  • Patent number: 6393463
Abstract: The control section of a PDA incorporating a radio communication function adds respective subaddresses as identifiers to the mail address allocated to one account. The subaddresses classify the mail address as a plurality of destinations. The control section transmits an electronic mail to which one of the subaddresses is added to a mail server. The control section also discriminates the subaddress added as an identifier to an electronic mail by accessing a mailbox in the mail server, and receives the electronic mail to which the subaddress is added.

  • Publication number: 20020057243
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device of an active matrix type, at first, an initialization signal voltage having a voltage value equal to or higher than the maximum voltage value of a display signal is applied to display pixels in a signal application period in a field period. The display signal is thereafter applied. As a result, the change amount of the voltage applied to liquid crystal due to the field-through voltage in relation to a gate pulse can be arranged to be substantially constant, and can always be cancelled by a common electrode voltage. Occurrence of flicker and seizure phenomena can be thereby restricted so that the display quality can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20020048156
Abstract: Predetermined wiring of copper is formed on the upper surface of an elongated base film in a wiring forming area as a width-directional central portion of the base film. Further, band-shaped first reinforcing layers of copper are formed on width-directional opposite portions of the upper surface of the base film. As a result, even if the base film has a relatively thin thickness, portions of the base film near sprocket holes can be made to have a substantially desired strength. To keep the first reinforcing layers out of contact with the pins of a transfer pin roller, opening slightly larger than the sprocket holes are formed in the first reinforcing layers.

  • Patent number: 6377322
Abstract: Each pair of gate lines GL are arranged aside a corresponding one of rows of pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix form, so as to sandwich pixel electrodes in the direction of columns, whereas each pair of TFTs are arranged to a sandwich corresponding one of the pixel electrodes, and each of data lines DL is arranged aside a corresponding one of columns of pixel electrodes. TFTs are connected to the pixel electrodes and to the gate lines GL so that the pixel electrodes of one row are selected when two of the gate lines GL sandwiching the pixel electrodes are selected. An end of a current path of each TFT is connected to the data line DL. When a pair of TFTs sandwiching one pixel electrode are simultaneously turned on, large current is supplied to the pixel electrode through the data line DL. Source electrode of TFT and source electrode of its proximate (adjacent) thin film transistor are formed by pattering the same metal layer, and share one current path connected to the data line DL.

  • Patent number: 6371670
Abstract: A label printing apparatus is provided into which a configuration of a label-affix object and a value defining the configuration, for example a value of a diameter in a case of a circular cylinder, are input. In accordance with an operational expression of the input value of the diameter and a length of an outer circumference of the input configuration, a length of a label to be wound around an outer circumference of the label-affix object is calculated. Feeding a tape by the length from a tape cassette, a printing is performed to the tape so that respective characters of a string of characters or symbols such as a name separately input are evenly arranged in the determined length. Therefore, in accordance with the outer circumference of the label-affix object, the length of the label can be automatically set up for the printing. Further, an overlap allowance is added, as necessary.

  • Patent number: 6373431
Abstract: In a position measuring receiver, when ephemeris data is acquired from radio waves received from satellites in the measurement of a present position of the receiver, the acquired ephemeris data and data on a time when the ephemeris data was acquired are stored (steps SA6-SA8). Then, a time elapsed since the ephemeris data was acquired is calculated at intervals of one minute (steps SA10-SA12). After the elapsed time is more than two hours, an alarm is sounded at intervals of two minutes (steps SA13-SA14) to urge a user to acquire new ephemeris data at a spot suitable for receiving radio waves from the satellites before an effective term of the old ephemeris data is expired.

  • Patent number: 6368515
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing an ink-jet printer which uses a thin film sheet having adhesive layers respectively formed on the top and bottom sides, as an orifice plate, orifices are formed in the ink-ejecting side of the thin film sheet after the adhesive layer on that ink-ejecting side has been removed. This prevents the formation of the orifices from being adversely affected by any otherwise residual of the adhesive layer and can thus permit accurate formation of orifices of a desired shape. Even if helicon-wave dry etching which ensure fast etching using high-power energy is used to form orifices, therefore, no adhesive layer is thermally expanded to be a residual so that multiple orifices can be formed simultaneously and quickly.

  • Patent number: 6369802
Abstract: A handwritten data input device has a coordinate detection tablet for detecting writing data input by handwriting using an input pen and a program storage medium. When a predetermined preprocess is required for an input process to accept writing data input by handwriting from the tablet, useless handwritten input can be effectively avoided when the preprocess has not been completed. In the handwritten data input device, a CPU determines whether the preprocess has been completed when the input pen approaches the tablet and, if the preprocess has not been completed, drives a buzzer to generate an alarm tone, thereby notifying the operator that the handwritten input is invalid in advance.

  • Patent number: 6366698
Abstract: A user of a portable terminal writes sentences to be transmitted as an e-mail, a mail address, and information indicating that service a host device is requested to provide is “mail transmission” on paper as a memo. By using an image input unit installed in the portable terminal, the paper or the like is imaged. The portable terminal transmits the image data thus taken in to the host device. The host device analyzes received image data by using an image recognition unit. Upon recognizing by characters that the service requested by the portable terminal is “mail transmission”, the host device starts a mail transmitting/receiving unit. The mail transmitting/receiving unit transmits the content of the written memo included in the image data to a terminal specified by the mail address included in the image data.

  • Patent number: 6366288
Abstract: In an image display device, a ROM contains a plurality of image data indicative of the actions of an animal character. A RAM includes a plurality of action level registers each stores for each of which image data the state of inputs given to select and display the image data. The user gives a command corresponding to a respective image of an animal character to select and display the action of the animal character optionally. When a random number corresponding to the command is generated, image data which does not correspond to the input command can be displayed. If the generated random number has a particular value, the value of an action level register for the image data corresponding to the command is updated. Such operation is iterated and thus the value of the action level register is updated.
