Abstract: In a power chuck including jaws moved by drivers which are displaceable in the axial direction of the chuck body by means of an axially displaceable actuating member mounted in the chuck body, the actuating member is coupled to the individual drivers through two gimbal rings which compensate for unequal displacement of the jaws. The gimbal suspension can be bridged by connecting the rings rigidly to each other. A balanced as well as centric clamping of a workpiece may thus be effected. The manufacturing costs are low so that both economy and high reliability in operation are obtained.

Abstract: A sewing machine assembly comprises a work holding device which is mounted in a fixed location on a support such that a sewing machine carriage frame is movable toward and away from the workpiece holding device. The sewing machine carriage frame carries a support for the sewing machine which is movable transversely relative to the workpiece holding device by cog belts which are driven by a rotatable motor so that the sewing machine support moves backwardly and forwardly. The sewing machine is also mounted on a resilient support of a plate and an eccentric motion is imparted to the sewing machine by a driving motor and an oscillatory motion is imparted to the sewing machine in addition to its relative movement in respect to the holding device.

Abstract: A loading ramp for cartridges to be supplied from a magazine to a gun of an armored vehicle turret comprises a ramp tube which defines a path of travel for the cartridge from the magazine to the gun. A rocker is pivotally mounted to the bottom of the ramp tube at an end of the tube near the gun. The rocker has a first rocker lever which is near the gun and a second rocker lever which is spaced away from the gun. The second rocker lever carries a stopping cam which can be engaged by the flange of a cartridge to pivot the rocker so that the first rocker lever rises. The first rocker lever is in a correct position for raising the forward end of the cartridge to center it with the gun barrel axis. The rocker is also spring loaded so that the stopping cam is biased into the ramp tube awaiting the passage of a cartridge flange.

Abstract: An igniting mixture is provided for chemical oxygen generators used in respirators and resuscitators for making an oxygen supply available. In chemical oxygen generators the oxygen is present in chemically bound form and when needed is released in the course of a chemical reaction with the triggering of an ignition. The ignition device with an igniting mixture is normally contained in the upper part of the chemical oxygen supply present in candle form. From here, then, begins the reaction after the ignition. To ensure the storability of the oxygen generators, the igniting mixture remains thermally stable up to a temperature of 100.degree. C., but can be activated by water and also by a higher temperature. The igniting composition consists of a mixture of an alkali and metal oxygen compound selectively with an oxygen containing silicon compound, percarbonate, metal peroxide or superoxide.

Abstract: A piston and cylinder actuator is of modular construction and is made of axially aligned actuator cells or units that are able to be joined together end to end and each comprise a cylindrical wall with end walls, a piston and a piston rod. In the case of all single cells, with the possible exception of the cell at the end opposite to the end at which the piston rod is to act on a load, the piston rod projects out from the two sides of the piston and the end walls each have an opening for the piston rod ends so that in the assembled condition of the actuator the piston rods of the individual cells abut each other where the end faces of the cells adjoin each other. The piston driving spaces that in all cases are on the same side of the each piston, may be supplied with driving fluid in parallel by way of ducts running from one end of the actuator to the other and made up of holes in the cylindrical walls of the cells.

Abstract: A thread cutting device for a lockstitch sewing machine having a rotary hook rotating in a horizontal plane, comprises a thread catcher which is pivotable in a horizontal plane and designed with a catch shoulder for needle and bobbin threads. The catcher cooperates with a stationary cutting tool as well as with a leaf spring which serves as a clamp for the end portion of the bobbin thread. The thread catcher is designed with a retaining shoulder by which the needle thread loop, upon being passed around the bobbin case, is caught and then released before being cut. The temporarily retained thread length substantially corresponds to the thread length which is pulled out sidewards while the thread catcher moves into its cutting position. Since no needle thread is thereby pulled off the thread supply by the thread catcher, only a minimum force is needed for moving the catcher.

Abstract: In a circuit arrangement for controlling the operating temperature of the heating coil of an electric soldering iron, the resistance variation of the heating coil itself is to be evaluated at lowest possible cost of circuitry and doing away with a thermocouple sensor that used to be arranged in the region of the soldering bit or of the heating coil, at high mechanical cost. To this end, a precision resistor is inserted in the heating circuit and a TRIAC switching element connected between the latter and the heating element, which is switched open by a comparator circuit as a function of the voltage drop at the precision resistor or which lets through only the pulses of a pulse generator circuit required for measuring the switch-on threshold, which pulse generator circuit is synchronized via a null detection circuit for null passage of the AC voltage.

Abstract: Hydraulic press including a frame with platens, at least one of which is carried or formed by a pressure plate structure adapted for transferring pressing force to an object between the platens, which press is adapted such that the pressure plate structure is substantially carried solely by horizontally adjustable supports mounted between the defining outer edges of such plate structure, such supports being positionally adjustable such that the surface of the corresponding platen assumes a predetermined shape during the pressing operation. The press suitably includes a mechanical mechanism for effecting the horizontal displacement in order to gain the desired positional adjustment of the supports.

Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for transversely stretching a film tube at a portion to be transversely sealed and preventing creases from occurring in the transversely sealed portion of the film tube when a product fed in the film tube is separated by a squeeze roll means into a specified amount for one pack and thereafter the film tube is transversely sealed. Butterfly arms which pivotally spread apart in a fan-like manner are used for the stretching means.

