  • Patent number: 4704897
Abstract: A method of locating a leak in a block of pipes comprises the filling of the pipe with inert gas and the sealing of the pipe. Thereafter, suction is applied to the pipe for drawing air or atmospheric gas into the pipe through the leak. Care is taken to insure that the block of pipes is sealed, except for the suction port and the leak position. Once a layer of air or atmospheric gas is established in the pipe near the leak position, inert gas is drawn from the pipe by the pump, in a direction toward an oxygen or atmospheric gas sensor. By doing this, the layer of air or atmospheric gas is moved along in the pipe from the leak position toward the oxygen sensor. A measurement is taken of the volume of gas being drawn while the layer of air or atmospheric gas is being moved along the pipe. The oxygen or atmospheric sensor indicates when the layer of air or atmospheric gas has arrived.

  • Patent number: 4703695
Abstract: An apparatus to compensate for the thermal expansion of a component inserted between two elements, particularly an explosive member placed between a lining, and a cover plate in a shaped charge, comprises two rings that are in contact with one another through conical inner and outer surfaces. The ring with the conical outer surface is made of a material that has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the ring with the conical inner surface. So that the apparatus expands upon reduction in temperature and contracts upon increase in temperature to compensate for respective contraction and expansion of the component.

  • Patent number: 4704576
Abstract: Variations in parameters of a waveguide system caused by an excitation of charge carriers of a specimen to be measured and positioned in a microwave field, give definite information on the material properties of the specimen without having to destroy, or even contact the specimen. Irradiation with a sharply focused photon or electron beam of a surface spot having a diameter of about 0.1 to 10.0 micrometers, and displacing of this light spot across the surface of the specimen, with the displacement increments of the specimen within the cross sectional area of a waveguide being of the order of magnitude of micrometers, surface structures such as ground boundaries, steps in stratified-lattice crystals, formation defects, destroyed surface areas, etc., can be detected in photosensitive semiconductor layers with a high resolution.

  • Patent number: 4700603
Abstract: In the production of a desired musical waveform by combining harmonic components corresponding to respective harmonic orders, the cut-off harmonic order q.sub.c, each harmonic component value is controlled by selecting the level Ha and the slope of the Formant filter characteristic. The cut-off harmonic order q.sub.c, the level Ha and the slope value can each be varied over a predetermined range. These operations can be performed with a simple circuit arrangement involving a small number of memories. Therefore, the present invention greatly contributes to the reduction of the size and the cost of electronic musical instruments.

  • Patent number: 4701243
Abstract: A method of cooling and dedusting coke after leaving the coke dry cooling system comprises directing the coke at a temperature of approximately 150.degree. to 200.degree. C. into an immersion tank which has a liquid temperature of approximately 100.degree. C., thereafter conveying the coke out of the immersion tank at a selected variable speed so as to free it of fine dust. The water content of the coke after leaving the immersion tank and after an adequate evaporation time is controlled by the speed of the conveyor which is located in the immersion tank and the water content is advantageously kept below 5%, preferably from 0 to 3%. The immersion tank comprises a closed housing overlying a box-shaped tank with a continuously revolving chain conveyor located so as to extend through the tank at its upper reach for conveying the coke into the tank and which has a lower return reach which is directed outside of the tank below the tank itself.

  • Patent number: 4700616
Abstract: The invention relates to a cylinder and piston unit with a cylinder tube closed at both its ends by cylinder end caps. An axially moving piston in the cylinder has a piston rod extending sealingly through at least one end cap. On the outer face of the tube there are four longitudinal means such as longitudinal ribs or round tie rods extending in the axial direction of the tube and equally spaced in the circumferential direction about the tube. Furthermore there is a mounting yoke for pivotally carrying the cylinder and piston unit and having at least two, and more especially four, generally diametrally opposite clamping jaws with trunnions on two of them. The mounting means furthermore constitutes an annular structure encircling the tube. At their ends the clamping jaws have gripping faces adapted to engage and grip the longitudinal ribs or rods on opposite sides thereof so that the tube is held firmly by clamping the jaws together.

  • Patent number: 4701522
Abstract: It is the object of the invention to provide a chemical substance which is effective, in particular, against insect-transmitted viruses, compared with conventional plant-virus disease preventive agents. This substance is produced from tissues of plants of the genus Mirabilis, and may be widely utilized as a basic protein with anti-plant-virus effects and as an active ingredient for plant-virus diseases preventive agents. Such preventive agents can eliminate difficulties in safety, and is effective because antiviral activity is developed systemically.

  • Patent number: 4698895
Abstract: The feature characterizing the method is that in an operation following the finishing of the track supporting structure, the mounting bodies are machined in a way such as to correct the structural inaccuracies caused by manufacturing tolerances of the prior art steel and concrete construction, to obtain an accurate mutual position of the equipment parts at the location of attachment. For this purpose, preferably, the mounting bodies are provided at the securing locations with bores and countersinks which are accurate in all the coordinates and correspond to the bolts or bores of the equipment parts, to finally mount these parts by means of bolts and spacer bushings. The bores and countersinks are formed by computer controlled drilling machines in a workshop where the support structures are held at a position which they will ultimately have in the field.

  • Patent number: 4700311
Abstract: Materials and systems substantially having photoactive properties are produced with a high quality output and without time losses in the fabrication process. To determine the quality of the photoactive material in situ, conductivity is induced in the material by exciting charge carriers through irradiation, and an electromagnetic field influenced thereby is measured, with the result of the measurement being evaluated by a computer with a corresponding control of actuating members such as valves and controllers. Optimum process parameters are thus found and used for the process.

  • Patent number: 4699173
Abstract: A mixing and proportioning device for flowing media, which has feeding lines equipped with a pressure reducer for each line that leads through a mixing chamber and a mixed gas discharge pipe is constructed so that the mixing device closes independently of the supply pressure in the feeding lines, as the pressure differential between the mixing chamber and gas discharge chamber drops below the initially set value. For this purpose, the mixed gas discharge channel is connected to a gas discharge chamber, which is separated from the mixing chamber by a pressure-sensitive spring-mounted device, and this device has a connecting channel equipped with a closing arrangement valve disposed between the mixing chamber and the gas discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 4699250
Abstract: A lubricant dispenser for a viscous lubricant such as grease, for a chuck body of a power chuck, comprises a container for containing a supply of the viscous lubricant. A delivery plunger, which is in the container and acts on the lubricant, is continually subjected to the pressure of a pressure medium. This forces lubricant from the container into a flexible line which is connected to a pressure intensifier mounted on the chuck body. The pressure intensifier contains a pressure piston which is movable under the influence of an intermittently operating pressure medium, and which carries a displacement piston which can be engaged against a receiving insert of the chuck body to open a valve and close the discharge of lubricant from the pressure intensifier into the chuck body.
