  • Patent number: 4804116
Abstract: A valve which comprises a closure member adapted for attachment to the container. The closure member defines an aperture therein. A hollow grommet of flexible material having a flange portion to one side of the closure member and a tubular portion extends through the aperture in the closure member. A valve rod having at one end a flange engaged with the underside of the flange of the grommet and a hollow stem portion extending through the grommet to protrude therefrom such that upon tilting of the valve rod relative to the closure member the flange of the valve rod parts from the underside of the flange of the grommet to uncover a radial hole in the stem portion through which pressurized fluid can pass into the hollow stem portion for dispensing. A gallery or annular passageway is provided in between the grommet and flange of the valve rod and arranged to admit pressurizing gas through the closure member into the container when the valve rod is tilted.

  • Patent number: 4802817
Abstract: A centrifugal pump having a self-regulating impeller discharge shutter which controls the size of flow passages from the pump impeller to the volute according to the flow demand on the pump. When the pump is operating at the design flow rate, the flow passages can be nearly fully open and, when there is a lesser demand, the area of the flow passages can be correspondingly reduced to improve stability and minimize the temperature rise within the pump. The position of the impeller discharge shutter is automatically controlled by exposure to the static pressure at the tip of the impeller and the pressure in the volute which exert oppositely-acting forces on the impeller discharge shutter.

  • Patent number: 4802799
Abstract: A drill bit tip construction wherein the cutting edge at the tip of the drill bit is arranged to cause fragmentation of the chips being removed from the work metal during the drilling operation. The cutting edge of the drill bit at the drilling tip is made to be wavy and, in the illustrated embodiment, is defined by a plurality of segmentally cylindrical grooves extending parallel to the longitudinal extent of the flutes at the tip. In the illustrated embodiment, the grooves have a radius of approximately 0.05" and a length substantially greater than the radius to permit repeated resharpening of the drill bit with resultant reforming of the desired wavy cutting edge in the resharpened tip. In the illustrated embodiment, the cutting edge is formed in an insert secured as by brazing in a diametric slot at the tip. The insert may be formed of a carbide material having optimum cutting characteristics. The grooves are provided in the insert by use of an electric discharge wire cutting machine.

  • Patent number: 4802877
Abstract: A method of tying a balloon having an inflatable bulb bounding a chamber, a flexible neck with a passageway in communication with the chamber, and a filling opening in the neck through which a fluid can be directed into the neck passageway and inflation chamber. The method contemplates the steps of providing a device with a housing having first and second elongate legs projecting therefrom in substantially parallel alignment, placing the neck of the balloon between the first and second legs, situating a length of flexible line across the neck in lengthwise alignment with and adjacent to one of the legs, twisting the legs about their length to thereby roll the balloon neck against itself and surround the line, and tying the line against itself so that the neck is embraced by the line. The invention is also concerned with a hand tool device for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4800931
Abstract: According to the invention, a single structure is provided to both produce pressure in and evacuate a space. The inventive device has a barrel with a chamber and separate vacuum and pressure passageways in communication with the chamber. A check valve is mounted in the vacuum passageway to permit flow of air into the chamber through the vacuum passageway but to prohibit flow out of the chamber through the vacuum passageway. A second check valve is mounted in the pressure passageway to permit flow of air out of the chamber through the pressure passageway but to prohibit passage of air through the passageway into the chamber. A plunger is movably mounted in the chamber to selectively develop pressure in the chamber and pressure passageway upon being moved in a first direction and to draw air from the chamber and evacuate the vacuum passageway upon being moved opposite to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 4801181
Abstract: A refrigerator cabinet includes an outer shell having a transverse flange terminating in a channel generally parallel with the flange and opening transversely inwardly. A liner is disposed within the shell and defines a storage space which is divided into two compartments by a compartment separator. A center rail defines a forward wall for the separator. A pair of brackets each has a first portion shaped to conform to the channel and a second portion shaped to conform to ends of the center rail. An adhesive material is disposed in opposite sides of the channel adjacent the compartment separator and adheres the brackets to the cabinet. Fasteners are provided for securing brackets to the opposite ends of the center rail. Accordingly, a refrigerator cabinet is provided which utilizes an adhesive as the sole means for retaining the center rail brackets to the cabinet structure.
