Abstract: A process for fixing dyes impregnated in fine-dimensional synthetic textile substrates in an environmentally safe manner. The process comprises contacting the dyed synthetic substrates with an aqueous solution of a phenol- and formaldehyde-free dye-fixative composition containing a copolymer ofa) 1.0 to about 20 percent by weight of vinyl sulfonic acid residues;b) 5 to 20 percent by weight of nonpolar or hydrophobic monomer residues; andc) 60 to about 94 percent by weight of hydrophilic ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid residues, the copolymers having a weight average molecular weight of from about 1,500 to about 15,000. The contacting step is for a time sufficient so that the dye-fixative composition is absorbed by the fabric.

Abstract: Compositions and methods relating to cementitious compositions are provided. The use of a blend of a rosin and a tannin to entrain air into cementitious compositions is provided. A blend of a rosin and a tannin in a weight ratio of about 1:1.22 to about 1:1.86 are added to a wet cementitious composition at levels of less than 1% by weight based on the weight of the cement and air is mixed into the cement. The resulting cement will contain, e.g. 5% to 10% by volume air which improves the resistance of the set cement to freeze damage. Also provided is a method of entraining air into a cementitious composition which employs such a blend.
Abstract: Pure, substantially neutral, low-volatile organic compounds including reactive double bonds are advantageously isolated from a liquid feedstock which contains said compounds in combination with acidic reaction components or auxiliary materials by (i) adding to the feedstock, as neutralizing agents, finely powdered oxides, carbonates and/or hydroxides of the alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals; (ii) adding, at the same time as the addition of the neutralizing agents or thereafter, a limited amount of water to the mixture of feedstock and neutralizing agents; (iii) mechanically mixing the liquid and solid mixture thus formed for at least a few minutes; (iv) distilling off water from the hot reaction mixture under reduced pressure; and (v) removal from the liquid product of the solid phase now present. Pure products which even without distillation exhibit low residual acid values in combination with low color values result.
Abstract: A flexible packaging printing ink is formulated from a resin binder (e.g. an alcohol soluble polyamide or a water-dispersible polyacrylate), pigment, solvent (e.g. a lower alkanol or water), and an alkyl polyglycoside surfactant. Related methods, compositions and articles are also provided. A method of preparing a polyamide resin by condensing a dibasic acid mixture with a diamine mixture and melt blending the resin with an alkyl polyglycoside is also provided. These polymers are particularly useful as the binder for a flexible packaging laminating ink composition.

Abstract: The aim of the invention is to improve the storage stability and flow and pumping characteristics of liquid alkylglycoside preparations by adding the minimum amounts of non-alkylglycosidic active substances, so that, owing to the increase ease with which they can be handled, the preparations can be used in the manufacture of washing and cleaning agents. This has been achieved by the use of aqueous mixtures consisting essentially of: 20 to 60% by weight of an alkylglycoside of the formula R.sup.1 --O(G).sub.n, in which R.sup.1 is an alkyl group with 8 to 22 C-atoms, G is a glycose unit and n is a number between 1 and 10; 0.1 to 3% by weight of a sulphate-type or sulphonate-type anionic surfactant selected from the group comprising alkyl sulphates, ether sulphates, alkanesulphonates, .alpha.

Abstract: A process for the production of pourable, free-flowing granules which are suitable for use as wetting agents, detergents or cleaning products from aqueous solutions or suspensions of such materials in a fluidized-bed spray granulation apparatus employing a hot fluidizing gas. The aqueous selections or suspensions are dried with superheated steam as the fluidizing and drying gas wherein the drying step is carried out in a closed-loop system comprising a steam circuit from which the water evaporated from the aqueous solutions or suspensions of starting materials is removed as a partial stream and the thermal energy released is returned to the steam circuit. The granules are discharged from the granulation apparatus before they can be damaged by heat.

Abstract: Moisture-curing polyamides containing reactive alkoxysilane groups and a process for their preparation are provided. The reactive alkoxysilane groups contain organic groups which are not reactive during the production process, the intended application or the curing process. These moisture-curing polyamides have low melt viscosities and are useful as sealing compounds, hotmelt adhesives and encapsulating materials.
Abstract: An improvement in the process of preparation of an alkylpolyglycoside containing a long chain alkyl group of about 10 carbon atoms or more by reaction of a saccharide and a long chain alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst, particularly an improvement in the process to inhibit or minimize condenser fouling during the processing either in the removal of water from the reactor to promote completion of the reaction or in subsequent processing of the reaction product stream wherein the stream is heated at elevated temperatures and vacuum to remove excess alcohol and residual water, or water introduced into the process stream by steam ejectors in an evaporator, after leaving the reactor. The improvement includes the addition of an alcohol having a carbon chain of a number less than the carbon chain of the alkyl group of the alkylpolyglycoside product either along with the reactant alcohol to produce the polyglycoside, or to the product stream at evaporation of the excess alcohol and residual water.
