  • Patent number: 9282579
Abstract: A user equipment establishes an elevated priority data connection and one or more non-elevated priority data connections. The elevated priority data connection may be an emergency public data network (PDN) connection. The user equipment may determine that one or more deactivation criteria for the emergency PDN connection is satisfied while the emergency PDN connection and at least one non-emergency PDN connection of the user equipment are active. Deactivation criteria may include expiration of a Periodic Tracking Area Update timer. In response, the user equipment may locally deactivate the emergency PDN connection and send a deactivation indication to the operator network.

  • Patent number: 9282328
Abstract: Sample adaptive offset (SAO) in accordance with video coding. SAO filtering may be performed before de-blocking processing (e.g., in accordance with video signal decoding and/or encoding). For example, a receiver and/or decoder communication device may receive signaling from a transmitter and/or encoder communication device that includes various band offsets. Corresponding band indices may be determined via analysis of the received video signal (e.g., received from the transmitter and/or encoder communication device), inferentially without requiring signaling of such band indices from the transmitter and/or encoder communication device. Upon appropriate analysis of one or more largest coding units (LCUs) generated from the video signal to determine a pixel value distribution (e.g., which may be using a histogram in one instance), then based on that pixel value distribution, the band indices are identified and the band offsets applied thereto.

  • Publication number: 20160066290
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for performing timing synchronization via network listening. The system and method can be implemented in a non-synchronized base station to receive Cell-Specific Reference Signals (CRSs) of a synchronized base station during guard periods of special subframes. To allow the non-synchronized base station to receive the CRSs, the non-synchronized base station can configure one or more of its special subframes to have a shorter downlink part than corresponding special subframes of the synchronized base station. The system and method of the present disclosure can use the received CRSs to synchronize the timing of the non-synchronized base station to the timing of the synchronized base station. To prevent a substantial loss in downlink throughput due to the non-synchronized base station using a shorter DwPTS part, tracking can be performed on a once per multiple radio frame basis.

  • Publication number: 20160066131
Abstract: A near field communications (NFC) device is disclosed that is capable of optimizing a gain for received signals. Measurements are made of signals received from an NFC environment and are compared to one or more threshold hold values. Based on the comparison, it is determined whether the measurements indicate underamplification or overamplification. Depending on the results of the analysis, one or more components within the NFC device is adjusted to increase or decrease the gain, respectively. The measurements may be taken during an unloaded baseline state or during loading, and may be compared to previous measurements to estimate their accuracy.

  • Patent number: 9276587
Abstract: A clock generation system provides a low power approach for generating clock signals. The clock generation system may use a free running clock and, at intervals, maintain the accuracy of the free running clock. The free running clock may be the source of other system clocks, such as a 32 KHz clock for system timing and a 13 MHz clock to facilitate audio playback, e.g., MP3 decoding and playback. The clock generation system eliminates the need for two different crystal oscillators and a complex PLL for generating the low frequency clock.

  • Patent number: 9276830
Abstract: A secure network of electronic elements (“network”) ensures the electronic elements that implement an electronic device are functioning properly. The network selects at least one master electronic element to consistently check that each of the electronic elements are functioning properly. When the master electronic element identifies that an electronic element is not functioning properly, the network executes a predefined response, such as a counter measure that limits the functional capability of the improperly functioning electronic element or other electronic elements. Electronic elements can identify when a master electronic element is improperly functioning by observing that the master electronic element has ceased checking on the electronic elements. The secure network can then execute a response that includes the counter measure of limiting the functional capability of the improperly functioning master electronic element and assigning a new master electronic element.

  • Patent number: 9277499
Abstract: Idle mode power consumption reduction in wireless communications. Within a wireless communication device that is operative to communicate with any one of a number of servicing cells, paging broadcasts from more than one of these servicing cells are received and undergo only a limited amount of processing before being stored for use in subsequent processing that may be performed later. This partitioned processing allows the turning off of certain components that are not needed and/or no longer needed for determining the system frame numbers associated with various servicing cells to effectuate timing synchronization. Certain modules within such a wireless communication device may perform processing using the full capabilities of the wireless communication device to generate initially processed signal, and then after such signals are stored, then only partial processing capability of the wireless communication device may be employed, even though perhaps being slower, to complete the processing.

  • Patent number: 9276703
Abstract: Impulse and/or burst noise signal to noise ratio (SNR) aware concatenated forward error correction (FEC). Adaptive processing is performed on a signal based on one or more effects which may deleteriously modify a signal. For example, based on a modification of a signal to noise ratio (SNR) associated with one or more impulse or burst noise events, which may be estimated, different respective processing may be performed selectively to differently affected bits associated with the signal. For example, two respective SNRs may be employed: a first SNR for one or more first bits, and a second SNR for one or more second bits. For example, as an impulse or burst noise event may affect different respective bits of a codeword differently, and adaptive processing may be made such that different respective bits of the codeword may be handled differently.
