  • Patent number: 5268924
Abstract: A refractory is laid on a base plate provided with a connector for the connection of a power source apparatus. Many electrode pins are inserted through the refractory and fixed in the base plate at their lower ends. The base plate is made of a steel upper plate member and a copper lower plate member overlapped one on the other and the lower end portions of the many electrode pins are electrically connected to the lower plate member through the upper plate member. When a DC electric arc furnace is operated, the electric current supplied to the connector reaches all the electrode pins mainly through the lower plate member in the base plate and flows from there homogeneously through the pins into the molten metal pool in the furnace.

  • Patent number: 5253343
Abstract: A method for the management of a memory of message or similar information in a station of a data transmission network, having a bus arbitrator governing the access, to the bus, by the different stations, wherein the emission of messages by a station implies the sending, to the arbitrator, of a corresponding request and the storage, by this arbitrator, with the order being preserved, of all the requests received by the station, then subsequently the sending, by the arbitrator, towards the station considered, of permission to emit. The method comprises steps of the storage, successively in the memory, of the pieces of information to be emitted, with their order being preserved, the modification, when a request is accepted by the arbitrator, of the value of an index of access to said memory and the emission, whenever permission to emit is received by the arbitrator, of the information designated by an indicator indexed by said index. Also disclosed is a station to implement the method.

  • Patent number: 5249268
Abstract: The process disclosed is appliable to transmission of data of the multiplexed series type between entities capable of emitting or receiving data, to or from the line. Each entity connected to the line can access all the data flowing in the line, and all the exchanged data are modeled by a distributed data base which is updated and maintianed by the fact that each entity stores and updates a local copy of the corresponding useful part of the data base it contains. Each time an entity is placed in service, a coherence check is carried out to ensure that the emitting and consuming entities interpret data in the same way. The coherence check is carried out by a protocol without prior contact or acknowledgement.

  • Patent number: 5245722
Abstract: The method for washing articles consists in introducing large elements into the machine drum with the articles to be treated, the elements having a flattened shape with rounded edges. Increasing the number of large elements and/or addition of an enzyme complex and/or a powder having similar properties and/or a material such a pumice results in premature (but controlled) wear of the articles to be treated. The invention considerably reduces the quantity of detergent products required for washing.

  • Patent number: 5238375
Abstract: A pressure molding machine for molding various types of stepped articles having, a nest of ram adapters receiving thereon pressure rams and a common base support having cylindrical walls positioned coaxially. The end faces of the walls are at the same level for receiving thereon base ends of the ram adapters, and a nest of movable frames each operated by a pressure cylinder. The movable frames move along guide channels provided in the cylindrical walls of the common base support for operating the ram adapters. Total length and total weight of the machine can be minimized, a die-set is easy for manufacturing, mounting and exchanging, and costs for the equipment can also be minimized.

  • Patent number: 5231245
Abstract: The invention relates to a new method of using explosives. In the past it was the practice to use the shock wave front or the pressure pulse, or both, generated by a detonated explosive mass to directly affect a target or to deform and drive a solids element against the target. In the method proposed by the present invention the explosive mass (11) and a compressible focussing means (12) are supported in a liquid medium. The focussing means (12) lie between the explosive mass and the target (T) and is spaced therefrom by liquid medium. The compressible focussing means (12) may comprise a compressible solids material or a gas volume. When the explosive mass (11) is detonated the pressure pulse, and the liquid displaced by the gas bubble generated by the detonation, serve to collapse the focussing means (12), generating high pressure liquid flows directed towards the target (T).

  • Patent number: 5218521
Abstract: A converter circuit supplied with a pulsed current by a primary source is protected against overload by producing a first voltage representing the product of the mean pulsed current and a first duty factor and a second voltage representing the product of the maximum wanted power and a second duty factor. The first and second voltages are compared and the output power of the converter is limited if the first voltage becomes greater than the second. The invention finds a particular application in regulated voltage power supplies which must be kept within acceptable operating limits.

  • Patent number: 5204873
Abstract: Two DC electric arc furnaces are provided side by side. The both DC electric arc furnaces are connected by a duct. Each of two power source apparatuses is mounted near and associated with each of the DC electric arc furnaces. The anodes of the both power source apparatuses are mutually connected by an anode cable and the cathodes of the apparatuses by a cathode cable. The anodes and the cathodes of the both DC elecric furnaces are connected to the anode cable and the cathode cable, respectively, via a connection circuit adapted to supply electric power alternately to either of the DC electric arc furnaces. When a raw material is molten in one of the DC electric arc furnaces, electric power is supplied by the both power source apparatuses to this DC electric arc furance. The exhaust gas at a high temperature produced in this DC electric arc furnace is sent to the other DC electric arc furnace through the duct and preheats another raw material charged there beforehand.
