Abstract: System for quickly locking the lenses to, and easily disengaging the same from, sportive goggles, said lenses particularly being graduated lenses or the like for correction of visual defects; and sportive goggles in accordance with said system, particularly a technically advanced and improved form of swimming and diving goggles affording an easy use, a wider visual angle and greater protection for eyes, characterized by a main body with two countersunk seats for lenses and grooves parallel thereto for receiving a locking frame adapted to be locked in place by a disengageable member serving also as connecting member for the positioning strap of the goggles.

Abstract: A compensating store device for cigarettes, between cigarette manufacturing machines and machines for packeting the cigarettes, wrapping the packets and making and wrapping packs of wrapped packets. The store device comprises a cylinder rotating about a vertical axis and having vertical, radial cigarette storage compartments, circumferentially distributed. A cigarette delivery channel at the top of this cylinder feeds cigarettes from a feeding conveyor run to the compartments, and tilts gradually so as not to loose its free and open, cigarette-feeding connection to the compartment in the rotating cylinder. Similarly, a cigarette-removing channel at the bottom of the cylinder is tiltably mounted. Between these channels, successive, horizontal rods are moved into, downwardly along, and ultimately from each compartment, with the aid of a further tilting mechanism, to provide supports for the cigarettes stored in the compartments.

Abstract: A collimator is provided for a scintillation camera system in which a detector precesses in an orbit about a patient. The collimator is designed to have high resolution and lower sensitivity with respect to radiation traveling in paths laying wholly within planes perpendicular to the cranial-caudal axis of the patient. The collimator has high sensitivity and lower resolution to radiation traveling in otherplanes. Variances in resolution and sensitivity are achieved by altering the length, spacing or thickness of the septa of the collimator.

Abstract: This invention relates to a union for assembling a smooth pipe end to a bush, composed of two half-unions fitted in each other and assembled by a nut fast with a toothed ring. Each half union comprises a jaw which cooperates with a sliding ring, which ring is displaced by means of a nut fast with a toothed gear. Said jaws comprise on their inner periphery truncated surfaces which cooperate with truncated surfaces carried by said sliding rings to disconnect the half-unions by manoeuvring said lock nuts.

Abstract: This encoder comprises a series of resistors for determining the reference voltages, and comparators having at least one pair of outputs A and B. First inputs of said comparators are connected respectively to said resistors and second inputs of said comparators are connected to the voltage to be encoded through an impedance adaptor stage. The outputs A and B of the pairs of outputs of each comparator are respectively connected to the outputs B and A of the following comparator and constitute first and second output groups. The first and second groups are connected respectively to the inputs of a comparator constituting a bit of smallest weight of the encoder and the outputs A and B of the other pairs of outputs are connected in a similar manner to comparators constituting bits of greatest weight.

Abstract: Trip and release type control mechanism comprises, between two laterally spaced bed-plates, a trip knob, a release knob, a main connecting rod, a secondary connecting rod, a retaining connecting rod, a control cam, a click, or latch and a release lever. The release lever extends parallel to the bed-plates and pivots about a pin parallel to the bed-plates. The click or latch abuts against a catch stop of release lever, with movement of the release lever being practically perpendicular to the click or latch at the level of the catch stop.

Abstract: A new process for the preparation of 17.beta.-hydroxy-3-oxo-17.alpha.-pregn-4-ene-21-carboxylic acid .gamma.-lactone is described herein. The process makes use of androst-4-ene-3,17-dione as the starting material and 17.alpha.-ethynyl-17.beta.-hydroxyandrost-4-en-3-one as an early intermediate.

The store device comprises a cylinder rotating about a vertical axis and having vertical, radial cigarette storage compartments, circumferentially distributed. A cigarette delivery channel at the top of this body feeds cigarettes to the compartments, and tilts so as not to loose its free and open, cigarette-feeding connections to the compartment in the rotating cylinder. Similarly, a cigarette-removing channel at the bottom of the cylinder is tiltably mounted. Between these channels, successive, horizontal rods, cantilevering from a support are moved into, downwardly along, and ultimately from each compartment.

