polymerizing the lower alkene monomer in the presence of the catalyst system at a temperature of about -3.degree. C. to about -30.degree. C. thereby obtaining a lower alkene polymer having a molecular weight of about 250 to about 500.
