  • Patent number: 4886105
Abstract: A process is described for curing sand moldings, in particular casting cores, by the cold box process. In this process a catalyst containing gas mixture escaping from the mold is passed over a mixture feed side of a semipermeable membrane while a pressure is maintained on the permeate side of the membrane which is less than the pressure on the mixture feed side, whereby the catalyst vapors preferentially permeate through the membrane, and a permeate carrier gas stream which is, in particular, 50 to 300 liters greater than the permeate stream passing through the membrane per m.sup.2 and per hour is passed over the permeate side of the membrane. The catalyst, in particular a tertiary amine, is greatly concentrated in the permeate carrier gas stream and can simply and inexpensively be removed from the latter by condensation. Inexpensive, virtually complete recovery of the expensive catalyst is possible using the process.

  • Patent number: 4886293
Abstract: A gas producer is disclosed for filling a gas cushion restraining device for occupants of vehicles. The gas producer includes a combustion chamber filled with fuel and surrounded by a wall which exhibits apertures for the discharge of the gas produced, said apertures being sealed hermetically by a destructible cover at the start of the burning process of the fuel up to a specific pressure rise in the combustion chamber. In order to obtain a planned pressure rise irrespective of the initial temperature of the gas producer, it is provided according to the invention that the total cross-sectional area of the discharge apertures is automatically enlargeable as a function of the rising combustion chamber pressure.

  • Patent number: 4884354
Abstract: A sports pistol comprises a housing, which extends in a substantially prismatic recess formed in a grip and is held in that recess by means of a fixing screw that extends upwardly from the bottom of the grip. In order to permit an adaptation of the pistol to the attitude of the hand of a given shooter, the housing extending in the recess defines clearances with the side faces, the bottom surface and the rear surface of the recess and is supported on the bottom surface and on the rear surface of the recess by respective pairs of adjusting screws, which are disposed on opposite sides of the vertical longitudinal center plane of the housing. Besides, the fixing screw extends at an oblique angle to the bottom surface and at an oblique angle to the rear surface of the recess and is screwed into a member that is mounted in the housing for rotation on an axis which is normal to the vertical longitudinal center plane of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4877296
Abstract: An antilocking braking system which operates by controlling the pressure reduction and pressure build-up phases at vehicle wheel brakes by changing the volume of a primary chamber of a pressure modulator, to which the wheel brakes are connected via a brake pressure 2/2-way solenoid controlled valve and an inlet valve. The primary chamber of the pressure modulator is connected to a pressure output of a brake booster. The pressure modulator is designed as a hydraulically driven pump whose feed volume per stroke corresponds to approximately 25% to 50% of the maximum brake fluid quantity which can be expelled into the connected brake circuit, and if, when the inlet valve is closed, one stroke of the pump is not sufficient to achieve a required pressure reduction at the connected wheel brakes, then the pump is switched to a return feed mode in that the brake pressure control valves are driven to their blocking positions and the inlet valve is driven to its open position.

  • Patent number: 4877258
Abstract: A fold bellows for rotating drive joints is proposed which, although it is equipped with a plurality of folds along its length, admits large bend angles without the flanks of its folds having mutual contract for a physical bellows dimensioning which corresponds approximately to a dimensioning of known fold bellows. For this purpose the fold bellows is equipped with a joint side fold of larger diameter, with a shaft side fold of smaller diameter and with at least one further fold which is provided at an axial interval from the two other folds and is smaller than the shaft side fold in diameter.

  • Patent number: 4877339
Abstract: The invention relates to bearing support of a throttle valve shaft in the housing of an exhaust gas line in which the shaft is rotatably supported on both sides in a bearing sleeve element constructed cup-shaped. The cups themselves are retained by spring force against the housing extending correspondingly conically within these areas. In order to keep small the actuating forces necessary for the rotation of the throttle valve shaft, each bearing sleeve element is retained by itself against the housing by means of a spring supported at the housing and the securing of the shaft against any axial displacement takes place by a separate axial bearing.

  • Patent number: 4875338
Abstract: A brake unit having a hydraulic brake booster and twin master cylinders in a common housing. The brake booster comprises a drive cylinder between the master cylinders which can be subjected to the outlet pressure of a brake valve of the brake booster which supplies an outlet pressure proportional to the pedal travel. A compensating cylinder, which jointly executes the strokes of the drive-cylinder piston and can likewise be subjected to the outlet pressure of the brake valve transmits the actuating forces generated by the drive cylinder to the pistons of the master cylinders via a rocker articulated pivotably on the compensating piston. The effective piston surface of the compensating cylinder is somewhat larger than that of the drive piston.

  • Patent number: 4872525
Abstract: In the operation of a drive system for a motor vehicle comprising means for permanently driving a first pair of wheels and automatically operable means for selectively driving a second pair of wheels in dependence on the slip of the first pair of wheels, a frequent change between a four-wheel drive mode and a two-wheel drive mode for measuring purposes and for speed compariosn should not be required and this should be achieved with structurally simple means. To that end two sensors are respectively associated with the two permanently driven wheels and are operable to generate speed signals representing the speeds of said two wheels and to deliver said signals to a computer, which derives an actual speed difference signal from said speed signals and in which respective characteristic speed differences, which are specific to the vehicle, are stored for the two-wheel drive mode and for the four-wheel drive mode.

  • Patent number: 4872489
Abstract: In order to provide in a liquid-containing liquid friction coupling an air-filled space having a predetermined volume in a process which requires a minimum of manipulation and can be carried out in a short time, equal quantities of air are forced into the liquid-containing liquid friction coupling, on the one hand, and into a pressure-tight reference vessel which contains an air-filled space having the desired volume, on the other hand, the pressure difference between the reference vessel and the liquid friction coupling is then measured, and the pressures are balanced in that liquid is added to or removed from the liquid friction coupling.

  • Patent number: 4869480
Abstract: A stabilizer, formed by a torsion bar and stabilizer bar member's arranged at the end of the torsion bar, is designed in such a way that it is possible to dispense with the use of appropriate connection linkages for the articulation of the bar members on a vehicle part, which can usually only be accomplished indirectly. For this purpose, the stabilizer bar members are in each case equipped with a member end piece which is bent off elastically compliantly and can be fitted moveably on the corresponding vehicle part.

  • Patent number: 4869176
Abstract: The invention relates to an omnibus track guidable vehicle for special roads which vehicle can also travel with free manual steering on normal roads. To make the trailing axle roll along the special road, which defines the track, with correct tracking and without contact, the trailing vehicle axle is provided with an elastokinematic self-steering system. Articulation of the axle body of this vehicle axle in the transverse direction is in fact made so that the axle body is transversely slidable out of the central position by approximately .+-.0.8 to 1.2% of the vehicle width with increasing force, limited as a function of the transverse force.

  • Patent number: 4868882
Abstract: A loudspeaker is disclosed with a diaphragm and an annular moving coil fastened to the diaphragm. An annular permanent-magnet system is arranged concentrically relative to the moving coil and is fastened to a support. To obtain a high-power and extremely slim system, the moving coil surrounds the permanent-magnet system with only a small air gap and, on its outer surface, carries a thin-walled annular core of amorphous metal. The permanent-magnet system consists of two permanent-magnet rings spaced from one another by means of a soft-mangetic annular intermediate disc and having like poles facing one another.
