  • Patent number: 8341297
Abstract: A method for determining metrics of a content delivery and global traffic management network provides service metric probes that determine the service availability and metric measurements of types of services provided by a content delivery machine. Latency probes are also provided for determining the latency of various servers within a network. The latency probe calculates, for example, the latency from its location to a client's location using the round trip time for sending a packet to the client to obtain the latency value for that client. DNS servers use the latency test results, along with traffic weightings, to determine a server to return for a given DNS name.

  • Patent number: 8335847
Abstract: A method of servicing requests for information at a server includes receiving a request for information from a client device, and determining a number of attempts of the request made by the client device. Both the client device and the server may count the number of attempts for each request. When the number of attempts is greater than a threshold, the method includes servicing the request and sending the information to the client device. When the number of attempts is not greater than the threshold, the method includes sending a service unavailable message to the client device. A retry-after delay may be calculated by the server according to a predicted time for the server to exit the overloaded state and included in the service unavailable message. The predicted time may take into account both requests currently being serviced and requests that have been scheduled to be serviced in the future.

  • Patent number: 8335853
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, are described for transparent recovery of transport connections. The method includes collecting a state associated with a first connection between a first server and a remote server via a first network socket and transmitting the state from a first networking module to a second networking module. The method includes storing the state, opening a second network socket based on failure of the first networking module, intercepting outbound packets associated with a request to initiate a second connection between the first server and the remote server via the second socket, modifying the intercepted packets based on the state, and transmitting the modified packets to the remote server to elicit an acknowledgement to maintain the first connection. The method includes receiving packets associated with the acknowledgment from the remote server, and modifying the received packets to acknowledge the request to initiate the second connection.

  • Patent number: 8333295
Abstract: The invention in one variation is a pressure vessel having a pair of hemispheres with a wall and a circular edge, a pair of sealing elements, and an intervening mounting plate with circular groove on both sides of the plate. The hemispheres are mounted on opposite sides of the plate. Each groove has an sealing element and the circular edge. A seal is formed between the plate and a hemisphere when the hemisphere is pressed against the sealing element. Pressure can be generated by creating a partial vacuum in the sealed hemispheres or by using clamps. When exposed to higher pressures, such as when the vessel is used underwater, the pressure on the hemispheres is conveyed to the sealing element forming an even tighter seal. The vessel has interface connections that enable communication to and from devices mounted inside. The vessels are modular and can be ganged to provide redundancy or different functions.

  • Patent number: 8332926
Abstract: Techniques for modifying packet filters in a wireless communication network are described. In one scheme, packet filters may be performed with multiple operations, if needed. The operation(s) to be performed and the order of performing the operation(s) may be dependent on the number of existing packet filters to be replaced (N) and the number of new packet filters (M). If N=M, then N packet filters in a traffic filter template may be replaced with a single operation. If N>M, then M packet filters in the traffic filter template may be replaced first, and N?M packet filters may be deleted from the traffic filter template next. If N<M, then M?N new packet filters may be added to the traffic filter template first, and N packet filters in the traffic filter template may be replaced next. In another scheme, packet filters are modified with a single operation using dummy packet filters, if needed.
