According to one aspect of the disclosure, a substantially carbon-free fuel, such as hydrogen (H2), is used to fuel combustion in an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine is operated, at least some of the time, at an equivalence ratio less than 1 and a boost pressure ratio greater than 1.
Abstract: A vehicle (01) has at least two image data sources (02), at least one mixing unit (03), at least one conversion unit (04) and an image display unit (05). The pixel data (09) generated with the image data sources (02) can be brought together by means of the mixing unit (03) in particular for simultaneous display on the image display unit (05). With the conversion unit (04), the pixel data (10) can be transformed to a form of image data (11) which can be displayed on the image display unit (05). The mixing unit (03) includes at least two data input ports (06) for receiving pixel data (09) from the two image data sources (02), and at least one data output port (07) for the brought-together pixel data (10). The conversion unit (04) includes at least one data input port (08) for the brought-together pixel data (10). The data output port (07) of the mixing unit (03) is directly or indirectly connected to the data input port (08) of the conversion unit (04).
Abstract: A submarine is equipped with an extending apparatus on whose free end a container (4) resistant to underwater pressure is arranged, in which an essentially recoil-free gun (5) lies. The container (4) in the submerged condition of the submarine may be brought to the water surface (15) by way of the extending apparatus, and pivoted out so that one may also shoot in the submerged condition.
Abstract: A system and method to control engine valve timing of an internal combustion engine. Electromechanical valves are controlled to improve engine fuel economy. Further, the method can adjust valve operation to provide air-fuel charge motion and increase combustion stability.

Abstract: An apparatus comprising an internal combustion engine, an exhaust system in communication with the engine, a particulate sensor associated with the exhaust system, and a controller in electrical communication with the particulate sensor, wherein the controller is configured to determine a change in a rate of exhaust flow in the exhaust system, to compare the change in the rate of exhaust flow to a preselected threshold rate of change; and if the change in the rate of exhaust flow has a preselected relationship to the preselected threshold rate of change, then to determine a degradation of the sensor.

Abstract: A wick arrangement for an anesthetic evaporator includes a wick with a carrier material (2) that is essentially impermeable to gas provided with wick material (3, 4) on both sides. A great path length is provided for saturating the gas with anesthetic vapor in the smallest possible installation volume by providing flow channels such as helical flow channels (10, 11) extending helically on both sides of the wick. The gas flow is led in counterflow in the flow channels (10, 11) by a housing (9).
Abstract: A method for operating and engine having a cylinder with at least an intake and exhaust valve, comprising of performing a combustion cycle in the cylinder in which exhaust valve closing occurs after intake valve opening thereby creating valve overlap, boosting intake air above exhaust pressure, where said boosted intake air is inducted into said cylinder while said intake valve is open and at least a first portion of said inducted boosted intake air flows past the exhaust valve with both said intake and exhaust valves are open during said overlap, directly injecting fuel to said cylinder that is combusted in said cylinder, where a beginning of said fuel injection occurs after said exhaust valve closing and said directly injected fuel is mixed with at least a second portion of said inducted boosted intake air, and combusting said mixture at a rich air-fuel ratio.
