Abstract: A sequence of codes are provided for potential assignment to a user in a wireless hybrid time division multiple access (TDMA)/code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. At least one timeslot is selected to support the communication. For each selected timeslot, at least one code is selected. If more than one code is selected, the selected codes are consecutive in the provided codes sequence. For at least one of the selected timeslots, an identifier of a first and last code of the selected consecutive codes is signaled. The user receives the signaled identifier and uses the selected consecutive codes, as identified, to support the communication.

Abstract: A particular cell of a hybrid time division multiple access/code division multiple access communication system has a base station and a plurality of user requirements. Timeslots having unacceptable interference for the uplink are estimated. Timeslots having unacceptable interference for the downlink are estimated. An availability list is produced. The availability list indicates available uplink and downlink timeslots having acceptable interference levels. Uplink and downlink timeslots are assigned using the availability list.
Abstract: A manufacturing apparatus and method of a fiber coupler is provided. A movable electric arc is employed to fuse more than two stacked fibers for manufacturing a fiber coupler having a small size and good environment stability. It is advantageous that the fiber coupler can be used in a SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) communication system, and the method also be used to manufacture the all-fiber CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) multiplexer which covers the E-band wavelengths and the sub-components of the OADM (Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer). And, all these functions are difficult to be achieved by the conventional techniques.

Abstract: A wireless communication method and antenna system for determining the direction of arrival (DOA) of received signals in azimuth and elevation, (i.e., in three dimensions), to form a beam for transmitting and receiving signals. The system includes two antenna arrays, each having a plurality of antenna elements, two first stage multi-mode-port matrices, at least one second stage multi-mode-port matrix, an azimuth phase detector, an elevation amplitude detector, a plurality of phase shifters and a transceiver. The antenna arrays and the first stage multi-mode-port matrices form a plurality of orthogonal omni-directional modes. Each of the modes has a characteristic phase set. Two of the modes' phases are used to determine DOA in azimuth. The second stage multi-mode-port matrix forms a sum-mode and a difference-mode used to determine the DOA of the received signals in elevation. A beam is formed in the direction of the received signals by adjusting the phase shifters.

Abstract: Systems and methods for optimizing the efficiency of each of a plurality of power amplifiers that amplify a corresponding one of a plurality of radio frequency signals for transmission by a corresponding one of a plurality of antennas. Using transmit beamforming, the power of each amplified signal output by the power amplifiers may not be the same for all the power amplifiers, and may vary with changes in the communication channel between the transmitting device and receiving device. Each of the plurality of power amplifiers is controlled to operate with one or more operating parameters that optimize the efficiency for an output power level of corresponding ones of the radio frequency signals. By adjusting one or more operating parameters of each power amplifier according to changing requirements (e.g., the destination device and channel conditions), the efficiency of each power amplifier can be optimized.

Abstract: A transmission power level for a user equipment in a wireless time division duplex communication system using code division multiple access is determined. An interference level is measured. A pathloss estimate is determined. A long term average of pathloss estimates is determined. A first weighting factor, ?, is determined by the determined pathloss estimate, producing a weighted pathloss estimate. (1??) is multiplied to the determined long term average of pathloss estimates, producing a weighted long term pathloss estimate. A target signal to interference ratio is provided. The target signal to interference ratio is updated using outer loop power commands. A transmission power level of the user equipment is determined by adding the weighted pathloss estimate to the weighted long term pathloss estimate to the measured interference level to the updated target signal to interference ratio to a constant value.

Abstract: A gold (Au) alloy bonding wire for a semiconductor device is provided. The Au alloy bonding wire is manufactured by adding at least one of polonium (Po), promethium (Pm), thulium (Tm), and boron (B) to high-purity gold of 99.999% or more in an amount of 3–30 parts per million (ppm) by weight and at least one of magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), vanadium (V), molybdenum (Mo), and technetium (Tc) in an amount of 3–30 ppm by weight to the high-purity gold. In the Au alloy bonding wire, high-temperature reliability after ball bonding is not reduced and damage near a ball neck in forming an ultra low loop of the Au alloy bonding wire can be prevented.

Abstract: Resource units are assigned within a cell of a wireless time division duplex communication system using code division multiple access. Each resource units is associated with a time slot and a code. For selected ones of the cell's resource units, the code interference level is measured during that unit's time slot and using that unit's code. The code interference level is compared to a threshold to determine whether that unit has an acceptable code interference level. Resource units are assigned to communications out of the unit's having acceptable interference levels.
Abstract: A self-routing data switching system is disclosed. The data switching system includes a plurality of repetitive switching matrix planes, each of which is electrically connected between a less number of input terminals and a larger number of output terminals, thereby reducing the head-of-line blocking effect. Each switching matrix plane includes a switching element array interconnected between the input ports and the output ports for determining whether the data packet from an input port can be transmitted to a designated output port. The data switching system further includes a plurality of pre-processors to manage the input timing of data packets into the switching matrix array in order to avoid output conflict.
Abstract: Vertical electromagnetic stirring is used to produce low shear, stress, turbulent and chaotic mixing of a liquid material or suspension in a container regardless of the volume or container geometry. Movement of a magnetic stir bar is controlled by multiple magnetic fields. The magnetic fields are produced by a series of sequentially or non-sequentially activated inductor coils which produce asymmetrical stirring dynamics and random motions of the stir bar, causing the liquid material to be gently and effectively mixed throughout the container. Moving the stir bar in random and irregular patterns during the stirring operation creates turbulent and chaotic mixing dynamics. The stir bars used for supporting vertical magnetic stirring are specifically designed to optimize the effectivity of the mixing process by maximizing the length of the stir bar to quickly and gently mix the materials.
