System and method to locate and correct software errors within a protocol stack for wireless devices
Patent number: 7487396Abstract: The present invention provides a method to test a protocol stack operable to be loaded to a wireless terminal. This involves the creation of simulation scripts from prior test case logs associated with a prior test case executed on a physical wireless terminal. When the prior test case is failed on a physical device, the simulation scripts are used to locate and correct errors in protocol stack. The simulation scripts are then stored within and retrieved from a library. These simulations scripts are loaded within a simulation environment within computer systems such as a personal computer. The simulation scripts are executed on the protocol stack within the simulation environment to produce a set of results. These results are then compared to a reference log, wherein a favorable comparison indicates a satisfactory simulation. Should an unfavorable comparison result, the protocol stack may be revised.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2004Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Matthew Cheng -
Patent number: 7486213Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method for increasing resolution and accuracy of an analog to digital converter receiving an input voltage includes dithering a number of digital output values from the analog to digital converter to generate a number of dithered values. The analog to digital converter can be an 8-bit analog to digital converter, for example. The dithered values are then averaged to generate an average dithered value. For example, the dithered values can be averaged using a moving average technique. The average dithered value is then scaled down to generate a scaled value. Thereafter, the scaled value is mapped to a, for example, 10-bit digital output having higher resolution and higher accuracy than the raw 8-bit output of the analog to digital converter. In this example, the resolution of the analog to digital converter is increased by a factor of four.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2007Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Huili Yu, Kunlun Zhu, Xiaohua Xie

Publication number: 20090028187Abstract: A system and method for providing upstream adaptive modulation. Burst parameters associated with a range of data interval usage codes (IUCs) are defined. Each of the data IUCs has a different modulation order and forward error correction (FEC). The SNR and codeword error rate for each satellite modem in the network are monitored. The data IUCs are dynamically assigned to different satellite modems within an upstream channel based on SNR and/or codeword error rate to enable each of the satellite modems in the upstream channel to achieve maximum bandwidth efficiency during upstream data transmissions. Bandwidth requests are received from the satellite modems and granted. The grant includes the assigned data IUC. The data bursts received in the upstream channel are each processed using the parameters from the assigned IUC for each of the satellite modems sending data in the upstream channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2008Publication date: January 29, 2009Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Mark Dale, David L.
