Abstract: Wheel balancing apparatus includes a shaft for rotating the wheel. Sensing devices are provided on spaced bearings for the shaft to obtain dynamic and positional data concerning the imbalance of the rotating wheel. A feeler arm is mounted so as to be angularly and axially slidably movable about and along an axis parallel to the wheel axis, in such a manner that contact means on the arm are brought successively into contact with opposite edges of the wheel disc. Potentiometers are associated with the arm to sense its axial and angular position when the contact means are in contact with the wheel edges. The radius and thickness of the wheel can then be derived from these positions.

Abstract: An acoustic direction finding method utilizes correlation between the signals of plural sound pickups on a rotating base. As the base rotates the pickups receive signals from a source of sound which is the target for which direction information is to be obtained, these signals are shifted in time from one pickup to the next. The base is rotated substantially at constant speed with one full rotation being divided into a plurality of angle sections. The pickup signals are correlated in the individual succeeding angle sections, thus obtaining a correlation function with a correlation peak corresponding to the target direction for each angle section. The correlation functions of the same angle section are added to each other with successive rotations of the base. A curve generated by the correlation peaks is then smoothed and utilized to determine the direction of the target.

Abstract: A tire manufacturing mold comprises a mold body having an inner circumferential surface corresponding to the contour of a tire being molded, and includes at least the tread thereof. The body has a mold attachment for molding recesses of the tire being molded and a joint surface with the inner circumferential surface of the mold body. The mold attachment is detachably fitted to the inner circumferential surface of the mold body.

Abstract: A multipurpose clamping device for a modular tool comprise first and second clamping jaw members each of which has a front face with an aligned modular tool clamping receiving opening. The jaw members include base portions with side rails extending therethrough at spaced lateral locations providing means facilitating the movement of the jaw members toward and away from each other without canting. The clamping device is associated with each opening to clamp the tool in position. The clamping device may be used as a vise by inserting a vise clamping jaw into each opening of each member and in such instance the spindle is advantageously threaded to each member to permit members to move upon driving of a threaded spindle member. The device may also be used for example as a support for a hand drill which may have its forwarded end inserted in the opening and clamped therein so as to line a tool receiving chuck therein which may be rotated and align it with a tailstock center carried by the other jaw member.

Abstract: A filtering and post-combustion device for waste gases, particularly of internal combustion engines, is designed with a plurality of filtering elements which are mounted at equally spaced radial locations within a circular or oval housing and are radially transversable by the gas stream which enters and leaves axially through funnels. At the inner filtering elements, the outlet chambers are separated from the adjacent inlet chambers of the respective following filtering element by axially extending walls. Each individual filtering element comprises a perforated retaining shell, a filter body, such as a wire mesh, permeable to gas, and a perforated supporting wall.

Abstract: A feed drive for a stitch group sewing machine includes a cam plate serving to drive a work clamp. The cam plate is connected to a controllable clutch driven from the drive motor of the sewing machine. In order to keep the stitch length constant at varying lengths of the stitch group, the output speed of the clutch is controllable by a control device as a function of the rotational speed of the sewing machine of the transmission ratio of a gearing between the cam plate and the work clamp which determines the length of the stitch group, and of the adjusted stitch length. The stitch group to be sewn may be divided into two sections having their stitch lengths variable independently of each other, by providing that a switch responsive to a partial revolution of the cam plate corresponding to the length of the first section, alternately connects one of two potentiometers which determine the stitch length, to the control circuit of the clutch.

Abstract: In a rail vehicle with anticlimb equipment, the occurring normal shocks are absorbed by draw and buffer devices which are provided in tandem with the central buffer couplers. To take up excessive impacts, an excess-impact safety effective through deformation is built into the coupler bar of the central buffer coupler. The purpose of the inventive arrangement with an additional excess-impact safety is to be able, upon a collision accident, to take up further excess impacts, in addition to those which are absorbed by the excess-impact safety of the coupler bar. The additional excessive-impact safety is so disposed that it remains unaffected during the response of the excess-impact safety of the coupler bar.

Abstract: In a sand-dispensing device for motor vehicles there is provided a refillable sand container, a sand channel with a sand outlet closable by a flap that opens downwards, and a heating system in the contact area of the flap at the sand outlet. This comprises an electrical heating wire that is provided in the contact area such as in the walls of the sand outlet or in the flap and/or in a gasket between the flap and the sand outlet. The heating system helps prevent the flap freezing shut on account of road spray, snow and cold, and thus preserves the functional capability of the sanding system.

Abstract: A gas mask comprises an outer full mask and an inner half mask for closed cycle respirators leaving an interspace between the half mask and the full mask. The outer mask is sealed around the person's face by one or more sealing frames and the inner mask is sealed with the face around the wearer's nose and mouth. The construction includes a passage between the half mask and a full mask with a check valve which opens with exhalation resistance in a direction toward the space between the full mask and the half mask. The outer full mask has a wall with a linkage compensation device which is closed by a cover and includes a bellows which expands and contracts in the device in accordance with variations in pressure within the interspace between the two masks. A spring is employed to bias the bellows into one of an expanded or contracted situation so that the bellows may either expand or contract against the spring pressure during operation and provide a leakage compensation in the space between the masks.

