  • Patent number: 5060855
Abstract: An arrangement for space heaters for motor vehicles, which are fired with liquid fuel including, (depending on the type of burner used), a glow plug for either igniting a fuel/air mixture and/or vaporizing fuel. Only one type of glow plug, i.e., a glow plug designed for a 12-V electrical system, is normally employed. If the motor vehicle has a 24-V battery, a compensating resistor, which has the same electrical resistance as the glow plug, is connected in series with the glow plug. The amount of electrical energy converted into heat in the compensating resistor is practically equal to that transformed in the glow plug. The compensating resistor is integrated within the burner housing, in which case it is located in the flow path of the combustion air and is properly cooled by the air flowing past it, to provide a safe trouble free and space-saving arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5058288
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a plumb bob device for determining the bed height of bulk material in a shaft furnace. The winding drum 1 for unwidning and rewinding a cable 5 or a chain with a plumb bob 6 suspended at its end is driven by a hydraulic motor 3. A displacement transducer 9 is driven by the shaft of the winding drum 1. The motor for driving the winding drum 1 is a so-called low-speed hydraulic motor 3. The displacement transducer 9 sends a signal associated with the actual measured depth to a pressure-proportional valve 10 directly, i.e., without an electrical control device. This valve presets a plumb bob holding pressure associated with the actual depth for the hydraulic motor 3.

  • Patent number: 5058655
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a thick-walled container casting of a cast iron with a spheroidal graphite comprises forming an inflexible mold spaced between an inner cylindrical dead mold core and an outer mold arranged over the dead mold core, filling the mold space through a gate from an end thereof while cooling particularly the inner mold surface of the mold ajacent the dead mold over the amount of a cooling of a usual sand casting, and dimensioning the gate so that the cast iron solidifies in the gate before the eutectic solidification of the casting sets in. The device comprises an inner cylindrical dead bolt core which has a bottom end and a closed top end and an outer cylindrical mold positioned over the inner core with its top spaced from the top end of the inner dead mold core. The bottom open ends of the inner and outer cylindrical molds are closed by means which define a mold filling closure having a gate dimensioned so that the filling of the mold will effect first the solidification in the gates.

  • Patent number: 5058483
Abstract: A cartridge feed mechanism of an automatic firearm is mounted pivotably on a drive housing. In the pivoted-up position, a coupling tongue 15 of the transmission shaft 9 of the cartridge feed mechanism engages with a coupling groove of a drive sleeve of the drive housing. The coupling tongue shall be prevented from rotating when the cartridge feed mechanism is pivoted down from the drive housing. For this purpose, a slide 16, which locks the transmission shaft 9 in a locking position and releases it in a releasing position, is mounted on the cartridge feed mechanism. Slide 16 is pressed by the drive housing into its releasing position when the cartridge feed mechanism is in the pivoted-up position. In the pivoted-down position of the cartridge feed mechanism, it is brought into its locking position by a compression spring.

  • Patent number: 5059122
Abstract: A dental scaler comprises a hollow sleeve and, arranged inside it, a vibrating piezoelectric transducer bearing a scraper, the extremity of which protrudes from the sleeve, and includes an amplifier connected to the transducerk. The transducer includes a base, of a series of piezoelectric chips on the surfaces of which are arranged electrodes connected in such a manner as to define an input and an output, and a head to which the scraper is coupled. The amplifier has an input, an output and two feeder terminals receiving a low direct voltage by way of a cable connected to an external source of voltage. The output and input of the transducer are connected, respectively, to the input and the output of the amplifier to form an oscillator, the frequency of which is determined by the resonant frequency of the transducer coupled to the scraper.

  • Patent number: 5054824
Abstract: To produce an integrated coupling on pipes manufactured according to the centrifugal casting process, insert rings made of soft PVC are placed into the end parts of the pipe shell mode. In the recess (5a) of one end part (4a), a coupling sleeve (7) is produced by wrapping on a laminate. A recess (5b) provided with an additional annular groove (5c) is produced by the insert ring in the other pipe end part (4b). A prestressed sealing ring (8) is placed into the groove (5c). Projecting beads (8a, 8b) of the sealing ring (8) are compressed by the coupling sleeve (7) on coupling the pipes. The material of the sealing ring (8) that is now being displaced finds space in annular flutes (8d) provided on the inner side of the sealing ring. This integrated coupling is suitable for nonpressurized pipelines and especially for pipes intended for lining reinforced concrete or concrete pipes.

  • Patent number: 5054714
Abstract: The aircraft tractor arrangement maintains a uniform degree of reliability with which the nose wheel landing gear, which is standing on a lifting platform that is arranged on the front part and extends into a recess (26), is held down on the surface of the lifting platform which supports the nose wheel landing gear at different nose wheel diameters. Each telescoping rod (30) is hinged (40, 44, 46) to the front part (10.1) directly in the front. A connecting hydraulic cylinder (42) is provided in the rear. The hydraulic cylinder (46) for longitudinal adjustment, and also the hydraulic cylinder (36) for moving the holder (34) on the fixed part (30.1) of the telescoping rod (30) associated with it are arranged ridgedly. This arrangement allows an adjustability in height of the two rear tow arms and at the same time of the front holders, which can come into contact with the two desired zones of the wheel circumference, regardless of the nose wheel diameter.

  • Patent number: 5054607
Abstract: A drive station for a longwall conveyor includes a sprocket wheel mounted in the drive head of a machine frame and with a drive unit flanged to the sprocket wheel. The lateral walls of the machine frame are formed in the region of its drive head as guide cheeks with guide recesses for bearing cheeks displaceably guided therein in longitudinal haul direction, between which (cheeks) the sprocket wheel is mounted. The bearing cheeks are connected together by a traverse. A chain tensioning device works against the traverse. For the drive chain of a winning machine a second drive unit is provided, which is likewise mounted displaceably in longitudinal haul direction and is acted upon by a chain tensioning device. In this manner the conveyor chain and the drive chain e.g. plane chain, can be tensioned independently of each other while obtaining a short machine frame design.
