  • Patent number: 7496506
Abstract: Codec structures for achieving two-stage prediction and two-stage noise spectral shaping at the same time, resulting in a Two-Stage Noise Feedback Coding (TSNFC) method. One approach combines two predictors into a single composite predictor; and derives appropriate filters for use in a conventional single-stage NFC codec structure. Another approach duplicates a conventional single-stage NFC codec structure in a nested manner, thereby decoupling the operations of the long-term prediction and long-term noise spectral shaping from the operations of the short-term prediction and short-term noise spectral shaping.

  • Patent number: 7496665
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for indirectly monitoring and controlling at least one media peripheral device in a media exchange network by accessing a media management system (MMS) via a first media peripheral (MP) device (e.g., a TV screen) using a user control device (e.g., a remote control). An operation corresponding to a second media peripheral (MP) device (e.g., a digital camera) may be selected via the MMS using the first MP device and the user control device. The operation is then carried out (i.e., performed) by the second MP device. A status of the second MP device may be selected via the MMS using the first MP device and the user control device. The selected status is then displayed on the first MP device.

  • Patent number: 7496774
Abstract: Reducing power while in standby mode may comprise monitoring for an occurrence of at least one event requiring a transition out of a standby mode while utilizing a lower frequency, less accurate, and low power standby clock signal while operating in the standby mode. After receiving the occurrence of the event, an identity of the received event may be determined. In response to receiving the event, based on the determined identity of the event, a first and/or a second clock signal may be enabled, which has higher frequency and better accuracy and consumes more power than the standby clock signal. If the first and/or second clock signal is enabled, they may be disabled in order to re-enter the standby mode, which utilizes the standby clock signal while in standby mode.

  • Patent number: 7496343
Abstract: A state of a programmable mixer is set during a calibration phase to minimize local oscillator feedthrough. During a calibration phase, inputs to the programmable mixer are set to zero, or to a known state and the local oscillator is set to a calibration frequency. Then, one of a plurality of known calibration states of the programmable mixer is entered and the local oscillator feedthrough is measured. For each of a plurality of operating states an amplified output of the programmable mixer is measured. In one operation, the state of the programmable mixer in which the programmable mixer operates during a next operation phase is the state that produces minimal local oscillator feedthrough. In another operation, operation continues until a state is found that produces a local oscillation feedthrough that meets an operating criteria and that state is used during the next operation phase.

  • Publication number: 20090046769
Abstract: A modem and method for operating same. A receiver circuit of the modem is coupled to receive a continuous analog signal from a communication channel. This analog signal includes both packet and idle information. The receiver circuit monitors the analog signal to detect the presence of idle information. Upon detecting idle information, the receiver circuit enters a standby mode in which the processing requirements of the receiver circuit are reduced. A burst mode protocol is also provided, in which packets of digital information are modulated by a transmitter circuit the modem, thereby converting the packets of digital information into analog signal bursts of discrete duration. These analog signal bursts are transmitted from the transmitter circuit to a telephone line. However, the transmitter circuit does not generate any signals between the analog signal bursts. A receiver circuit monitors the telephone line to detect the analog signal bursts.

  • Publication number: 20090045464
Abstract: An ESD device includes a low doped well connected to a first contact and a diffusion area connected to a second contact. A substrate between the low doped well and the diffusion area has a dopant polarity that is opposite a dopant polarity of the low doped well and the diffusion area. A distance between the low doped well and the diffusion area determines a triggering voltage of the ESD device. A depletion region is formed between the low doped well and the substrate when a reverse bias voltage is applied to the ESD device. A current discharging path is formed between the first contact and the second contact when the depletion region comes in to contact with the diffusion area. The substrate is biased by a connection to the second contact. Alternatively, an additional diffusion area with the same dopant polarity, connected to a third contact, biases the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7492223
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for a highly efficient power amplifier (PA) utilizing dynamic biasing and predistortion are presented. Aspects of the system may include a processor that enables computation of a value of a variable bias component of a bias current based on a bias slope value and an amplitude of an envelope input signal. The processor may enable computation of a value of the bias current based on the selected constant bias current component value and the variable bias current component value. A PA may enable generation of an output signal in response to a generated baseband signal by utilizing the bias current to amplify an amplifier input signal. The bias current may be generated based on the envelope input signal. A feedback signal may be generated based on the output signal, which may be used to predistort a subsequent baseband signal.

  • Patent number: 7492824
Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding and displaying a bitstream, such as, for example, Motorola/GI HITS bitstream, is provided. The method avoids displaying artifacts caused by displaying incompletely decoded pictures after channel acquisition. After the channel acquisition, an entry picture, a P-picture with the refreshed I-slices at the top of the picture, is first displayed with all pixels below the refreshed I-slices zeroed (blacked) out. Then the subsequent P-pictures are displayed with all pixels below their respective refreshed I-slices zeroed out. Once a P-picture has been completely decoded, normal decoding process is started.
