  • Patent number: 5994692
Abstract: A scanning grating is provided in a photo-electric position measuring system and the scanning grating includes several grating areas. Each one of these grating areas has a transverse grating with a graduation period. The transverse gratings of the grating areas are disposed offset by TT/4 perpendicularly to the measuring direction, i.e., in the Y direction, with respect to each other. The partial light beams diffracted at the scanning grating in the +1st and -1st order lead to an intensity modulation at a defined scanning distance Z1. An amplitude grating is provided at the location of this intensity modulation, so that by means of downstream disposed photo-detectors a scanning signal is generated by the +1st diffraction order and a scanning signal, which is phase-shifted by 180.degree. with respect to the first, is generated by the -1st diffraction order.

  • Patent number: 5984564
Abstract: An adapter for the coupling of two shaft ends in a defined angular orientation with respect to the longitudinal shaft axes. The adapter is mounted in a defined angular orientation on a first shaft, and on the side associated with a second shaft it has a receptacle for receiving the second shaft. The second shaft has an end that is partially flattened The receptacle is surrounded by a flange in one partial segment of which is at least one projection having inclined surfaces of such dimensions, that the projection fits interlockingly into the flattened part of the second shaft upon reaching the desired angular orientation of the two shafts. The adapter according to the invention is particularly suited for the connection of the shaft of a drive unit with the shaft of an rotary encoder.

  • Patent number: 5975746
Abstract: The invention pertains to a process for monitoring bar cutoff on CNC-controlled automatic bar lathes having a main spindle (3), an auxiliary spindle (6) and a pull-away carriage (WS3). In cutting-off operations it is necessary to monitor whether the cutting-off operation has cleanly severed the workpiece from the unmachined part. This control prevents machine damage that could arise as a result of imperfectly severed workpieces. The invention provides that after the cutting-off operation is completed, the pull-away carriage is started in the direction of a predetermined control path. In the time the pull-away carriage moves along the control path, the contour variation is monitored and compared with a value for contour variation that was defined in no-load operation, i.e. without a workpiece. If upon comparison the contour variation exceeds a predetermine threshold of difference, i.e.

  • Patent number: 5966990
Abstract: A shifting arrangement for a manual transmission having several forward gears and at least one reverse gear has a shift rotor that is rotated to shift the transmission gears. For this purpose, the shift rotor is connected by way of a cable pull with a shift lever. By moving the shift lever forward or backward from a neutral position, the shift rotor is rotated by way of a step-by-step system. In order to ensure a secure shifting of the reverse gear with a clear assignment for the driver and a protection against an unintended shifting, the reverse gear is operated by moving the shift lever in a second channel which is separate from the forward-gear shifting channel. For this purpose, the shift lever is connected by way of a second cable pull with a preselection shaft. By rotating the preselection shaft, coupling elements can be adjusted between the shift forks and the shift rotor irrespective of their shifting position.
