  • Patent number: 6971076
Abstract: Crosstalk noise peaks in output signals of nets of an integrated circuit layout design are estimated by first processing the design to estimate resistances and capacitances of the nets. The design is then processed to identify each aggressor net having at least one section that is proximate to a section of a victim net. A separate aggressor model is then generated for each proximate aggressor net section, the aggressor model including a current source and a capacitor. The design is then processed to identify each victim net that is proximate any aggressor net and a separate crosstalk model is generated for each identified victim net. The crosstalk model for each victim net includes the victim net's estimated resistances and capacitances and incorporates the aggressor model of each aggressor net section that is proximate to a section of the identified victim net.

  • Patent number: 6967603
Abstract: A background calibrating, skip and fill, analog/digital converter (ADC) generates an output data sequence having successive data elements representing magnitudes of successive samples of an analog input signal (X) acquired during successive cycles of a clock signal. The ADC normally samples the analog input signal during most clock cycles, but occasionally executes a calibration cycle in which it samples a reference signal of known magnitude, determines the error in its output data, and calibrates itself to eliminate the error. The ADC calculates a magnitude of data elements of the output sequence corresponding to samples of the input signal that were skipped during a calibration cycle by interpolating preceding and succeeding sample values.

  • Patent number: 6959002
Abstract: A traffic manager for a network switch input or output port stores incoming cells in a cell memory and later sends each cell out of its cell memory toward one of a set of forwarding resources such as, for example, another switch port or an output bus. Data in each cell references the particular forwarding resource to receive the cell. Each cell is assigned to one of several flow queues such that all cells assigned to the same flow queue are to be sent to the same forwarding resource. The traffic manager maintains a separate virtual output queue (VOQ) associated with each forwarding resource and periodically loads a flow queue (FQ) number identifying each flow queue into the VOQ associated with the forwarding resource that is to receive the cells assigned to that FQ. The traffic manager also periodically shifts an FQ ID out of each non-empty VOQ and forwards the longest-stored cell assigned to that FQ from the cell memory toward its intended forwarding resource.

  • Patent number: 6949942
Abstract: A main power source supplies current through path impedance to a power terminal of an integrated circuit device under test (DUT). The DUT's demand for current at the power input terminal temporarily increases following edges of a clock signal applied to the DUT during a test as transistors within the IC switch in response to the clock signal edges. To limit variation (noise) in voltage at the power input terminal, an auxiliary power supply supplies an additional current pulse to the power input terminal to meet the increased demand during each cycle of the clock signal. The magnitude of the current pulse is a function of a predicted increase in current demand during that clock cycle, and of the magnitude of an adaption signal controlled by a feedback circuit provided to limit variation in voltage developed at the DUT's power input terminal.

  • Patent number: 6948138
Abstract: A method for use by a placement and routing tool automatically selects positions for all n I/O buffers of an IC from among a set of m available legal positions for such buffers within an IC layout so as to best meet a set of criteria affected by I/O buffer placement. The method initially establishes a weighted cost function ci,j quantifying a cost, relative to that set of criteria, of assigning the ith I/O buffer to the jth legal position. The weighted cost function is then evaluated with respect to each possible combination of i and j to produce an m×n cost data matrix indicating all costs associated with all of the m×n possible I/O buffer placements. The cost data matrix is then analyzed to produce a placement plan assigning each I/O buffer to a separate legal position in a way that minimizes a total cost of the buffer placement with respect to the set of criteria. The method may also be used to assign I/O pads among a set of legal pad positions.

  • Patent number: 6930625
Abstract: An analog input signal is digitized by first sampling the analog signal to produce a first sequence of analog samples representing successive magnitudes and de-interleaving the first sequence into a set of two or more second sequences. A parallel processing, sigma-delta modulator then processes the set of second sequences to produce a set of two or more third sequences of digital data elements which are then interleaved to produce a fourth sequence of digital data elements. The fourth sequence is then digitally filtered and decimated to produce a fifth sequence of digital data elements representing successive magnitudes of the analog input signal.

  • Patent number: 6931059
Abstract: A rate and delivery time multiplexing for bandwidth optimization algorithm has an allocation portion and a transrating portion. The allocation portion determines how many bits are available for each group of pictures in each program stream that is to be inserted into an outgoing MPEG Transport Stream (MTS). Based upon the allocated bits the transrating portion, when necessary, further compresses the program streams either in the compressed domain when rate reduction is minimal or in the pixel domain when rate reduction is significant. The result is the ability to transmit more video program streams over a given fixed bandwidth pipe for a given level of acceptable picture degradation.

  • Patent number: 6920620
Abstract: In a computer-implemented method and system for creating a test component layout, after creating a reference component layout that is composed of a set of polygonal working shapes, a plurality of shape parameters are defined for the working shapes of the reference component layout, and a parameter template is formed based on the shape parameters of the reference component layout. Thereafter, user-defined distance values corresponding to the shape parameters may be inputted into the parameter template, and the test component layout is automatically created by adjusting geometry of the working shapes of the reference component layout with reference to the user-defined distance values inputted into the parameter template.