Abstract: An improved multiple sample handling system, including a fully machine-compatible multiple sample support assembly, sample vortexing apparatus, and sample radioactivity sensing apparatus, is disclosed which enables performance of a complete radioimmunoassay or competitive binding procedure on the samples in the support assembly, generally without the need to remove and handle individual samples, and which greatly increases processing speed and error avoidance. The support assembly includes an apertured tray and sample retainers cooperating therewith and supporting the sample tubes by radially inwardly acting gripping portions. The retainers fit loosely within the tray apertures, but displacement control means are defined on the retainers and tray permitting the retainers together with tubes to smoothly move angularly relative to the tray within a small predetermined solid angle. The assembly with tubes is self-supporting upon the tubes for storage and optionally during sample operation.

Abstract: A positron imaging system and method in which two opposed Anger cameras are employed on opposite sides of an organ to be imaged. The cameras include a planar unitary scintillation crystal approximately one inch in thickness, and the electronics which process the signals from the cameras include pulse shaping circuitry to reduce both the duration and the integration time of pulses resulting from radioactive events. Both cameras exclude collimators to enable radiation incident upon them at many angles to be accepted, and means are included to rotate the opposed cameras about the organ of interest to enable transverse tomographic imaging.

Abstract: A new process utilizing certain novel intermediates for the preparation of 17.beta.-hydroxy-3-oxo-17.alpha.-pregn-4-ene-21-carboxylic acid .gamma.-lactone is described herein. The procedure utilizes readily available and inexpensive sarsasaponin as starting material.

Abstract: A monophonic system includes means for voicing only tones derived in response to depression of a key associated with the highest pitched note when several keys are struck at approximately the same time, regardless of the order in which the keys are struck. If several keys are released at approximately the same time, only the tones derived in response to the highest remaining activated key are voiced, regardless of the release sequence. In response to the system being played legatissimo, voiced tones gradually shift in frequency, i.e., portamento is achieved. In response to the system being played staccatissimo, voiced tones shift in frequency in discrete steps.

Abstract: A method for the purification of argon in a gas obtained as a by-product from the fractionation of air to the recover O.sub.2 and N.sub.2 is described. The argon-containing gas is fed to a single argon-rectifying column which separates oxygen and then to a conventional purification column in which the separation takes place. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a rectification column having the top connected to a heating compressing and cooling circuit for liquefying and recycling in the liquid state the evolved vapors; the bottom of the column is heated by a fraction of the compressed but not cooled gaseous mixture drawn from the heating and compressing section of said circuit; the end section of this latter being further connected to a conventional nitrogen-withdrawing column for feeding a portion of the oxygen-free liquefied product.

Each channel system comprises a fixed channel section communicating with consecutive storage compartments, a channel section movably mounted to selectively admit and stop a flow of cigarettes into or from the fixed section; and a solenoid for controlling the latter section.

Abstract: The invention discloses a seed holding hopper or the like, which is mounted in vertical position on a planter vehicle. The hopper is cylindrical, closed at the top by a lid or cover, and closed at the bottom by a bottom member which has the usual seed exit opening through it. A clean-out opening is provided in the cylindrical wall of the hopper close to the bottom and a closure member is mounted on the inside of the hopper, conforming in shape to the cylinder portion of the hopper with guides holding the closure member close to the adjacent wall of the hopper and slidable vertically downward to close the clean-out opening and upwardly to clear the opening so that one may clean out any seed left in the hopper. The closure member, in open position, extends out through the top of the hopper and must be safely in the closed position for the lid or cover of the hopper to be placed in its usual position closing the hopper.

Abstract: A securing device which permits the outer end of the hair-spring in a timepiece to be fastened either by gluing or pinning it in place. A U-shaped arm extends radially of the axis of the balance wheel and provides a pair of ears, one for gluing the hair-spring and the other for pinning it. The manufacturer of the watch can thus use the ear for gluing the outer end of the hair-spring, as this method has advantages for production purposes. When the hair-spring is replaced, the watch-repairman can use the other ear for pinning the outer end of the hair-spring without deforming the hair-spring, thereby obtaining the advantages of this method for repair purposes.

Abstract: A dual-flow or multiflow gas turbine power plant comprising a jet pipe, at east two separate flow-ducts each opening into the jet pipe, namely a first flow-duct through which passes, in operation, a first gas flow and which contains a gas generator of the gas turbine type and an expansion-turbine located downstream of the gas generator, and a second flow-duct through which passes, in operation, a second gas flow and a mixer device in which the first gas flow leaving the expansion turbine, and the second gas flow, are arranged to be mixed prior to entering the jet pipe, the plant further comprising a recompressor located downstream of the mixer device, in which the mixture of the two gas flows is arranged to be recompressed before entering the jet pipe.
