Abstract: Optical elements comprising noncentrosymmetric crystalline organic compounds are provided, that are capable of second harmonic generation. The invention further provides for nonlinear optical devices and modulators incorporating the optical elements.
Abstract: A rectangular microwave resonant cavity applicator comprising two spaced-apart, cavity-containing sections is disclosed for heating a product web. Each section has a planar peripheral lip which faces the other and the sections are spaced apart by a distance "d". The lips have arrays of ferrite segments mounted on their surfaces which serve to limit radiation of microwave energy from the open space between the sections, through which the product web passes.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a two-sided magneto-optical recording disk having reduced birefringence comprising a pair of single-sided magneto-optical recording disks, the entire recording sides of which are adhered together by means of a continuous layer of polymeric adhesive. An external mechanical laminating pressure in a vacuum is applied to the non-information areas of the a magneto-optical disk.
Abstract: A process is provided for preparing isoprenoid cyclopropane 1,1-dicarboxylates and derivatives thereof including the corresponding monocarboxylate, monocarboxylic acid and alcohol derivatives thereof, all of which are useful in preparing squalene synthetase inhibitors which inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis, and also useful in preparing pyrethrin insecticides.
Abstract: A compound of the formula ##STR1## (symbols defined in the specification), its 3,4-dihydropyrimidine tautomer form and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have calcium entry blocking activity. A process of preparation, pharmaceutical composition and method of using the compound to reduce blood pressure are also provided.
Abstract: An improved curing agent for use in coatings, laminates, moldings, castings and adhesives comprising the use of an amine-boron adduct component along with anhydride and epoxy component mixtures. Also provided is an improved process for the preparation of tertiary amine borane curing agents.
Abstract: This invention concerns the use of M[BR.sub.3 H].sub.y reagents for activating or regenerating deactivated or degraded Ni catalyst used in Ni-catalyzed alkene hydrocyanation processes in the presence of an organic phosphorus compound, where M is an electropositive ion excluding nickel, such as, but not limited to, the Group 1A cations, the Group IIA cations, the lanthanide cations and the quaternary ammoniums and R is an organic radical of up to 18 carbon atoms, and where y is equal to the net charge of the cation. The invention also concerns a process for activation or regeneration of Ni-catalysts using MH and a catalytic amount of BR.sub.3.

Abstract: Bag opening device for supermarket check-out counters incorporating bag dispensing machines, comprising a pair of pliers mounted on a pair of guides capable of a reciprocating horizontal motion. The pliers grasp and pull apart the two opposite sides of a bag fed by feeding belts. Each pliers (1, 2) consists of a pair of jaws (9, 9' and 11, 11') meshing with each other by means of a pair of toothed wheels (13, 13' and 14, 14') and pushed towards each other by a compression spring (16, 17) placed between two of their ends. One of the ends of each pliers is provided with a roller (18, 19) which, by interacting with a suitable opening device, counteracts the force of the compression springs (16, 17) thereby opening the jaws (9, 9' and 11, 11') of each pliers (1, 2).
Abstract: A digital sampling instrument is disclosed. The instrument provides the capability of accessing and outputting stored digital data within a single clock cycle. The instrument also provides improved volume scaling for sound generation and further eliminates redundant loading of a particular sound into a sound memory.
