Abstract: The present invention includes an optical transceiver having a fiber module with an optical data input and an electrical data output. The fiber module further includes a signal detect output that indicates the receipt of valid optical data. A physical layer device having a receive input is coupled to the electrical data output through a switch that is controlled by the signal detect output. The switch passes electrical data from the electrical data output of the fiber module to the receive input when the signal detect output indicates the receipt of valid optical data, and does not pass the electrical data when the signal detect output indicates invalid optical data. By using this configuration, the signal detects pins of the physical layer device are eliminated. In another embodiment, the switch is not utilized, and the electrical data output of the transceiver is ac-coupled to the differential receive input of the physical layer device.

  • Patent number: 7477682
Abstract: An apparatus and methods supporting improved echo cancellation in a packet network is disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention may permit a split-band communication system operating in a narrowband mode to provide improved suppression of hybrid echo generated by the conversion of signals from a packet network to a two-wire analog circuit. By detecting the presence of signal characteristics outside of the relatively narrower bandwidth to be communicated, such an embodiment may more accurately detect the occurrence of speech received from a party on a relatively wider bandwidth communication circuit. The accurate detection of speech permits more effective suppression of any hybrid echo remaining after echo cancellation. An embodiment of the present invention may also have application in other systems that detect signals received via a path having a bandwidth greater than that to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7477326
Abstract: Methods and systems for processing television signals are disclosed herein, and may comprise communicating analog and digital intermediate frequency (IF) signals via a single processing path that couples a TV radio frequency (RF) tuner to an IF demodulator and/or to a decoder, that processes said analog and digital IF signals. The analog and digital IF signals may be filtered via a surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, for example. The filtered analog and digital IF signals may be amplified. The amplified filtered analog and digital IF signals may be received. The amplified filtered analog and digital IF signals may be IF demodulated by the IF demodulator to generate an IF demodulated output signal. An audio portion of the IF demodulated output signal may be decoded via a BTSC decoder, for example.

  • Patent number: 7477047
Abstract: Embodiment of the present invention may provide a switching regulator which may be located within an IC. The switching regulator couples to an external power supply, a plurality of configurable control registers, a plurality of default registers, and a multiplexer. The multiplexer is operable to select an input control signal from either the plurality of configurable control registers or the plurality of default control registers as the output control signal to the switching regulator. This default control signal, although not optimal, allows the switching regulator to be configured in a default condition during start up or power down operations and ensures that the switching regulator may provide a stable, although not necessarily optimal, power output to the various components within the IC.

  • Patent number: 7478040
Abstract: A method for adaptive long-term filtering of an audio signal, such as a decoded speech signal. The method includes measuring a smoothed periodicity of an audio signal segment, such as an audio frame, wherein the smoothed periodicity is measured by low-pass filtering an instantaneous periodicity of the audio signal segment. The periodicity of the audio signal segment is then increased in a manner that depends upon whether the smoothed periodicity is less than a predetermined threshold. By utilizing a smoothed periodicity measurement in this fashion, more accurate control of the post-filter is provided as compared to conventional solutions. Additionally, the method includes deriving filters by interpolating between filter responses of adjacent audio signal segments to minimize distortion at segment boundaries.

  • Patent number: 7477897
Abstract: A system and method with which to establish parallel communications between the wireless terminal and the PSTN via a WLAN and an alternative network such as cellular or satellite networks. Once the parallel communications are established, handoff criteria govern seamlessly switching communications between the WLAN and the alternative network in order to avoid any lost or dropped communications. Communications may be serviced between a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) and a wireless terminal. The PBX communicatively couples to a wireless local area network (WLAN). Calls received at the PBX for the wireless terminal are routed to the wireless terminal if the wireless terminal is serviced by the WLAN, otherwise an attempt is made to deliver the call via an alternative network. Should both deliveries fail, the call is delivered to an alternative destination such as voice mail or an operator.

  • Patent number: 7477612
Abstract: A process of discovering a topology of devices on a network is disclosed. A discover frame is sent to nodes in communication with a central processing unit, with the discover frame having an identification list. After a response frame from the nodes is received, the response frame is processed to determine whether a node sending the response frame has an identification value. If the node has the identification value, then a routing table is updated. When the node does not have the identification value, an identification assign frame is sent to the node and an identification assign acknowledgement frame is received from the node.
