Abstract: A method for providing a controlled atmosphere in a food storage facility, which comprises:a) feeding a portion of an atmosphere from a food storage facility, containing carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen, to a feed side of a membrane having a higher permeability to carbon dioxide than to nitrogen,b) recycling the carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen not permeating the membrane back to the storage facility, and venting the carbon dioxide-enriched gas permeating the membrane to the atmosphere, andc) using a membrane-based system to maintain the required atmospheric composition and pressure in the food storage facility.

Abstract: Two peptides, P6 and P7, having the amino acid sequence APGDEPAPPY and AGATAEETRY have been used to obtain antibodies made against them, which antibodies specifically neutralize HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA polymerase. The present invention also contemplates a method of screening for inhibitors of HSV-1 and HSV-2 polymerase utilizing the antibodies.
Abstract: A method for improving the properties of a coated reinforced thermoplastic substrate which forms surface irregularities when cooled after being heated to elevated temperatures is disclosed. The method comprises coating the substrate with primer coating compositions, wet-on-wet, comprising first applying a rigid primer composition followed by applying a flexible primer composition, curing the composite primer coating and thereafter applying a topcoating. The coated substrates exhibit improved properties, especially distinctness of image (DOI).
Abstract: Label holders used for closing and sealing bags have the disadvantage of having to be individualized (numbered) since one type of violation would be destroying the label holder to withdraw the security seal intact and then substituting it with a new label holder and re-using the seal. The label holder of this invention has two protuberances formed with rectangular openings on one portion thereof, which pass through two corresponding openings in the other portion when the label holder is closed. Two stops, one on each side of the strip of the outer surface between the two corresponding openings are provided. The security seal has a capsule and a lock interconnected by a thread, which in the sealed configuration are separated by the first protuberance, a part of the lock passing through the opening in such protuberance and a head of the lock being locked within the capsule. The part of the lock is connected to the head by weakenings.

Abstract: A parallel distributed processing network, previously trained to simulate a process, is responsive to input activations A to produce outputs Y. The activations are representative of the input parameters P of the process and the outputs are representative of the characteristics C of the product of the process. A set of goal signals G corresponding to the desired physical characteristics D of the product are produced and used to generate a signal representative of the error E between the goal signals G and the outputs Y of the network. The values of the updated inputs A.sub.U of the network that are needed to drive the error E to a predetermined minimum are determined, and the actual physical input parameters P of the process changed to correspond to the updated inputs values A.sub.U producing the minimum error. The present invention can be used in both a batch initialization situation and/or in an on-going process control situation.

Abstract: Domestic hot water heating control circuit is used in conjunction with a furnace control unit of a hot air furnace system which utilizes a hot water heat exchanger. The hot water control circuit has a diverter valve which is electrically connected to a thermostat which monitors a hot water tank and a fan control circuit for controlling the operation of a comfort fan for the hot air system integrated with the furnace control system. The diverter valve controls the circulation of heated water between the heat exchanger of the furnace and the hot water tank. When the hot water tank thermostat calls for heat, the diverter valve switches a relay to start the furnace and to direct heated water from the heat exchanger of the furnace to the heating coil of the hot water tank. The fan control circuit then operates to shut "off" the comfort fan to prevent cold air from being supplied to the living space in the event that the space thermostat calls for heat.
Abstract: A catalyst and process for preparing it and its use in polymerizing tetrahydrofuran to produce polytetramethylene ether glycol ether are disclosed. The catalyst is a blend of a fluorinated resin containing sulfonic acid groups and a fluorinated resin containing carboxylic acid groups. The catalyst is partially dried to contain from 1,000 to 2,000 ppm water, so that when it is used to polymerize tetrahydrofuran, the product polytetramethylene ether glycol will have a number average molecular weight of from 250 to 4,000.
