Abstract: A disc brake comprising a piston mounted in a cylinder associated with a carrying member movable towards a rotary disc from an idle position to urge directly a friction pad towards the corresponding face of the disc is disclosed. The friction pad slidably cooperates with appropriate surfaces defined on two circumferentially spaced edges of an aperture provided in the carrying member, at least one of the edges comprising a slot offset towards the piston relative to the appropriate surfaces to permit radial extraction of the pad when the latter is brought opposite the slot. The piston is adapted to be pushed back away from the disc towards its idle position in opposition to an automatic adjuster associated with the piston to permit radial extraction of the pad by introduction of a tool between the pad and the piston after removal of a wedge forming element normally inserted therebetween.

Abstract: A component comprising a plurality of gemstones containing visible faces and seating faces, said gemstones being mounted by their seating faces in a given arrangement and with a given mutual spacing therebetween in respective recesses in a support, said support being a continuous foil of fusion adhesive. The component is made in an apparatus that includes a plate with a heating chamber on one side and a vacuum chamber on the other. The stones are arranged in recesses on the plate with their seating faces outward, a sheet of adhesive foil (transparent or colored) is positioned thereover, heated into a thermoplastic state and drawn down by vacuum to surround and adhere to the seating faces. The component (foil with stones affixed) is then placed in a recessed jewelry setting with each stone in a recess, and again heated to fuse the foil to the setting.

Abstract: The preparation of 7-aza-6-alkoxy-1-tetralones which originates with dihydroresorcinol is disclosed herein. The subject compounds are useful intermediates in the synthesis of various compounds which possess valuable pharmacological properties.

Abstract: This invention encompasses novel 5-[1,1-diphenyl-3-(4-phenylpiperidino)propyl]-2-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles and structurally related compounds. These compounds are useful anti-diarrheal agents which , in addition to their anti-diarrheal utility, possess a utility as potent analgesic agents.

Abstract: A toy three wheeled vehicle includes a retroflex articulated handle. The vehicle comprises a body member having a trapezoidal configuration with two rear wheels mounted on an axle and a front swivel wheel. The articulated handle includes two parts that are pivotally mounted together with one of the parts being, in turn, pivotally mounted to the body member within a recessed storage channel. The articulated handle, when in the retroflexion state, can be stored flush with the surface of the body member. The body member further includes a floor board having a pivotable portion which can be folded back upon itself to provide both an opening for an operator's legs and a seat for the operator.

Abstract: A feeler for reading the contour of the rim of a spectacle frame has a reading head on a rod carried by a support which is linked by a ball joint to a fixed base. A cylindrical skirt on the support co-operates with the base and with a displacement detector which provides an indication which is employed to maintain contact of the rim with the reading head.

Abstract: A protective helmet comprising a shock absorbing shell is disclosed in which a recess is provided at the inner apex or crown portion of the shock absorbing shell and a laminated insert of padding providing for both wearer comfort and shock attenuation is placed in such recess. The design of the recess and insert to provide specific shock attenuating characteristics is described.

Abstract: A multiplexer transmitter terminator is disclosed for connection to a multiplexer transmitter in a system having a plurality of multiplexer transmitters connected on a common communication line. Each of the multiplexer transmitters is assigned a time period for transmission relative to a multiplexer time clock. The improvement includes a counter circuit connected to the multiplexer time clock for providing a counter output upon counting a preselected number of clock pulses which output corresponds to the time period assigned for transmission of the multiplexer transmitter. A line receiver is connected to the communication line for providing an output upon detecting a predetermined period of signal absence on the communication line. The line receiver output is connected to the counter circuit to reset the counter after the predetermined period of signal absence.

Abstract: A multiplexer receiver terminator is disclosed for connection to a multiplexer receiver in a system having a plurality of multiplexer receivers connected on a common communication line. Each of the multiplexer receivers is assigned a time period for reception relative to a multiplexer time clock. The improvement includes a counter circuit connected to the multiplexer time clock for providing a counter output upon the clock counter counting between two preselected clock counts which correspond to the time period assigned for reception of the multiplexer receiver. A line receiver is connected to the communication line for providing an output upon detecting a predetermined period of signal absence on the communication line. The line receiver output is connected to the counter for resetting the counter after the predetermined period of signal absence. The counter circuit is connected to the multiplexer receiver for enabling reception from the communication line only during an output of the counter circuit.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of .epsilon.-(.gamma.-glutamyl)-lysine which comprises heating lysine glutamate for at least 5 hours at a temperature of at least 120.degree. C by means of an inert heat-carrier fluid, and isolating .epsilon.-(.gamma.-glutamyl)-lysine from the conversion product thus obtained.The inert heat-carrier fluid can be either a gas such as air or nitrogen, or a liquid such as n-amylalcohol, kerosene, nonane, 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, 1-octanol or 2-ethyl-1-butanol.

