Abstract: A stable waterborne high solids metallic flake pigment dispersion containing an aqueous carrier, film forming binder and metallic flake pigment and having a solids content of about 40-90% by weight; wherein the film forming polymer is a phosphated acrylic polymer neutralized with ammonia or a primary, secondary or tertiary amine and contains metallic flake pigments in a pigment to binder weight ratio of about 30/100-1000/100 and is non-reactive with the binder and the dispersion has a pH of about 7-9.
Abstract: Triazinic compounds of general formula (I): ##STR1## obtained by the reaction of one mole of a halide of cyanuric acid with two oles of an amine, and following reaction of the so obtained intermediate with a polyamine. The compounds of general formula (I) find a use, in particular, as flame-retardant additives for polymers.

Abstract: An improved nucleic acid hybridization assay, relying on particle counting, is provided. Presence and quantity of target nucleic acid is determined by detecting, upon hybridization, signals associated with particle aggregation or coincident signals from particles and reporters.
Abstract: Novel polyimide based films are disclosed that are resistant to arc tracking and that include aromatic dianhydrides together with aromatic diamines and aliphatic diamines. The compositions contain from 5 to 20 percent by weight of the aliphatic diamine. These compositions maximize the thermal aging capability of the polyimide. The compositions are useful as films and laminates for wire and cable.
Abstract: A high-boiling hydrochlorofluorofluorocarbon (HCFC) solvent comprising a blend of for every 100 parts by weight of a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (e.g., 1,1,1-trifluorodichloroethane or 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane) from about 25 to about 400 parts by weight of a selected organic solvent (e.g., dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, or mixture of dimethyladipate, dimethylglutarate, and dimethylsuccinate). Such solvents are useful in liquid/vapor phase cleaning applications even at elevated temperatures above the boiling temperature predicted by Raoult's law.

Abstract: A coal substitute product and process for producing it from by-products formed in the production of acetylene from natural gas is disclosed. The first by-product is an aqueous slurry of soot which is mixed with the second by-product, an acetylene polymer. After mixing the material is filtered to produce a filter cake which is processed into chunks similar to coal in appearance, handling qualities and burning characteristics. Alternatively another carbonaceous tarry substance such as an asphaltenes or acryloid polymer waste can be substituted for the acetylene polymer.
Abstract: Batts and filled articles of polyester fiberfill of round peripheral cross-section, but containing voids arranged peripherally around an axial void, and preferably seven such voids in a hexagonal packing arrangement.
Abstract: Improved processes for acid-catalyzed oligomerization of olefins and alkylation of toluene are disclosed using a catalyst blend of at least one perfluorinated ion-exchange polymer containing sulfonic acid groups and at least one polymer diluent in a nonpolar reaction mixture.
Abstract: A subsurface well pump is provided which is resitant to vapor locking. The pump is a reciprocating sucker rod pump which has a top inlet valve which comprises one or more hinged flapper valves.
Abstract: A coupled quantum well electro-optical modulator, whose semiconductor structure is composed of one or of a plurality of successions formed by two layers capable of forming quantum wells, of a barrier layer which separates the two layers and of an intrinsic layer which separates the succession from other possible successions, where in presence of an electric field the absorption threshold of the light radiation shifts towards shorter wavelengths.

Abstract: Thermoformed trays prepared from a blend of 90 to 99.9 percent of polyethylene terephthalate resin, a small amount of sodium ion, and a small amount of wax exhibit effective crystallization rates and improved trimming and stacking properties.
Abstract: Improved polymeric membranes and their method of manufacture are disclosed. The improved membranes are produced by increasing the draw ratio employed during the manufacture of the membrane. The membranes show at least substantially constant or increased selectivity and mechanical properties as the draw ratio is increased.
Abstract: Hypotensive activity is exhibited by new phosphonate substituted amino or imino acids of the formula ##STR1## isomeric mixtures thereof and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein:X is an imino or amino acid of the formula ##STR2##
Abstract: Zeromethine blue spectral sensitizing dyes have found utility in emulsions made without tabular grains. These emulsions are particularly useful for exposure to a light source rich in blue emission and are especially useful in radiographic elements designed for exposure to intensifying screens having such emission.

Abstract: A device for identifying and sorting objects includes a low-friction surface for supporting parcels to be identified and sorted, each provided with a bar code on at least one side thereof, a dragging mechanism capable of conveying parcels from a staging area to a sorting area via a readout station which identifies each parcel by means of its bar code, and a plurality of trap doors, responsive to the readout station and located at predetermined positions on the low-friction surface, through which the identified parcels are selectively discharged and thereby routed to a corresponding plurality of intermediate or final destinations. The dragging mechanism comprises a pair of pulleys between which a flexible cable is operatively engaged which in turn pulls a plurality of drag arms over the low-friction surface.

Abstract: The method described characterizes each DNA segment to be mapped by cleaving it to produce DNA fragments which are then end labeled with a reporter(s) specific to the end nucleotides of each fragment. The labeled fragments are again cleaved to produce short fragments which are separated according to size. The short fragments are analyzed as to report identify and size which is indicative of the character of each fragment. By derivatizing the cleaved ends of the primary cleaved fragments, the labeling may be delayed until the second cleavage. Prior to the labeling the derivatized fragments, all underivatized fragments are removed, the derivatized fragments being immobilized.
