  • Patent number: 5165159
Abstract: A process of assembling a wiper system, in which, in a transport position, the wiper arms are fixed onto the wiper shaft in a simply releasable manner and then the unit, pre-assembled in such a way, is delivered to the manufacturer of motor vehicles. There the wiper arms are swivelled from their transport position into their operational position and are permanently fixed onto the proper wiper shaft. Matching the wiper arms to the wiper system during the transport effectively prevents the manufacturer of motor vehicles from assembling them wrongly.

  • Patent number: 5161863
Abstract: The present invention relates to a braking pressure control device for automotive vehicles including a regulating valve, composed of a regulating piston (5) and a valve closure member (6), which governs the connection between a pressure-fluid inlet (3) and a pressure-fluid outlet (4). The valve closure member (6) is coupled to a pressure-responsive displaceable control piston (20). The control device also includes a deceleration responsive deflectable inertia member (33). The displacement of the control piston (20) is controlled as a function of the position of the inertia member. In order to simply accomplish an abrupt and temperature-independent locking of the control piston when a deceleration value is exceeded, the inertia member (33) moves into a mechanical latching engagement with the control piston (20).

  • Patent number: 5161376
Abstract: An arrangement and process for adjusting a supply valve closing in a tandem piston master cylinder is disclosed. The tandem piston master cylinder includes a piston stroked by engagement with an operating rod and a spaced floating piston driven by an interposed return spring, the floating piston captured by the rod engaged piston during the return stroke by a headed screw abutting a projection at the end of a bore within the screw head moves during relative movement between the pistons. Supply valves are opened and closed by the position of each piston. The piston relative positions are adjusted to achieve proper supply valve closing by rotation of the rod engaged piston while fixing the floating piston against rotation which rotates the screw thread which also slightly varies the precompression of the return spring. This adjustment selectively controls the point of closing of the supply valve associated with the floating piston relative the position of the rod operated piston.

  • Patent number: 5161651
Abstract: A damping bushing for a guide pin of a spot-type disc brake is disclosed, having an elastic pleated cup formed with a first end section fixed to a cylindrical body receiving the guide pin, and also formed with a second end section adapted to be assembled to a ring fixed to the guide pin. The ring has a recess which accepts a torus integral with the second end section. The torus (74) is formed with an outer large radius of curvature portion and an inner smaller radius of curvature portion which creates a cam shape. The larger radius portion allows a pleat of the second end section to force the torus over a cone shaped ring end and into the ring recess. The torus then is retained by the smaller radius portion engaging a corner of the recess.

  • Patent number: 5158159
Abstract: A spot-type disc brake in which a brake carrier elastically mounts a brake frame on a pair of guide rods so as to allow limited axial tilting. The brake carrier has a pair of axial arms receiving the brake pads therebetween and each attached to a radial member facing an inner connecting member connecting brake frame arms, and the guide rods extending axially therebetween. The brake frame arms straddle the carrier arms, and a spring element acts to press a contact area on one connecting portion of the carrier arms into engagement with central area on an outer connecting member fixed between the brake frame arms. A space between a pair of radially extending limbs of the brake carrier receives the actuating device mounted on another connecting member extending between the brake frame arms. Guide pins fixed to the brake carrier extend through oblong openings in the brake pads.

  • Patent number: 5158004
Abstract: A brake power booster for automotive vehicles has a booster housing sealingly subdivided by one or more axially movable walls into one or more vacuum chambers and one or more working chambers, wherein a push rod is protected against dropping out of its assembled position, by integral retention features formed in a bowl-shaped insert member that receives the reaction plate. The insert member is received in a recess of the control valve housing and is held therein by a resetting spring which reacts against radially outwardly extending tabs on the insert member. Indentations, sheared-in depressions or radially inwardly extending tabs serve as alternate forms of the retention features.

  • Patent number: 5154495
Abstract: A process is described for positioning the brake pedal during the automatic control mode in an automotive antilocking brake system, in which the pressure in the master cylinder is sensed at a point located where the master cylinder piston sweeps past so that either high or low pressure is sensed depending on the brake pedal position. The pressure sensing is used to generate an electrical signal which is processed in the system controller to it turn generate a control signal transmitted to a pump motor to cause delivery of a volume of fluid to the master cylinder so as to position the brake pedal in the desired position.

  • Patent number: 5152587
Abstract: A brake system is provided which includes a restoring unit by which a restoring force can be applied to the pedal. Since the pedal, at the same time, actuates a control valve 9 determining the booster force, during a restoring operation, the booster force also is reduced. The wall 40 accepting the restoring forces advantageously can be located in the booster housing 5 between the master cylinder 1 and the booster wall 6. Since the wall 40 covers relatively small distances only relative to the booster wall 6, the overall length of the booster housing 5 is not significantly increased.

  • Patent number: 5142939
Abstract: A connection and two step method of manufacturing is disclosed for a drive unit for a wiper arm system which consists of a wiper shaft mounted in a bore through a crank arm. The wiper shaft is formed with a groove disposed within the thickness of the crank arm and material from one surface of the crank arm is displaced to form an annular recess which causes crank arm material adjacent the groove to be radially displaced into a groove formed in the wiper shaft to form an axial holding element. The radial distance R1 of the recess from the crank arm bore is substantially equal to the axial distance A1 of the groove below the one crank arm surface to facilitate the extruding process. Knurled areas on the shaft on either side of the groove are press fit into the crank arm bore as a first step in assembling the shaft to the crank arm, bringing a flange into abutment against the other surface of the crank arm.
