  • Patent number: 4813919
Abstract: A toothed belt and method of manufacturing the same wherein the opposed ends of a tooth covering fabric are stitched with an interposed rigid element disposed within the stitching. The rigid element is used to accurately locate the joint of the fabric with respect to the tooth molding groove, at least during a subsequent tensile cord winding step which normally tends to displace the fabic joint. The joint may be accurately located as desired with respect to the mandrel or mold. Different structure for holding the ends of the rigid element are disclosed. The rigid element may be removed prior to the rubber vulcanization step during which step the wrapped tensile cord effectively maintains the fabric joint at the desired location.

  • Patent number: 4809629
Abstract: A sail rig for a wind propelled vehicle that has a deck surface includes a support on the vehicle providing a pivot axis generally normal to the deck surface, a boom that has a proximal end pivoted on the support for 360 degree rotation about the pivot axis and a distal end with an upwardly extending sail mounting arm. A lightweight sail frame is pivoted on an upper end of the mounting arm to turn about a rotational axis between a first nearly upright position and a neutral position substantially parallel to the deck surface, and a sail has its periphery fixedly secured to the sail frame so that it turns about said rotational axis between said first position and said neutral position. The location of the sail frame relative to said rotational axis, and the structure and shape of the sail frame and the sail S are so coordinated that the sail frame and sail are urged by gravity to said first position and tend to be moved toward said neutral position by wind pressure on the sail.

  • Patent number: 4808092
Abstract: The pump head liner of a small-size precision reciprocating metering pump, which has its application particularly in High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), is made of transparent material, preferably of synthetic sapphire or monocrystalline zirconium oxide. A pump head casing is designed such that a pump head liner is visually accessible. Cartridge-type check valve units abut onto the pump head liner on the one side, and onto a connecting adapter piece featuring an elbow liquid duct on the other. Pre-loading pressure for liquid sealing is exerted onto the connecting adapter piece by means of a compression screw which is secured in a clamp bracket or L-shaped angled clamping piece. The cartridge-type check valve units can be composed of transparent components and thereby are visually accessible.

  • Patent number: 4807827
Abstract: An improvement in a bait cast reel of the type having a line-carrying spool, a rotatable crank handle with an associated crank shaft for imparting rotation to the spool to wind line thereon, a line guide, and a worm bear operable in response to rotation of the crank shaft for causing reciprocative movement of the line guide across the spool as the spool is rotated to thereby evenly distribute line on the spool. The improvement is a drive pulley element that follows rotation of the crank shaft and frictionally engages a shaft carrying the worm gear to impart rotation thereto. Slippage can occur between the drive element and the worm gear shaft when a predetermined resistance to rotation of the worm gear shaft is encountered, i.e. when a user's finger jams the line guide.

  • Patent number: 4805647
Abstract: According to the invention, structure is provided for interconnecting a timer mechanism and dispensing structure associated with a dishwashing apparatus. The timer mechanism has a cam with an associated follower with a free end that is engageable with a portion of an actuating member. In the operating cycle, motion is transmitted from the follower through the actuating member. In a given cycle, the actuating member and follower move in a prescribed path in one direction and retrace the path in a direction opposite to the one direction. Structure is provided to block the actuating member at its extreme position of travel in the one direction and to progressively adjustably interconnect the follower and actuating member as they are moved relative to each other. By so doing, the cam follower can be moved through its path by a manual control knob and engaged with the actuating member, that is blocked at its extreme position of travel in the one direction.

  • Patent number: 4805691
Abstract: A substrate with a heat producing electronic component is mounted directly on a heat dissipating structure. The heat dissipating structure has a closed chamber with adjacent condenser and evaporator sections and contains a supply of liquid cooling fluid with a predetermined vaporization temperature. The evaporator section is in heat transfer relation with the substrate and the electronic component thereon. A plurality of channels are strategically arranged in the surfaces bounding the chamber to move the cooling fluid by capillary action in a predetermined path between the condenser and evaporator sections in heat exchange relationship over the chamber walls to maintain the substrate at an acceptable temperature. A heat sink, in heat exchange relationship with the condenser section of the heat dissipating structure, maintains a temperature differential between the evaporator and condenser sections and assures that the condenser section is cooled sufficiently to condense the cooling fluid.

  • Patent number: 4805380
Abstract: A rotary packaging machine advances carton sleeves stepwise through a series of stations at which various operations are performed in relation to the sleeves. At certain earlier ones of the stations operations are performed upon the bottoms of the sleeves at a desired common level.
