Abstract: A laser beam scan type barcode reader which reads a pair of spaced marks which adjusts or specify corrects start and stop positions of the laser beam irradiation. The distance between the pair of marks corresponds to a length of a barcode to be read. The reader detects the start and stop positions of the laser beam irradiation determined by the pair of marks, and sets the detected start and stop positions of the laser beam irradiation. When the reader reads the barcode, it controls the turning on/off of the laser beam in one scan period based on the set start and stop positions of the laser beam irradiation, and determines the actual scan span in which the laser beam is turned on in the one scan period based on the start and stop positions determined by the pair of marks, which ensures preventing structural, functional and characteristic deviations of the reader from the standards from influencing the scan span of the laser beam.

Abstract: Disclosed is an image processing apparatus for processing an image input from an image input device such as a digital camera. Upon reception of an image of an article from the image input device, this image processing apparatus discriminates the color and size of the article, and stores pieces of data indicating the discriminated color and size in correspondence with the image. When a color or size is designated as search data, the apparatus searches an image memory for images corresponding to the designated contents and displays them in the form of a list. When an article is imaged, pieces of feature data indicating the feature of the article are added and stored with respect to the image. When feature data is designated, the image of a desired article can be immediately searched out from many images.

Abstract: A set diagram display control apparatus performs a set diagram display process. When the elements or number count of each of a plurality of sets is input to a set relation list, the element counts of all set relations are calculated in accordance with the elements or element counts of those sets. A display range of a set diagram is determined in accordance with the input or calculated element counts. The areas of circular diagrams which compose the set diagram are displaced in correspondence to their elements counts in the displayed range. And the displayed positions and radii of the circular diagrams are determined depending on the element count of the set diagram, in order to display the set diagram as composed of the circular diagrams.
Abstract: A CPU built in a portable telephone (or a PHS terminal), receiving the control signal from a doorway base station, detects the present operation mode. If the present mode is the call enable mode, it is assumed that the user has entered a use inhibit area and the operation mode is changed to any one of the sleep #1 mode and sleep #2 mode previously specified, these two modes belonging to the call inhibit mode. The CPU then performs call incoming control or call originating control. In a case where the present mode is the call inhibit mode when the CPU receives the mode change signal, it is assumed that the user has left the use inhibit area and the operation mode is returned to the standby mode, the call enable mode, and call incoming control and call originating control in the present operation mode are performed.
Abstract: An electronic book device receives from an external delivery source book data representing the contents of a book, a reciter images, for example, of famous persons who read aloud the contents of the book based on the received book data, and the corresponding reciter voice data, and then displays the received book data and reciter images on the display. A user views the received book data and reciter images displayed on the display and causes the reciter images to read the book data aloud in voices represented by the reciter voice data.
Abstract: A photosensor system performs a sensitivity-adjusting reading operation with respect to a subject image, while simultaneously changing the image reading sensitivity stepwise for each of rows of a photosensor array or for specific rows thereof. The dynamic ranges of the lightness data on the read subject image are checked to see how they are distributed in relation to the image reading sensitivities. On the basis of this distribution, an image reading sensitivity that contributes to an optimal image reading state is extracted as an optimal image reading sensitivity.
Abstract: An image pickup system is provided wherein an illumining device illumines an object from above on its front side. When an image of the object is to be picked up, a moving device moves the position of the image pickup device relative to the object so as to easily pickup the image of the object. To this end, a commodity as an object is placed within an image pickup box. An image of the commodity is picked up by a camera placed outside the box. In this case, the commodity is illumined by the illumining device from above on its front side. The camera and the commodity are moved relative to each other. Thus, illumination blurs are reduced and a clear image is easily picked up.
Abstract: A two-dimensional photosensor is formed on a surface light source, and a transparent conductive layer made of ITO or the like is formed on the two-dimensional photosensor. The transparent conductive layer dissipates static electricity and is grounded. Even if a finger in contact with the transparent conductive layer on the two-dimensional photosensor is charged with static electricity, this static electricity can dissipate via the transparent conductive layer. When the transparent conductive layer is divided into two layers, and the finger simultaneously touches the two transparent conductive layers, a fingerprint reading start signal is obtained. Even if, therefore, the finger is charged with static electricity, the two-dimensional photosensor can be prevented from malfunction or damage by the static electricity. When a target object in contact between the transparent conductive layers is a copy having a different resistance value, reading is not performed, and the reliability can improve.
Abstract: There is provided a power supply system which can cause a predetermined device to stably and excellently operate by only directly connecting an electrode terminal to the device, suppress waste of a power generation fuel, and achieve effective use of an energy resource.
Abstract: A musical instrument and a method for automatically playing a musical accompaniment by guiding smoother and easier chord patterns to play. The present invention indicates chord forms which realize smoothest fingering after analyzing a chord following the present chord to determine whether the present chord should employ a root position or an inverted position for the smoothest fingering. Another feature of the present invention is to indicate chord forms which are selected to realize less movement of the player's hand after analyzing the former chord to determine a chord position (root position or inverted position) of the present chord which is the closest to the former position.
Abstract: An imaged pickup apparatus wherein the light projected position in which light representing sample points of the image of an object to be photographed is projected is changed, and any light receiving element of a light receiving section sequentially detects the intensity of the light representing the individual sample points. The light receiving section generates outputs representing the detected light intensities in synchronization with changes of the light projected position, and as a result, a plurality of image signals are produced. The light receiving section includes a plurality of groups each of which consists of light receiving elements, having light receiving surfaces and forming a set, and apertures. The apertures are orthographically projected in different positions on the light receiving surfaces of the light receiving elements. The produced pixel data are arranged so that the pixel data representing the intensity of light which has passed through different apertures are adjacent to each other.
Abstract: Each time a mobile terminal enters a service area of an information providing device and its location is registered by the information providing device, the area code and local code of telephone numbers and addresses associated with the service area are sent from the information providing device to the mobile terminal. Based on the area and local codes of telephone numbers and the addresses, the terminal retrieves the telephone numbers, names and addresses of acquaintances residing within the service area from an address book stored in its RAM and visually displays them with a notification sound. Thus, the user at the terminal can know access information for acquaintances residing within each service area each time the user enters the service area.
Abstract: When a person wearing the wristwatch device (11) on his or her dominant arm has struck a blow, an acceleration sensor (12) senses acceleration at regular intervals of time, extracts accelerations x1 to x20 sensed at 20 points in front of the hit point H at which the sensed acceleration changes from positive to negative, and stores them in a RAM (20). The impulse force is calculated by multiplying the accelerations x1 to x20 at the 20 points in front of the hit point H by the weighting coefficients determined on the basis of the accelerations sensed in a trial performance and the actually measured impulse force and stored in a ROM (19). Therefore, the impulse force can be estimated accurately without actually striking a secured object.

Thereby, a user can enjoy an unexpected game.
Abstract: A digital camera is provided with a plurality of group specifying keys for specifying a use purpose of a photographed picture. In such an external flash memory of the digital camera that stores the photographed pictures is generated a plurality of index files that corresponds to the group specifying keys. When any one of the plurality of group specifying keys is pressed when some of the recorded pictures are displayed, file names of those pictures being displayed are sequentially described in an index file corresponding to that pressed group specifying key. When using the picture file, the personal computer reads out a plurality of picture files described in an index file which corresponds to a desired use purpose to then conduct the corresponding processes at a time based on that index file.
