  • Patent number: 4791878
Abstract: A flagpole assembly includes a hollow pole and a winch at the base of the pole. A halyard is connected to the winch, extends through the hollow pole and out an exit opening at its tip. The inner edge of the flag is removably mounted to fixed positions along an elongate flag trolley to keep the inner flag edge extended. The flag trolley includes an elongate U-shaped channel to which two pulleys are mounted. The halyard passes from the exit opening, around one pulley, between the legs of the channel and around the other pulley. The outer end of the halyard is fastened to a shock absorbing anchor mounted along the hollow pole. Winding and unwinding the halyard onto and from the winch causes the flag to raise and lower as the length of the halyard between the exit opening and the anchor increases and decreases. The weight of the flag trolley, with or without the flag, is sufficient to pull the halyard from the pole when the winch is unwinding the halyard.

  • Patent number: 4779382
Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a sanding disk to the spindle of a portable right-angled grinder that will allow the connection to be released without extra tools. The mechanism consists essentially of a hollow spindle (18), of a tensioning anchor (22) that is accommodated inside the spindle (18) such that it can slide back and forth axially subject to an activating mechanism (54) but cannot rotate, and of two flanges that accommodate the sanding disk (28) between them, one of which, a mating flange that constitutes a support (20), is rigidly secured to the spindle, and the other of which, the tensioning flange (26), is loosely secured to the tensioning anchor (22). Between mutually facing demarcating surfaces (34 & 36) of the tensioning anchor (22) and the spindle (18) is a space (39) that communicates with another space (44) in the tensioning anchor (22). The spaces (39 & 44) are full of a plastic material (40) that can transmit force hydraulically.

  • Patent number: 4758754
Abstract: In motor-operated machines, especially portable electric tools, it is essential to prevent an impermissibly high torque on the driveshaft or operating spindle. This is attained by means of a torque-disengagement mechanism. An especially elegant, compact, precisely responsive torque-disengagement mechanism is attained by mounting one of the two bearings for a driveshaft in the machine housing or similar structure in such a way that it can move across the longitudinal axis or radially far enough to initiate a switching procedure. The bearing is secured in an initial position by means of an opposing force. The position represents both the zero position for the switching procedure and the correct position of the axis of the driveshaft during operation. If the machine includes a means of varying the torque, the power of the opposing force can be adjusted and maintained either continuously or discontinuously.

  • Patent number: 4739435
Abstract: A safety device for an electric power tool, especially a portable tool. It has a main switch, electronic controls, a tachometer-generator, and a relay. The relay electrically parallels the motor, acts on the supply of current to the motor through a relay contact, and is activated through the tachometer-generator and through a subsequent safety circuit. To provide a means of switching off the motor at excessively high speeds that will be inexpensive to manufacture and that will maintain a constant switch-off reference speed throughout its life, the safety circuit consists of a synchronization stage, an adjustable timer stage, a processing stage, an ignition amplifier, and an output section.

  • Patent number: 4733498
Abstract: An access window for use in fast food establishments and other similar drive-thru business establishments is disclosed. The window broadly comprises an elastic operating mechanism, two planar window members and a segmented articulated push-bar operator which is pushed to open the access windows. The push-bar operator can be locked in the open position. Upon releasing and/or unlocking the operator push-bar assembly the access window returns to its closed position by means of a closer bias member. The access window also comprises a locked window bias member which absorbs the pushing action on the operator push-bar, in the event the access window is latched shut, without damaging the access window and further without damaging the operating mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4684900
Abstract: A laser diode detection and optical pumping cesium resonator in which the frequency of the laser diode is made dependent on a signal delivered by a detector picking up the fluorescence light emanating from an interaction zone created just at the output of the cesium oven by the interaction of the cesium atom jet and a part of the light beam emitted by said detection diode. In particular, a laser diode detection and optical pumping cesium resonator having a cesium oven emitting a flow of cesium atoms, a resonating cavity in the flow path, a laser diode optical pump delivering a light beam into the atom flow between the cavity and the oven at a first interaction zone and a cesium resonance frequency generator. A detector for detecting fluorencence from a second interaction zone at the cavity output resulting from the interaction of the atom stream with a third laser. The detector delivering a signal representative of the second interaction to frequency control means to control the frequency of the generator.

  • Patent number: 4671364
Abstract: A power-screwdriver device with variable torque adjustment consists essentially of a drive mechanism, transmission, and cutoff mechanism. In order to provide a power screwdriver that is strong and inexpensive and in which the torque can be controlled with no need for a torque clutch, there is a bearing site on a transmission shaft. The bearing allows the shaft to move radially. There is a sensor that emits a motor-cutoff signal when the shaft does move radially. The radial deviation is employed as a measure of torque. The measure is adjusted with an adjusting device.