Abstract: A load handling mast for lift trucks including an extensible assembly of three rail sections nested together and interconnected by load supporting chains and a hydraulic rising piston and cylinder ram mounted on the middle rail section. The chains are reeved over sheaves mounted on the ram piston rod and the rail sections to provide a four to one ratio of mast extension relative to piston rod extension. The full extension and retraction of the mast and the support of the load manipulated by the mast is effected entirely through the chains and hydraulic ram without the use of a latch system.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic servomotor comprising a housing provided with a bore slidably receiving two pistons separating an actuating chamber from an utilization chamber, said pistons including an annular outer piston and an inner piston received within the annular piston. Releasable coupling means are provided between both pistons to permit said pistons to move in unison when high pressure fluid is available in the actuating chamber and to permit the inner piston to be moved alone by the push rod in the event of a high pressure failure in the actuating chamber. The motion of the outer piston towards the interior of the actuating chamber is limited by an abutment fixed to the housing.

Abstract: The invention provides a hot and cold water mixing and flow control faucet of the hydraulically unbalanced piston type. A control stem of the piston passes through a seal of a self-energizing nature for connection to an actuating member operative to rotate and reciprocate the piston. The piston is substantially pressure balanced in the closed position by virtue that shut-off of the faucet is effected at the inlet ports, and is biased axially in the open position by virtue that the opposed pressure-effective areas of the piston are unequal. These opposed areas of the piston differ by an amount corresponding to the cross sectional area of the control stem, and the diameter of the stem is limited to a maximum of 6 mms. to correspondingly limit the force biasing the piston axially.

The fibres of each of the cables to be connected are held in channels formed between cylindrical holding rods clamped together, one of the sets of holding rods being surrounded by guide rods which extend towards the other set of holding rods so as to ensure the guiding of the latter at the time when the connection is made.

This noise reducing screen comprises a continuous wall portion having a whole length 2d, built up between the elongated noise source and the building on both sides of a perpendicular drawn from the building point the most remote from the noise source and located at a distance D therefrom to the elongated noise source and a plurality of variably spaced apart posts aligned with said wall portion, these posts having a length a and a width b repectively parallel and perpendicular to the elongated source, the spacing between the n.sup.th and (n-1).sup.th post being at most equal todp.sup.n + (a-d)p.sup.n-1 with n.ltoreq.2 (and dp or n=1)Where p is the ratio D/(D-b)It results from this spacing that all rectilinear noise propagation paths from the noise source to the building are intercepted by the posts.

Abstract: A cylinder liner for a large size internal combustion engine has a neck which extends between the cylinder block and the head to define a combustion chamber in each cylinder. The liner has internal cooling ducts which are formed by blind holes in the neck of the liner which communicate with entry and exit passages for liquid coolant at parts of the liner within the cylinder block, leaving the exposed neck portion free of through holes where high strength is required. Each blind hole is subdivided by an internal baffle into flow and return passages for coolant.

Abstract: A drive for a textile carding machine is illustrated wherein a direct current motor is provided for returning the doffer to operating or production speed, following a run at slow speed as for putting an end up, independently of the other driven card components which is de-energized after the doffer has attained operating speed. A drive connection provided between the licker-in and the barrow pulley thereafter drives the doffer at operating speed. The method thus contemplates driving the doffer from slow to operating speed independently of the usual driving components of the card and then when the doffer is at operating speed, utilizing the usual driving components of the card to drive the doffer after discontinuing independent driving of the doffer.

Abstract: 1-[2-Hydroxy-3-(4-alkyl-1-piperazinyl)-4-oxo-2-cyclobuten-1-ylidene]-4-alky lpiperazinium hydroxide inner salts and related compounds are described herein. These compounds are useful as anti-viral agents. They are prepared from 2-anilino-3-hydroxy-4-(phenylimino)-2-cyclobuten-1-one and the appropriate monosubstituted piperazine.
