  • Patent number: 5964127
Abstract: For the most distinctive technical application purposes and particularly for forming tubular hollow bodies which require a structural bulge, for instance for employment in heat exchangers where a stronger turbulence of the heat exchanger mediums and with it an improved heat exchange is achieved through structural bulges on the exchanger tube. The manufacture such tubular hollow bodies with structural bulges by means of mechanical arrangements are extremely labor intensive and therefore costly. According to the invention, a magnetic impulse provides a hollow body (2) with the desired structural bulges (7) which correspond to a support core in a shrinking process, or by an expansion process when the support core is removed. The hollow body (2) to be formed is preferably tubular.

  • Patent number: 5963330
Abstract: An optical position measuring device, in particular for a drive for precise positioning, is recited, which comprises two drive units which are movable in respect to each other, wherein one of the two drive units has a graduation as an integral component. The latter can be scanned by a scanning unit connected with the other drive unit for generating position-dependent output signals. The graduation is directly or indirectly disposed on a level surface of the drive unit, from which a distance between the two drive units is created in such a way that by the cooperation of the two drive units the generation of a defined relative movement between the two drive units is possible.

  • Patent number: 5957102
Abstract: An intake system for an internal-combustion engine has an intake pipe with a throttle device, an air flow or air mass sensor and a filter device. In order to improve the quality of the measuring signal of the air flow or air mass sensor and to prevent subsequent signal corrections, a Helmholtz resonator is coupled to the intake pipe in the proximity of the air flow or air mass sensor which is tuned to the resonance frequency occurring during the operation of the internal-combustion engine. By coupling the Helmholtz resonator in the area of the air flow or air mass sensor, fluctuations of the air flow are smoothed in this area.

  • Patent number: 5957511
Abstract: A closure for a passenger car cover which is stretched against a stationary frame of a vehicle body, comprises a housing which is arranged on the top side and has an operating element and comprises a swivellable locking hook which interacts with a connecting link mounted on the frame. In its locked position, while having an inconspicuous appearance, the lock does not project with respect to the adjoining top contour in the direction of the passenger compartment. During the opening operation, the operating element takes up a position advantageous for gripping by a user. In the locked position of the lock, a first and a second operating element are arranged in a sunk manner in a recess of the top frame. The two operating elements interact such that the second operating element will be moved into a lowered gripping position only after the operation of the first operating element.

  • Patent number: 5954367
Abstract: A fuel tank for vehicles, particularly passenger cars, has a filler neck which, in the area of a connection to the fuel tank, is guided around the upper edge of an adjoining body part or chassis part and penetrates a lateral fuel tank wall, a partial area of the filler neck projecting into the fuel tank interior. So that the maximal filling level of the fuel tank can be lowered under the plane A--A of the adjoining body part or chassis part, and therefore a sufficient expansion volume is ensured, it is provided that the end of the filler neck which projects into the tank interior and a filling ventilation extend below the level A--A defined by the upper edge of the body part or the chassis part, the maximal filling level H being determinable by the highest point of the filling ventilation situated in the tank interior.

  • Patent number: 5954251
Abstract: A mounting device for roof racks on motor vehicles, especially automobiles, includes mounting elements located in longitudinal roof channels in which the endwise supporting parts of the roof racks can be secured. Each mounting element is formed by a base plate that rests on the bottom of the roof channel and is fastened thereto, on which plate at least one threaded section is formed for screwing in a mounting bolt for the supporting part. In order for high roof loads to be carried by the mounting device and readily conducted into the fixed body, on the underside of an upright rib of the supporting part, at least one supporting surface is provided that forms a sloping plane relative to the screwing direction in the transverse direction of the vehicle. The supporting surface abuts a corresponding supporting surface of the base plate that extends in the same direction and projects upward.

  • Patent number: 5951801
Abstract: The method for joining a metal foil with a synthetic material foil comprises unwinding both materials from a supply roll each, and subjecting the synthetics foil, prior to the application of an adhesive, to a corona discharge on a narrow border region. The metal foil and the synthetic material foil are then pressed together and irradiated by ultraviolet radiation causing polymerization of the adhesive. The composite foil material thus obtained is transferred to a further processing station. There the dental matrix can be punched out of such a composite sheet material, having a high tensile strength, whose metal portion can easily be inserted between two adjacent teeth whereas the transparent synthetic material part allows light curing of the dental filling material.

  • Patent number: 5950583
Abstract: An internal-combustion engine valve gear has at least two adjacent stroke transmitting elements which, by way of a hydraulically displaceable coupling element, in a coupled position can be displaced with respect to one another and, in the uncoupled position, can be displaced independently of one another. The stroke transmitting elements interact with the cam of a camshaft having different cam paths which interact with different stroke courses with the stroke transmitting elements. In order to avoid undefined switching conditions in the operation of the internal-combustion engine and, during each switching operation have sufficient time for the displacement of the coupling element, this coupling element interacts with a locking element which locks and unlocks the coupling element as a function of the cam path.

  • Patent number: 5950404
Abstract: An apparatus for packing articles contains successively in a conveying direction a feed station, where the articles to be packed are fed into the installation, a station for opening the pack and a station for sealing the filled pack. The two stations, optionally also a compressing station, are successively located on rails, to which they can be fixed in random positions. Consequently it is possible to modify the mutual spacings of the stations and the absolute positions of the stations. This makes it possible to adapt the apparatus to different pack sizes, different articles to be packed and further differing circumstances, whilst still allowing short conveying paths.

  • Patent number: 5944377
Abstract: A floor assembly for a passenger car includes a double-walled floor provided with local reinforcements between laterally external side members and a center tunnel. To reduce the cost of manufacturing and assembly of the floor assembly, the double-walled floor on the driver and passenger sides is formed by at least one hollow member manufactured by the internal high-pressure shaping method. The respective hollow members abut the associated laterally external side member and the center tunnel and are permanently connected therewith. The reinforcements are formed by wall sections of the respective hollow body that are adjacent to one another areawise and are opposite one another.
