  • Patent number: 6113864
Abstract: A combination of an adsorbent with a catalyst for internal combustion engines. The adsorbent-catalyst combination is built up in two or more alternating layers of zones, which are coated to be adsorbing, and zones, which are coated to have catalytic activity, and are connected in series in relation to the flow of exhaust gas. The zones having adsorbing activity are to be designed thermodynamically so that they have a lesser heat transfer than the zones having catalytic activity, so that the zones having catalytic activity have a higher support temperature than the upstream zones having adsorbing activity.

  • Patent number: 6106004
Abstract: A side impact protection device for an occupant of a vehicle includes an air bag which is divided by an interior partition into two chambers situated above one another. The lower chamber interacts with a gas generator. A primary opening having a relatively large cross-section is formed at the partition. So that an optimal functioning of both chambers of the air bag is always ensured during the inflation, at least one other opening with a relatively small cross-section is provided on the partition next to the primary opening situated outside the radiation area of the gas generator. The other opening extends at a distance to the primary opening and acts as a pressure relief valve when the lower chamber of the air bag is inflated.

  • Patent number: 6104427
Abstract: A plurality of separate conveyings over each of which a single line camera is mounted and connected to a sensor processor, which itself is connected to a fast data network with a plurality of processing terminals. Because of the high resolution (up to 7000 picture elements per line) and a line scanning frequency of the order of up to 6000 hertz very large amounts of data are received, so in the preferred embodiment a high capacity data network is used, for example a 100 Mbit ethernet with a switching hub.

  • Patent number: 6095593
Abstract: An energy-absorbing covering for a body column of a motor vehicle includes on an area situated in the occupant compartment a covering part and an energy-absorbing element, which is arranged between the body column and the covering part. The energy-absorbing element is formed by a hollow-space-bounding support made of sheet metal. So that a lateral bending-away of the energy-absorbing element is avoided even if the energy-absorbing element is acted upon in an unfavorable direction, while the energy-absorbing covering has a construction which is easy to mount, and, in addition, rattling noises in the driving operation are avoided, it is provided that the energy-absorbing element is connected on the side facing the body column at least in areas with a profiled holding rail which, in sections, rests on the body column and is locally fixedly connected with it. The covering part, which is arranged at a distance in front of the energy-absorbing element, is fastened locally to the holding rail or to the body column.

  • Patent number: 6097190
Abstract: A method for locating and identifying search objects concealed in the gro under a ground surface is described. Preferred search objects are plastic mines, which inter alia contain a plastic body and at least one metallic part, particularly an igniter. Firstly the position of the metallic part is established, preferably with an eddy current probe. Then a search area surrounding the part is investigated by means of a ground probe, which produces a ground signal indicating the presence of ground material. The ground signal is evaluated in position discriminating manner. Preferably the ground probe and metal probe are identical, which is e.g. made possible by an operation of the eddy current probe with at least three different frequencies and a suitable signal evaluation. Prior to the investigation of the search area the electrical conductivity and/or magnetizability of the ground can be increased by impregnating with a liquid, which can contain salt water and/or magnetizable particles.
