  • Patent number: 4662780
Abstract: A method for docking of a floating structure, e.g. a concrete offshore platform. According to a first embodiment, a pit (3) separated from the sea by means of sand or gravel deposits (1; 4) is excavated, whereupon the structure (7) is erected entirely or partly in the pit (3). The depth of the pit (3) is increased by building the upper edge of the pit upwards to an upper level, whereupon the pit is filled with water (10) in order for the structure to become floating. The deposits (12) situated at the bottom of the pit (3) and under the structure (7) are next removed by means of suitable techniques in order to lower the bottom of the pit (3) to a lowest level, while the level (11) of the water (10) in the pit (3) is maintained. Then the level of the water (10) is lowered to a lower level (14) corresponding to the level of the sea (2) on the outside and the dike ( 4; 8) separating the pit from the sea is removed, whereupon the structure may be floated away from the pit.

  • Patent number: 4661817
Abstract: A method and device for measuring the distance to an object, particularly the distance to the surface (17) of a liquid in a container (15). An antenna (11) is arranged a distance from and aimed against the surface, the antenna being connected to a measuring unit (12), a channel unit (13) and a control unit (14). A microwave signal with a predetermined frequency is generated in the measuring unit (12), of which a part is utilized as a reference signal, while a further part is input to the antenna (11) and transmitted against the surface (17). From the reflected signal received by the antenna and supplied to the measuring unit (12) and the reference signal, a function of the antenna input reflection coefficient is determined. This function is adapted to the current condition. A fourier transformation of a set of values of this function at a certain set of measuring frequencies is made, from which the distance to the surface is calculated.

  • Patent number: 4655981
Abstract: In order to produce a decorative pattern on the surface of a layer of material in a soft plastic condition, the surface is whipped by the free end portions of a plurality of flexible thread-like members. The whipping action provides random depressions in the surface. The thread-like members are preferably fastened to the peripheral surface of a rotatable body which is spaced from the surface to be treated at a distance which is substantially smaller than the length of the thread-like members, and the surface to be treated is moved in relation to the rotatable body while this body is rotated. By this whipping action it is possible to make surface patterns imitating a slaty surface or the surface of other natural materials. Such decorative surfaces may be made on layers of materials which are cut into plates or blocks for use as building materials after firing, setting or hardening of the material. As an example, the decorative pattern or structure may be made on plates to be used as roofing plates.

A heat medium which is used in a second heat treatment apparatus (2), which follows a first heat treatment apparatus (1), consists of uncontaminated water/steam which is circulated in a closed circuit, that is to say separated from the heat medium of the first apparatus and from the treatment material of the second apparatus. The closed circuit extends from heat exchanger surfaces, which are supplied with heat energy from exhaust gas/exhaust steam from the first apparatus (1), via heat surfaces of the second apparatus (2) back to said heat exchanger surfaces. The closed circuit includes one or more steam compressor(s) (17) in order to bring in a manner known per se the heat medium of the circuit up to the process steam pressure before it is supplied to the heat surfaces of the second apparatus (2).
