Abstract: Ethylene polymers are produced at pressures between 1000 and 4000 atmospheres and temperatures of from 120.degree. to 300.degree. C in a reaction zone having an 1/d ratio of from 10:1 to 20:1 while shear forces act on the reaction mixture. The ethylene is fed continuously and radially to the reaction zone at a velocity of from 2 to 20 m/sec. The average residence time of the reaction mixture in the reaction zone is from 20 to 90 seconds. The products show a broad molecular weight distribution and are particularly advantageous for use as extruded coatings.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cartridge for a recording medium in tape or strip form and a transport apparatus for use with such a cartridge, both being favorably matched to one another according to the invention. The cartridge consists essentially of a housing which is composed of parts pivotally connected to one another and, in the closed position, completely encloses a roll of tape wound on a hub. In the open position of the cartridge, at least part of the roll of tape is so exposed that the roll can be rotated and the tape or strip scanned on the apparatus. The transport apparatus is provided with appropriately designed means for receiving the cartridge which, when some of its components are pivoted, swings apart the parts of the cartridge, which is placed upon the apparatus in the closed position, and thus opens the cartridge.

Abstract: Disperse dyes of the formula: ##SPC1##In which both R's are alkyl, phenyl or phenalkyl (the radical R bearing other substituents if desired) and X is the radical of a methyleneactive compound. The dyes dye fibers of linear polyesters brilliant greenish yellow to bluish red shades.
Abstract: New and valuable herbicide comprising a composition of 2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethyl-2-(alkoxy, allyloxy or propargyloxy) benzofuran-5-yl-methyl or dimethylamino sulfonate and 1-phenyl-4-amino-5-chloropyridazone-(6).
Abstract: Dyes of the formula: ##SPC1##In whichR, r.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl and one R may also be hydrogen. The dyes are very suitable for dyeing acrylonitrile polymers.
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for the non-destructive measurement of the remanent flux density of magnetic recording media, by recording a specific signal and reproducing the recorded signal by means of two pairs of magnetic recording and playback heads arranged opposite one another and perpendicular to the plane of the recording medium, the ratio of the distance between the individual magnetic heads of each pair of heads to the wavelength of the recorded signal being within a specific range, and the said distance being such that a magnetic recording medium is movable symmetrically between the pair of heads, a common measuring unit being associated with the playback pair. Further features of the device relate to the design of the magnetic recording and playback heads, the measuring unit and the rate at which the particular magnetic recording medium being tested moves between the pairs of heads.

Abstract: Liquid and solid compositions are provided for souring and imparting softness to freshly laundered textile materials. When in the form of a stable homogeneous liquid, the composition may contain a quaternized fatty amide, a quaternized fatty amine, an aqueous emulsion of partially oxidized polyethylene or a fatty amphoteric compound as a softening agent, a water soluble organic acid containing about 1-20 carbon atoms and having a primary ionization constant between 10.sup..sup.-1 and 10.sup..sup.-5 as the souring agent, and water. When in the form of a stable dry solid, the composition may contain a quaternized fatty amide, a quaternized fatty amine or a fatty amphoteric compound as the softening agent, and a dry solid water soluble organic acid containing 2-20 carbon atoms and having a primary ionization constant between 10.sup..sup.-1 and 10.sup..sup.-5 as the souring agent. Stable homogeneous stock solutions are also prepared from the novel liquid or solid compositions of the invention.
