  • Patent number: 4667599
Abstract: A device for parting or cutting a tube by means of an explosive charge, comprising a pack of explosive annular pellets 20 and a fuse assembly. The fuse assembly comprises two mutually equal lengths of detonating fuse 10 and 11 of which one 10 extends axially through the said pack 20 and the other 11 is disposed at one end of the said pack 20. Fuse 10 extends between a first booster 17 adjacent to but not contiguous with said one end of the pack 20 and a second booster 18 at the other end of the pack 20, and fuse 11 extends between said first booster 17 and a third booster 19 at said one end of the pack 20. In this way the pack 20 is sandwiched between said second and third booster and simultaneous detonation of the pack 20 at its opposite ends is achieved, when required in use, by application of a single initiation system to the first booster 17.

  • Patent number: 4641460
Abstract: An access window for use in fast food establishments and other similar drive-thru business establishments is disclosed. The window broadly comprises a semi-manually operated closing mechanism along with two planar window members. The closing mechanism employs substantially flat circumferential grooves cut into rotors located in a bottom hinge assembly. These rotors, together with a flexible elastic linkage, enable the uniform and smooth rotation of the window members from a fixed closed to a fixed open position and enable the window members to be rotated from a fixed open to a fixed closed position when either of the window members are pulled or pushed a short distance in the direction of the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4637106
Abstract: A process for the production of laminated capacitors constituted by a stack of dielectric layers separated by metallic foils or plates, those of the even and uneven rows being respectively interconnected by lateral electrical connections. A plurality of juxtaposed master capacitors is produced on a large diameter wheel and a common intercalated layer is used between two successive stacks of master capacitors. The separation of the master capacitor stacks takes place after metal spraying 1 of the lateral edges of the group, so as to maintain the equilibrium thereof and permit the metal spraying of the other lateral edge prior to the separation of the master capacitors and optional cutting up into individual capacitors.

  • Patent number: 4621854
Abstract: A device for changing tools, pick-ups, welding torches, and other implements that can be handled by industrial robots. It consists of an upper and lower part. In order to obtain optimal cost effectiveness a linear drive mechanism guides a hook-shaped structure in the upper part along a guide in such a way that the structure initially carries out a curved motion essentially perpendicular to the linear closing or opening motion during the closure process. The curved motion is appropriate for making the bottom of the device engage an associated implement even when the latter is stored in an imprecise position. The structure then carries out a strictly linear motion during which the upper part and lower part are exactly aligned by guides integrated into the device and by guide bevels even in the presence of counteracting forces. A motion that can be made as precise as desired can be executed to obtain a closed and mechanically prescribable final position.

  • Patent number: 4621385
Abstract: An amphibious vehicle, which can be used as a water-crossing ferry or can be assembled with other such vehicles to form a pontoon bridge, includes a hull section hinged to two ramp sections. The hull section includes two lateral inflatable floats, having a length equal to that of the hull, connected to flaps hinged to the hull, the flaps having a length slightly less than that of the hull in order to leave visibility through side portholes located near the ends of the hull. In the inflated position, these lateral flaps form a horizontal extension of the upper surface of the hull, extending over the lateral floats. Each ramp section is equipped with two lateral floats of equal length with the ramps and of equal width with the lateral hull floats. The ramp floats are connected to ramp flaps, hinged to the ramp which extend the horizontal surface of the ramp when inflated and unfolded. Each ramp section is further equipped with a central float which extends between the two lateral floats.

  • Patent number: 4616194
Abstract: A piezoelectric oscillator operating in the aperiodic or overtone mode comprising a first piezoelectric resonator having a resonance frequency at which the oscillator is to operate. One side of the first resonator is connected to ground, and the other side is connected through a second piezoelectric resonator to the base of a transistor. The second resonator has in common with the first resonator a mode at the resonance frequency, but its intrinsic quality factor is between 30 and 1000 times smaller than that of the first resonator. A capacitive divider bridge having a middle point is connected between the base of the transistor and ground. A third piezoelectric resonator having in common with said first resonator a mode at said resonance frequency, but whose intrinsic quality factor is of the same order of size as that of the second resonator, is connected between said middle point and the emitter of said transistor.

  • Patent number: 4611182
Abstract: A method and a device for regulating the heating of a thermostatically controlled enclosure of a quartz oscillator. During a first stage, the thermostatically controlled enclosure is exposed to an external temperature close to the maximum operating temperature and the frequency of the oscillator is measured. During a second stage, the thermostatically controlled enclosure is exposed to an external temperature close to the minimum temperature of the range and the difference between the frequency of the oscillator and the frequency previously measured is cancelled out by modifying the distribution of the powers dissipated by the heating elements of the thermostatically controlled enclosure. The heating of the enclosure is performed by a chain of voltage stabilizer semiconductor circuits connected in series, each of the circuits being traversed by a regulated heating current. The regulating of the heating action is performed by modifying the stabilized voltages of the circuits.

  • Patent number: 4609885
Abstract: A device having the function of compensating for the acceleration sensitivity of an oscillator of given nominal frequency comprises an acceleration-sensing element such as a filter which is capable of producing a signal having a nominal frequency equal to that of the oscillator to be compensated but, in respect of its nominal frequency, has higher sensitivity to acceleration than the oscillator to be compensated. The phase difference between the frequency of the oscillator and the frequency produced by the filter is compared in a mixer in order to extract the phase modulation induced by the acceleration. A follow-up control amplifier receives the output signal of the phase comparator and produces at its output a signal for correcting the oscillator.

  • Patent number: 4608269
Abstract: The inside of a sleeve is positioned over a nozzle having an elongated groove opening immediately at the region of the sleeve to be striped. The sleeve surrounding the nozzle is given a predetermined potential level. A stream of particles is introduced into at least one end of the groove in a direction at least generally parallel to the groove and to the region to be striped. The particles are charged relative to the potential level of the sleeve such that the particles are attracted to the sleeve. A stream of air is also introduced under pressure into the opposite end of the groove in generally the opposite direction. The countercurrent thus produced deflects the stream of powder so it projects generally radially from the nozzle groove, thickly coating the strip region at the seam. The region is the seam of the sleeve which is to be made into a three-part can, in which case the groove is longer than the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4597227
Abstract: A device for attaching a tool in portable angled grinders, allowing the connection to be released without special accessories. The device consists essentially of a hollow driveshaft, of a spindle that slides inside it, and of a tool-securing point consisting of a mating flange and nut. The nut is loosened by activating the displacing mechanism, which displaces the spindle toward the tool-securing point, lifting the nut, which is connected to the spindle by means of a threaded pin, off of the tool. The nut can then be screwed off by hand.
