  • Patent number: 5168731
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for generating a foam from a preheated dye solution and subsequently applying the foam to continuous strands of yarn wherein the foam is driven by a pressure differential. The apparatus has a foaming pan for producing the foam from the dye solution and a gas. The pan opens into a foam transmission chamber at or near ambient pressure which fluid communicates with an evacuated spent foam discharge chamber across an open interface. The yarn is dyed by conveying it through the open interface and contacting it with the foam which is drawn across the open interface in a flow path perpendicular to the yarn by the pressure differential between the foam transmission and discharge chambers.

  • Patent number: 5169566
Abstract: Novel cementitious contaminant barriers are formed by positioning a hydraulic cement composition into a predetermined configuration and then hydrating the cement composition. The contaminant barriers of the present invention include at least one liquid, gas, or ion getter capable of binding with or absorbing liquids, ions, or gases which may penetrate the barrier. The contaminant barriers of the present invention may be engineered to include mixtures of different getters, single and multiple layers of different getters, multiple layers of cement and getters, and a host of different getter, cement, mixture, and layer combinations.Novel waste containers are advantageously prepared utilizing contaminant barriers within the scope of the present invention. The waste containers may be prepared by surrounding waste material with at least one getter and with a powdered hydraulic cement composition and then compressing the cement and getter around the waste material.

  • Patent number: 5170369
Abstract: An improved dynamic digital IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) audio filter and method provides a remedy for the major problems in state of the art digital IIR filtering and dynamic digital filtering for audio. In particular, the required multiplier coefficient size is reduced, such that 16 bit coefficients are adequate for good frequency resolution. In addition, the data size of the multiplier is also reduced, to be similar to the input and output data resolution without inferior noise performance. Furthermore, the structure is easily modified to allow the fixing of the DC (Direct Current) gain of the IIR filter to unity regardless of coefficient choice, eliminating any problems with filter dynamic range at low frequency passbands. Additionally, a dynamic filter structure allows logarithmic filter sweeps and compresses the coefficients further down to as few as 8 bits with adequate resolution for audio throughout the band.
