  • Patent number: 5085789
Abstract: A ferrofluid composition is defined by fine particles of ferromagnetic material, a liquid carrier for dispersing the ferromagnetic material and a surfactant or surfactants acting as a dispersant. The surfactant is required to have such relation to the carrier that the surfactant has, as its hydrophobic group portion, a structure equivalent to the carrier, and the carrier is selected to be either an alkylpolyphenyl ether oil, an alkylnaphthalene oil or both. By virtue of this structural feature, fine ferromagnetic particles are uniformly and stably dispersed throughout the carrier which has low viscosity and is thermally very stable.

  • Patent number: 5080956
Abstract: The laminated mat of the present invention is suitable for protecting a surface from liquid spills. The mat includes a means for retaining the spills within the laminated mat; a means for channeling the spills throughout the laminated mat; and a means for absorbing the channeled spills. The retained means comprises a sheet of nonporous plastic material. The nonporous sheet is preferably a cushioning, bubble-pack of polyeyhelene and nylon. The channeling means is the bumpy bubble-pack surface. The absorbing means comprises an absorbent sheet, which absorbs the liquid spills that are retained on the nonporous sheet. The nonporous sheet is adhered to the absorbent sheet by a heat bonding process, whereby a polytube heat sealer seals the perimeter of the absorbent sheet to the nonporous sheet. The absorbent material may also be folded several times, and adhered to itself to form an absorbent roll.

  • Patent number: 5080164
Abstract: During a heat treatment in continuous flow of a product mixture consisting of a liquid containing solid particulates, the mixture is heated to a certain desired temperature in one or more heat exchange sections, held at this temperature in a heat-holding section for a certain time, and then cooled to the desired end temperature in one or more heat exchange sections. The residence time of the solid particulates in the heat-holding section is regulated separately and independently of the residence time of the liquid in the heat-holding section, while the solid particulates are constantly flowed round by the liquid. If there are solid particulates of various sizes in the liquid, the residence time of the various size fractions of solid particulates is regulated separately depending on the size of the solid particulates in a particular fraction.

  • Patent number: 5057288
Abstract: A device for sterilizing products packed in cylindrical containers, includes an elongate, essentially cylindrical housing and an essentially cylindrical rotor located therein which can be driven via a central shaft. The circumferential wall of the housing is provided on the inside with a helically running, raised rib. The rotor is designed as a cage having a plurality of rings placed behind each other, the center line of which coincides with the axis of the rotor, and a plurality of raised ribs fastened to the circumference of the rings parallel to the axis of the rotor. The outer edge of the ribs on the rotor is located near the inner edge of the helically running rib on the inner wall of the housing so that spaces are formed between the ribs for receiving the cylindrical containers. Within the rotor between neighboring rings bracing elements in the form of pipes are provided to reinforce the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5054012
Abstract: A sound reproducing device is disclosed in which an index tracking portion formed on a record disc consists of a notch on the continuous flange of rotational periphery of a record disc unit. A center pin of the device is normally urged outside of a casing by a spring which also urges an index setting arm with a push button type index setting rotary knob supported on the tip end of said center pin. An index setting portion consists of a plurality of openings formed in the casing and arranged along the rotational plane of said record disc unit. The index setting arm has a resilient engaging hook on its lower tip end, the engaging hook directed toward the rotational cetner of the record disc unit. The engaging hook engages with the flange of the record disc unit where a specific index setting portion is selected by rotation of the push button type index setting knob. Pushing the index setting knob down makes the engaging hook pass through an index setting openings.
