Abstract: In a non-slip rectilinear wiredrawing machine with tangentially uncoiling pstans, each capstan is composed of two concentric and coaxial parts, the first of which driven by a motor and comprising the typical capstan pulling face, the second part a freely-revolving ring affording a run-out from which the wire is drawn through a die by and onto a successive capstan; the speed of the individual capstans is synchronized by a device capable of monitoring both the angular movement of the shaft driving the first part of the capstan and the angular movement of the ring, detecting any difference between the two, and correcting the angular velocity of the shaft accordingly.

Abstract: As-spun fibers from certain spinnable dopes of poly-p-phenylenebenzobisthiazole, poly-p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole, or poly-2,5-benzoxazole and thermoplastic polymers in certain mixed solvents are provided.
Abstract: A floating, self-centering impeller for a turbine pump assembly has a plurality of "D-shaped" recesses arranged in one or more circumferential rows on its end surfaces to induce pressurized film between its end surfaces and adjacent thrust surfaces of side plates to prevent galling or seizing of the pump as the impeller is rotated. A corresponding array of such "D-shaped" recesses may be provided on the opposing surfaces of the side plates.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved reverse osmosis membrane that shows surprisingly improved solute rejection and permeation properties. The membrane includes a separating layer of a polyamideurethane formed in situ by reaction of a haloformyloxy-substituted acyl halide with a diamine-treated substrate.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for chlorinating, brominating and/or iodinating an organic substrate containing both a single acidic hydrogen atom and at least one electron withdrawing group attached to the same carbon atom. The process replaces the single acidic hydrogen with chlorine, bromine and/or iodine and involves reacting the substrate in solution with a halogenating agent (e.g., a perhalomethane wherein the halogen substituents are I, Br and/or Cl, a trihaloacetic acid ester wherein the halogen substituents are Br and/or Cl, or a perfluoroalkyl halide wherein the halide is I, Br and/or Cl) in the presence of (i) a phase transfer catalyst of the formula R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 R.sup.4 LJ where L is selected from the group consisting of phosphorus and nitrogen, where J is an inorganic anion other than fluoride, and where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention an improved tablet composition for drugs or active ingredients prone to poor tabletting properties is disclosed. The improved composition comprises a premixture, consisting essentially of between about 85 and 99.9 percent by weight of the active ingredient and between about 0.1 and 15 percent by weight of citric acid, and one or more other formulation ingredients added to premixture. The present invention also involves the process for making such compositions and products therefrom.

Abstract: A continuous catalyzed vapor phase process for the production of dimeric cyclic esters which comprises converting the corresponding alpha-hydroxy-carboxylic acid or ester in the vapor phase over a solid catalyst, such as a silica-alumina, preferably a silica-alumina having a high silica content, in the presence of a carrier of gas.
Abstract: Processes are described for recovering lactic acid from impure lactide and the residue produced in the depolymerization of polylactic acid to lactide. Lactic acid is recovered from the impure lactide by a dual solvent extraction process and, from the polylactic acid residue by hydrolysis. The lactic acid recovered from the impure lactide and the depolymerization residue is recycled to provide for a high yield lactide process.
Abstract: A single layer mattress cushion formed of a common material throughout and having three distinct convoluted zones arranged along its length. The first zone is specifically configured for supporting the shoulder and head area of a person while the middle zone is specifically formed for supporting the torso area of a person and the third zone is specifically formed for supporting the feet and lower leg portion of a person. Each of the cushion's three separate sleep areas has a different compression modulus such that the middle zone provides a maximum dual level peak support for the torso area while the first zone section provides a mid-range support function to the head and shoulders of the person and the third zone section provides light and well ventilated support for the legs and feet of the user.
Abstract: The present invention relates to electrical connectors with a ground structure for impedance and cross talk control between signal carrying conductors.
Abstract: A reactive oligoimide, which may serve as an adhesive for bonding at least one layer or film to another layer, preferably a flexible metallic layer to a flexible layer of a polyimide, in order to form a flexible multilayer metal-clad laminate.
Abstract: A photosensitive elastomeric composition and process of using the composition to prepare flexographic printing plates having substantially improved solvent resistance are described.
Abstract: The present invention relates to hold-downs for securing components to circuit assemblies and more particularly to hold-down terminals for securing connectors to printed circuit boards.
