  • Patent number: 4591565
Abstract: Thermal stability of microbial rennet is reduced by treatment of the rennet in aqueous medium with aliphatic or inorganic peroxy acids or salts thereof. Preferably, the microbial rennet is Mucor Miehei rennet and the peroxy acid is a lower aliphatic peroxy acid such as peracetic acid. The thermally destabilized microbial rennet is inactivated when whey containing the rennet is pasteurized.

  • Patent number: 4589334
Abstract: In a method for treating straw placed in a processing chamber (6) with gaseous ammonia, the gaseous ammonia is supplied in aqueous solution (2) and liberated by heating with a heater (5) to circulate within the straw in the processing chamber. By supplying the ammonia in solution, it is possible to use an ammonia source in the form of solutions readily available on most markets, even in less technically developed countries. When the surplus ammonia is removed from the straw (FIG. 3), it is washed out of the air/gas mixture leaving the processing chamber by the use of a scrubber (8) so that no or substantially no ammonia is discharged to atmosphere. The liquid from the scrubber (8) is kept in reservoirs (14,15) for use in treating the next batch of straw, or drained off to liquid manure as shown.

  • Patent number: 4589887
Abstract: Fuel briquettes on the basis of solid organic combustible material, notably biomass material such as straw or other agricultural, horticultural and silvicultural waste or organic household waste, or fine particle industrial waste obtain a satisfactory storing and transporting quality when the binder therein is 3-50% by weight of fly ash coke. Fly ash coke is the carbon rich fraction separated from the mineral components of fly ash, preferably by flotation under specified conditions. The briquettes are otherwise prepared in briquette presses according to the teachings of the art. Preferably there is used a nozzle pressure for the extrusion of 70-100 kg/cm.sup.2 and it is advantageous to preheat the raw materials to 50.degree.-70.degree. C. before conveying them to the briquette press.

  • Patent number: 4586828
Abstract: The invention relates to measuring apparatus for a refrigeration system for detecting a liquid component in refrigerant leaving the evaporator of the system through a suction conduit associated with a heating element heating the tube wall. The measuring apparatus includes a first temperature measuring sensor in thermal contact with the suction conduit located just sufficiently away from the heating element so as to be substantially unaffected by the heating element. A second temperature measuring reference sensor is in thermal contact with the suction conduit an optimum distance downstream from said heating element to provide a reference temperature indicative of the dry temperature of the refrigerant.

  • Patent number: 4585165
Abstract: The invention relates to a hot water heating system which includes individually operated radiators arranged in parallel. A heat exchanger and a pump supply hot water to the radiators. Control apparatus is included for reducing the on and off switching frequences. The control apparatus includes an integrator which outputs a value which is proportional to the difference between a reference temperature and the temperature at the output of the heat exchanger. The integrator value is fed to a hysteresis switch which switches the heat exchanger on and off when the integrator value reaches the opposite limits of the hysteresis switch.

  • Patent number: 4585208
Abstract: The invention relates to a thermostatic type valve for a hot water radiator. The valve has an adjustable insert for changing the throttle setting of the valve. An intermediate setting element has a spline connection with the insert to facilitate turning of the insert. An adjusting ring likewise has a spline connection with the setting element and also a spline connection with the valve housing which facilitates securing the intermediate setting element to the housing. The adjusting ring is axially moveable relative to the valve housing by reason of the spline connection therewith to permit disengagement therefrom and allow turning of the setting element and the adjustable throttle setting insert to which it is nonrotatably connected by the first referred to spline connection.

  • Patent number: 4582087
Abstract: The invention relates to a rotary slide valve subassembly for a hydrostatic steering unit. The slide valve subassembly includes two concentric sleeves having near one end a plurality of circumferentially distributed axially extending slots which, in the neutral position, create a short circuit between the supply and discharge sides. The slots subdivide the corresponding sleeve sections into stays extending from the main sleeve sections. A construction is provided to avoid jamming of the sleeves by joining the stays of each sleeve section with a closed ring member and undercutting the inside diameter of the stays of the inner sleeve section to cause weakening thereof relative to the stays of the outer sleeve section.

  • Patent number: 4582260
Abstract: A vertical roller mill has a grinding table (1), rollers (3) and a separator (6) for separating ground material, which is conveyed to the separator in an air stream supplied through an inlet (7), into a fine fraction, which passes out through an outlet (8), and a coarse fraction which is returned for further grinding through an outlet (10). A part of the ground material is conveyed through an outlet (11) to a second separator (13), where it is separated from the air and returned for further grinding via an outlet (14) and an inlet (9) for fresh material to the mill. This provides a flatter grain size distribution curve in the finish ground material.

  • Patent number: 4581778
Abstract: A mechanism for raising and lowering a seat, especially designed for handicapped persons, comprises two supporting arms (A', B') which are both at one of their ends coupled to the seat (E), at the front and rear edge thereof, respectively. At their other end, the supporting arms (A', B') cooperate with a fixed point (1', 2') each. At least one of the supporting arms is coupled to a driving member and the two supporting arms (A', B') are interconnected at a point between their ends. With a view to obtaining a space-saving but all the same stable mechanism allowing a physiologically correct trajectory of the seat during its raising and lowering, the supporting arms (A', B') are directly pivotally interconnected (D), and one of the supporting arms cooperates with the fixed point in such a manner that it is displaceable in relation to said point.

  • Patent number: 4580580
Abstract: In the production of wrappers or binders of different sizes from tobacco leaves, these leaves are at first divided into strip pieces that are transferred to a conveyor section and by means of a scanner are scanned to ascertain usable areas with preference from the largest to the smallest size. The strip pieces cut out of the same halves of tobacco leaves (right and left sides) are advanced on a further conveyor section consisting of separate, parallel belts, from which strip pieces of equally large, usable areas are collected in the same bobbin, in which they are oriented parallel to the axis of the bobbin and with their usable areas aligned in the longitudinal direction of the bobbin web. The cutting of nondefective final wrappers or binders is subsequently carried out in a separate operation and without further sorting. This provides for obtaining an optimum output from the tobacco leaves by using an apparatus of non-complicated design.

  • Patent number: 4580490
Abstract: An apparatus for producing units fit for packing, preferably of a cheese product of the type cheese-base, is adapted to be connected to a cheese-base production system from which the cheese-base is pressed out in a continuous flow. The apparatus comprises an accumulating pipe connectable to the discharge pipe of the cheese-base production system. This accumulation pipe expands in the flow direction and ends in a cylindrical pipe section of a first greater sectional area. Subsequently, the cylindrical pipe section of the accumulating pipe is connected to a cylindrical extrusion pipe of a second smaller sectional area. At the discharge end of the extrusion pipe, a cutting device is provided for cutting desired lengths of the extrudate. This apparatus allows production of cheese-base units in a suitable size fit for further handling and transport.
