Abstract: A copier is designed to copy negatives of different sizes onto copying material of different widths. The negatives and copying material are supplied from rolls. The copier includes the following manually controlled components: (i) a set of interchangeable film guides which are used at a scanning station and are slotted to permit photoelectric scanning of the negatives; (ii) a set of interchangeable masks for masking the negatives during copying; (iii) a set of light shafts for illuminating the negatives during copying; and (iv) a movable guide unit for the copying material.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for curtain coating a flexible web by coating the curtain at a width wider than the width of the web. The margins of the web are preserved from being coated by conveying the web in the coating zone over a web supporting roller than does not support the web margins, and by deflecting the unsupported web margins downwardly by means of curtain interceptors that remain in contact with the web under the elastic recovery forces in the web material.
Abstract: Apparatus for unwinding exposed customer roll films from reels immediately upon expulsion of reels from their cartridges has a composite housing which can be opened up at an unwinding station to receive a reel in the open position and to thereupon close preparatory to unwinding of the film by means of a friction wheel which is movable sideways into engagement with the outermost film convolution between the flanges of the reel at the unwinding station. A stripping device is adjacent to the inlet of a channel which is defined for the roll film by the housing in closed position, and the stripping device engages and directs the leader of the film into the channel as soon as the reel starts to rotate under the action of the friction wheel. The friction wheel and the stripping device are disposed diametrically opposite each other, and the length of the housing is less than the distance between the flanges of the reel at the unwinding station.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus wherein wedge print density value comparisons made with the aid of a photoelectric densitometer give indications of the developing activity of a photographic developer which are independent of the temperature of the photodetector.
Abstract: A web of photographic paper is trained over several rollers so that it can be advanced along a meandering path through successive chambers in a developing machine. At least one of the rollers is mounted on a driven shaft with the interposition of a coupling which engages the shaft with the roller when the tension of the running web which is trained over such roller exceeds a certain value. The roller is normally held against rotation under the action of the web and/or under the action of the bearing which is rotatable on the shaft and yieldably maintains the roller in a position of coaxiality with the shaft. A braking device for holding the roller against rotation has a first plastic ring which is rotatably mounted on the shaft and is connected to or made integral with the bearing for the roller, and a second plastic ring which surrounds and is in frictional engagement with the first ring. The second ring is held against rotation with the first ring by a partition or by another stationary part of the machine.

Abstract: Photographic recording materials containing a silver halide emulsion in which the grains have zones of differing iodide content provide improved sensitometric results.
Abstract: A method of producing toner-developed electrostatic images involving the repetitive performance of a copying cycle comprising the steps of corona charging a photoconductive layer at a determined voltage level, information-wise photo-exposing said charged photoconductive layer, developing the exposed photoconductor with charged toner particles to a toner image, transferring the applied toner image to a receptor, and restoring the photoconductive layer to a rest potential for the next cycle; and between successive copying cycles, maintaining said photoconductor in the dark for a randomly varying time period. The number of performed copying cycles in each series is registered by electronic means and an output signal is generated; the period of time between series that the photoconductor is maintained in the dark is measured and a corresponding output signal is generated.

Abstract: An X-ray sheet film cassette is assembled of a bottom wall, side walls and a cover hinged to an upper part of one side wall. The lower part of the one side wall adjoining the bottom wall is reduced in thickness to form an abutment for the sheet film. The inner surface of the cover is provided with a resilient pressing pad which during the closing of the cover urges the sheet film against the abutment and in the closed condition of the cassette presses the film against the bottom. In this manner, when taking X-ray pictures of a part of patient's body which forms an angle relative to another body part, the unexposed section of the first mentioned body part which is adjacent the other body part, is minimized and well defined in position relative to the other body part.
Abstract: Photographic recording materials which contain a developer substance or a precursor thereof produce better results if in addition they contain a sulphite, a disulphite or a compound capable of releasing sulphite in the photographic material.

Abstract: Photographic processing apparatus with a processing tray for sheets of photographic material, and a container with processing solution, which is mounted in an inverted position on the tray through the intermediary of an appropriate stop which has a first tube through which liquid may flow into the tray, a second tube for the return of the liquid in the container, a third tube for venting which operates as a bird-fountain level control for the processing solution in the tray, and valves for closing said tubes.
Abstract: Successive frames of an exposed and developed customer film are monitored during transport of the film in a first direction, and the information which is gathered during monitoring of discrete frames as well as of the entire film is stored in the memory of a microprocessor. The direction of travel of the film is then reversed and successive or selected frames of the film are copied during intervals between successive stepwise advances of the film in the second direction. Copying light which is used for the making of reproductions of images of the film frames is also used for illumination of film frames during monitoring. A mirror is provided to reflect light to the monitoring unit during travel of the film in the first direction, and such mirror is retracted preparatory to copying which starts with the last monitored frame and proceeds toward the first monitored frame of the film. The film is converted into a growing roll during monitoring of its frames.
