  • Patent number: 5943338
Abstract: An improvement to conventional ATM network paradigms involves the distribution of ATM switching functions across a large number of ATM switching units, each of which may typically provide a limited number of available ports, and by establishing multiple connections between the larger number of ATM switching units in a partially redundant "chained" configuration analogous to various ring type topologies. A plurality of "XNODES" each comprising a packet segmentation/reassembly circuit and an ATM switching circuit may be interconnected in various ways to form redundant ATM paths without the need to replicate large and expensive ATM switches.

  • Patent number: 5943341
Abstract: A computer local area network using the IEEE Token Ring Standard and Token Ring Adapters for connection to the physical layer and the backplane. The physical layer device and the MAC Device in the present invention are manufactured by different companies and belong to different chip sets. The MAC Device and the physical layer device are not designed to work with each other, and will not directly interface with each other. The present invention uses a programmable array logic (PAO) to modify signals between the physical layer device and the MAC Device so that proper operation can occur, especially with regard to the detection of valid data after frequency acquisition.

  • Patent number: 5942755
Abstract: An infrared optical gas-measuring system with two infrared radiation sources (1, 2) and with at least one multispectral sensor (5). The system is suitable for determining the concentrations of different components of a gas flow. The two infrared radiation sources (1, 2) radiate in different spectral ranges with two different cycle frequencies f.sub.1, f.sub.2. The rays emitted are first passed through a radiation coupler (3), after which they pass through the gas flow to be measured, which is limited by windows (8), at right angles to the direction of flow. The rays finally enter a multispectral sensor (5), of which there is at least one, for measuring the intensity.

  • Patent number: 5938429
Abstract: A device for feeding and igniting in particular gasoline as fuel for the vaporizing burner of a heater, in particular a vehicle heater, is disclosed. The fuel evaporated from a porous body is mixed with combustion air and burned in a combustion chamber of the heater after being initially ignited by a glow plug. In order to simplify the design and improve the efficiency of the device, the glow plug is mounted in a pipe insulated from the outer wall of the combustion chamber and is radially surrounded by porous tubular body that projects beyond the free end of the glow plug into the combustion chamber. Combustion air is supplied in the radial direction to the porous body in the area of the free end of the glow plug and fuel is supplied in the radial direction to the opposite end of the porous body. The part of the porous body located outside the combustion chamber acts as a distributor and temporary reservoir when fuel is supplied.

  • Patent number: 5936963
Abstract: A system using a public access medium to establish asymmetric full-duplex circuits connecting a premises device and a central device. The premises device converts a standard Ethernet interface into the asymmetric full-duplex link. The central device aggregates traffic from a plurality of asymmetric links into one or more local ethernet connection. The premises device is attached to any network node (such as a personal computer, LAN bridge/router, terminal server, etc.) which offers an ethernet interface. The device thereby emulates an Ethernet LAN so that the network node's operation is transparent. Such an Ethernet to asymmetric converter is provided at one end of the asymmetric full-duplex link. The central device aggregates traffic from several asymmetric links into one or more Ethernet connection. This device inspects Ethernet packets as they are transferred in order to determine which physical ports should receive a packet. This device resembles or is provided as a local area network bridge.

  • Patent number: 5931108
Abstract: A preparation station including a fabric support plate, a folding plate and a positioning support for a flap of a flap pocket. The fabric part to which the pocket is to be connected, is supported by the fabric support plate. The flap, and possibly the pocket cut are lined at the preparation station. The pocket cut can also be placed into its folded position by the preparation station. The fabric part, with the pocket cut, if present, and the pocket flap are then moved by a fabric holder to a sewing machine with a sewing position. There, the pocket cut can be sewn onto the fabric part if desired. The pocket flap is in a rotated position, which is angularly spaced by approximately 180.degree. from a final position of the pocket flap. The pocket flap can then be connected to the fabric part by a fastening seam. A turning strip turns over the flap, in cooperation with a folding strip, and another seam connects the flap to the fabric part in its final position.