Abstract: A sewing machine for automatically making edge-parallel seams comprises a scanning device for recognizing the geometric form of the workpiece edge and a pressure piston lowerable laterally of the stitch formation point. For straight workpiece edges extending at an angle to each other, the pressure piston, having been lowered onto the workpiece with the sewing machine stopped, is rotated around the needle which is inserted in the workpiece, the workpiece being taken along accordingly. For a convexly arcuate edge pattern, first the lateral distance of the pressure piston from the needle is readjusted in such a way that it corresponds to the radius of the edge arc (e.g. scallop). Thereafter, with the sewing machine continuing to run, the pressure piston is lowered, whereupon the feed dog of the sewing machine rotates the workpiece around the pressure piston.

Abstract: A hygienic covering for the bearing surface of an annular seat of a water-closet, consisting of a layer of paper, plastified paper or the like in the form of a cylindrical ring including two annular resilient edges provided with elastic bands, for providing a covering, can be positioned on said surface of seat, in order to be engaged with one resilient edge with the elastic band at the outer edge and to be kept substantially tensioned above the surface of the seat by means of the other resilient edge with the elastic band.

Abstract: A plate and scraper chain conveyor trough is disclosed for mining operations. Each conveyor trough which has opposite lateral sidewalls is provided with reinforcing plates which are welded to the sidewalls. Each reinforcing plate has a socket member at one end and a ball member at the other end. The ball member is adapted to engage a socket member of a plate in an adjacent trough to enable the conveyor length made up of a plurality of troughs to withstand increased pull from a scraper chain which is pulled with increased power.

Abstract: A device for admixing liquid anesthetics into the respiratory gas to be supplied to a patient makes it possible to monitor the concentration, the flow of respiratory gas, the mixture ratio, and the flow of anesthetic. Errors may thus be indicated and safety is increased in medical practice. The device utilizes the phenomonen that during the evaporation of an anesthetic admixed with the respiratory gas, the temperature in the thermally insulated ambience of the mixing chamber drops by an amount depending on the ratio of the vaporized anesthetic to the respiratory gas, thus on the concentration. The temperatures are measured at the inlet of the mixing chamber by an inlet sensor and an intermediate sensor, and at the outlet of the mixing chamber by an outlet sensor.

Abstract: A device and method for dry cooling incandescent coke comprises a closed cooling chamber having a coke inlet, for example, at its top end and a coke delivery or discharge at its bottom end which is subdivided by a plurality of vertical walls so as to leave coke flow spaces between the walls. The walls are constructed to define a continuous meandering path for coolant which is circulated through the walls during the flow of coke therethrough. The walls comprise superposed ducts arranged vertically one over the other and which for example are welded together and which have respective ends connected to a superjacent or subjacent duct so as to form a continuous meandering coolant flow passage. The coolant is circulated through inlet and outlet connections arranged exteriorly of the chamber and the coke flow and coolant flow are controlled through the chamber as desired to affect the cooling rate selected.

Abstract: For the treatment of combustion gases, particularly for domestic use, the gases are sprinkled or sprayed in parallel current or in counter-current with a washing liquid traversing vertical channels or ducts. At the upper end of each vertical duct there are arranged as sprinkling or spray nozzles a plurality of parallel downwardly directed small tubes pressed against each other. A washing liquid is supplied from a lower collector container or tub by means of a circulation pump up to an upper tank or storage space; with its filling, the liquid level of the lower collector container lowers to a point that the combustion gases from the supply pipe freely enter the first vertical duct and they may be evacuated through the outlet channel or treated gas outlet connected to the last vertical duct. Thereby, the washing liquid which leaves the upper tank through the spray nozzles purifies the gas by removing solid and soluble components while simultaneously cooling the gases.

Abstract: A method for approaching a predeterminable end point of a seam spaced from the edge of a workpiece, with a sewing machine which comprises an adjustable needle and lower transport, a sensor arranged before the needle and triggering the process for the positioning of the needle in the end point during passage through the edge, a pulse generator coupled with the main shaft of the sewing machine for the delivery of counting pulses for a pulse counter, and a micro-computer which controls the action of the feed means as a function of the pulses originating from the sensor and from the pulse generator. To execute a desired shortening of the length of one or more of the last stitches before the end point of a seam, the workpiece is moved back by the difference between the desired stitch length and the stitch length set by the setting device, before execution of the adjusted feed.

Abstract: A circuit in an electroacoustic transmission system suppresses amplitude peaks which are caused by the utterance of a stop consonant such as a "P". A microphone of the transmission system has an output which a high-pass filter is connected. The high-pass filter is normally inactive but can be activated by an electronic switch for a brief period of time. The switch is controlled by a train of electronic elements functioning as a detector for detecting a characteristic quiescent or pause period before the explosive discharge of the stop consonant. Upon detecting this pause the electronic switch is activated and held activated for about 10 to 30 ms. During that time the peak occurs but is suppressed in that it is not passed by the high-pass filter which is activated during this time.

Abstract: A method of optical data processing employs a modulable source of light which illuminates an optical assembly. A storage location selector is employed to apply a second modulating signal to an address selected storage location of a charge storage register. A charge storage register provides a selected storage cell with a potential of the modulating signal. After storing the predetermined potential variation in the charge storage register the potential of each cell is applied through an optical modulator to the photocell of a photodetector arrangement. The optical properties of each modular element is controlled through the potential of the associated cell of the charge storage resistor in a manner such that the intensity of the light falling on the photocell is a function of the total intensity incident on the optical assembly and also a function of the voltage applied in the respective modular element.

Abstract: A solenoid valve unit for the control of the supply of compressed air to an air driven load and controlling the letting off of such air from the load has a valve housing with a pressure port, a power air port, a let off port for the valve space and a further let off port for the load driven by compressed air. The further pressure let off port is opened up and shut off by a valve plate or thimble that is only moved by pressure. This design makes possible a compact form of the valve so that the pressure port, the power air port and the further pressure let off port are placed on only two housing faces.