Abstract: A waste heat boiler system includes a vertically elongated waste heat boiler having an upper portion with a waste gas inlet and a lower portion with an exhaust line connection which in addition to its vapor generating tubes includes evaporator tube nests and a water preheater. The waste gases are received from a dry coke cooling vessel and they are delivered through a separator by a blower to the lower end of the coke cooling vessel for flow upwardly through the hot coke. The superheater is mounted over the waste heat boiler and has a connection through a controllable valve to the top of the waste heat boiler. The superheater includes its own burner and air and external gas supply are supplied to the combustion chamber for the superheater along with bypass portion of the circulated waste gases. The steam generated by the boiler is delivered from a steam cylinder or drum in the superheated tubes of the superheater.

Abstract: An assembly for carrying cargo which comprises a cylindrical tank rotatable about a horizontal axis and having a torque partition member dividing it into an upper and a lower compartment, rotating rails provided around the periphery of the tank, support rails for guiding and supporting the rotating rails, and means for locking the tank against movement. The compartments of the tank are connected to cargo pipes and gas pipes through a connecting means associated with each tank. A liquid cargo can be loaded in the upper compartment simultaneously with the unloading of the liquid cargo from the lower compartment and the loaded upper compartment can be placed in a lower level position by the rotation of the tank caused by a torque produced by the partition member during loading and unloading.

Abstract: An optical fiber temperature thermometer uses a thermochromic substance having optical absorption peaks which vary with temperature within a first waveband, and having substantially constant absorption with temperature in a second waveband. The radiation employed is in a wide band to include the first and second wavebands, and the radiation, reflected and attenuated as a result of the passage through the thermochromic substance, is split into two selected beams and filtered in narrow band pass filters for the first and second wavebands, to supply optical signals to respective detectors whose outputs are divided to produce a ratio signal representative of the temperature. The sensor is sufficiently compact for biomedical use, and, being unaffected by electromagnetic fields, is useful in regions of high tension or in microwave heating.

Abstract: A device for use with a sewing machine for making garments with pleats operates with a folded-over workpiece which is advanced past a reciprocating sewing needle and includes a pleating bar assembly which is insertable between the folds of the material and includes portions which engage against the folds of the material to hold a pleat in position while it is moved by a feed pressure member into a sewing position. The pleating bar assembly includes a supporting member such as a shaft or a rod having pleat members with bearing portions which are rotatable on the support member to permit the plates to be held in position and to be collapsed for bringing the pleat to a sewing position. The material is held by needle or pin members which engage into the material as it is fed into the sewing position.

Abstract: A linear drive has a pneumatic or hydraulic actuator cylinder, whose piston rod is fixed in place and whose moving, axially guided cylinder forms a supporting and driving part of a stroke ratio changing transmission for transmitting the relative motion between the cylinder and its axial guide to a linearly moving drive output member. A useful effect is produced by having the output member (1) guided on the outside on a slotted tube, a driving spur of the member (1) running in the slot in the tube and being fixed to the stroke ratio changing transmission that is inside. The tube placed round the cylinder is used for axially guiding the cylinder. The stroke ratio changing transmission is for example in the form of two pulleys mounted on the cylinder and a cord trained over them, the cord being fixed to the member and joined to the tube by a mounting arrangement.

Abstract: A fabric folding machine includes a conveyor belt on which the fabric is held and its motion controlled by suction. A pair of lateral blades are hinged about an axis parallel to a fabric feed direction for creating longitudinal folds. Transverse folds are produced by comb-like blades hinged perpendicular to the fabric feed direction. Two sets of comb-like blades are provided which are movable in opposite senses.One of the two sets of comb-like blades can assume two or more positions. The lateral blades can also be adjusted in terms of their distance apart, orthogonal to the fabric feed direction.

Abstract: A folding machine for folding sheet material comprises a housing defining a space and having an in-take opening and a discharge opening for sheet material before and after it is folded. A frame is provided in the housing and carries four rollers which are engaged with each other to form a take-in nip for receiving sheet material from the in-take opening, a first folding nip for executing a first fold on the paper and a second folding nip for executing a second fold of the paper. The rollers are engaged to each other by gears and are rotated by a single electric motor for moving the sheet material from the take-in nip to the first folding nip and from the first folding nip to the second folding nip. A pocket is formed upstream of the first folding nip in the housing for receiving the sheet of paper to stop its forward progress. The sheet of paper is continued to be fed by the take-in nip so that it folds into the first folding nip which draws the now once folded paper from the first pocket.

Abstract: A respiratory system comprises a breathing gas source which is connected to a feed part such as a tracheal tube connection to a closed circuit respiratory gas ventilation circuit. The gas ventilation circuit has a pressure relief connection therein. The gas feed part is connected to the breathing gas source and to the breathing gas supply through a control which controls the feed of a pulse of gas through at least one gas nozzle which is mounted to extend into the feed part at a location to form a suction area in the feed part which induces the flow of the ventilating gas through the feed part and the closed circuit respiratory gas ventilation circuit.

Abstract: A driver for a chain conveyor which is adapted to run in a conveyor trough which has side guide walls comprises a driver arm portion having outer side edges which terminate in a polygonal pin portion which tapers inwardly in lateral and longitudinal directions toward its outer end. A guide shoe has an inner side face with a recess into which the pin portion of the arm extend and the guide shoe is pivotally supported on the arm pin portion by a pin or sleeve element. The guide shoe includes an inwardly extending nose portion which rides between side edges of a U-shaped recess of the arm portion. Surfaces of the nose portion and the U-shaped recess of the arm defining recesses and stops for limiting the pivotal movement of the shoe.
