  • Patent number: 7042223
Abstract: A method of inspecting a conduit and a conduit inspection device are disclosed. The method relates to producing a primary magnetic field to induce a current in the conduit so that the currents produce a decaying secondary magnetic field influenced by the conduit. The secondary magnetic field is analysed by time domain analysis to provide an indication of the state of the conduit. The device which produces the primary magnetic field can be moved relative to the conduit so that the secondary magnetic field is detected at different positions along the conduit so that the state of the conduit at various positions along the conduit can be determined. The device for producing the primary magnetic field comprises a transmitter having at least one winding and a detector for detecting the secondary magnetic field comprising at least one inductor coil. A storage is provided for storing the data detected by the inductor coil and is coupled to the conductor coil by a communication link.

  • Patent number: 7042929
Abstract: Data from a plurality of communications is transmitted in a code division multiple access communication system. The transmitted communications are received at a receiver and converted into a baseband signal. The baseband signal is sampled to produce a received vector. An estimating device estimates channel responses as a channel response matrix and estimates a noise variance of the received communications. The noise variance is then scaled using a scaling factor derived from at least one gain factor determined for at least one received communication. The received communications are then equalized using the channel response matrix and the scaled noise variance to produce a spread data vector. The spread data vector is despread in order to detect data transmitted as part of the received communications. In an alternate embodiment, the channel response matrix is scaled instead of the noise variance.

  • Patent number: 7039030
Abstract: A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) for a code division multiple access (CDMA) telecommunication system utilizes a plurality of protocol layers including a physical layer and a medium access control (MAC) layer such that the MAC layer provides data to the physical layer via plurality of transport channels (TrCHs). Each TrCH is associated with a set of logical channels. The physical layer receives blocks of data for transport such that the transport blocks (TBs) includes a MAC header and logical channel data for a selected logical channel associated with a given TrCH. Each TB has one of a selected limited finite number of TB bit sizes. The logical channel data for each TB has a bit size evenly divisible by a selected integer N greater than three (3). The MAC header for each TB has a bit size such that the MAC header bit size plus the logical channel data bit size equals one of the TB bit sizes.

  • Patent number: 7036474
Abstract: A control device and method for adjusting the angular velocity ratio (?N(t)/?K(t)) between a camshaft and a crankshaft is provided. Various control devices and methods for rotating the camshaft relative to the crankshaft provide a drive which may advance and retard the camshaft in comparison to the crankshaft. Previous systems have the disadvantage that either two drives in different directions are necessary for each actuation direction or the drive must have right-handed rotation and left-handed rotation. In the control device and the method according to the invention, the advancing of the camshaft is achieved by a drive in the running direction of the camshaft and the retarding is achieved by a braking device. It has been shown to be especially advantageous if an electric motor in two quadrant mode is used as the drive, which may then also be used as the braking device. Such a control device and method are required for setting the control times in internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 7036408
Abstract: A method and apparatus for substantially nullifying vibration and deflection in a single point lens turning lathe having a rapidly reciprocating lens cutting tool and shuttle assembly. The apparatus includes three or more tool shuttles of similar mass mounted for reciprocating movement along respective generally parallel shuttle paths. The shuttles are reciprocally moveable by respective actuators along their respective shuttle paths. The shuttle and tool assemblies are moved by their respective actuators in opposite directions at a rate which causes forces generated by shuttle and tool assemblies moving in one direction to cancel forces arising from the shuttle and tool assembly movement in the opposite direction. Should an odd number of shuttle and tool assemblies be used, the amount of force generated by the mass moving in one direction may be compensated by having a different rate of movement, and hence a different stroke length from the mass moving in the opposite direction.
